There is a reason why David had to team up with his old buddies Richard, Nick and Jon Carin even for his solo album projects. The magic of the Pink Floyd sound is there because of the ingredients which make up Pink Floyd....even when Dave does solo albums. The sound in this performance is no where close to the REAL sound we are all used to listening...even on the Dave's solo projects. This tells so much about that emotion a musician brings to a composition...& not just the technical ability.

im 23. have spent half of my life listening to music and discographies.
i have heard every one from avril lavigne to markita and debbie more,
justine beiber to johny cash, johana bro.s to scorpions, almost everything all the bands and artists. But this is the best live performance i ever ever saw. respect and love for david gilmour and his team. i dont hate the new age techno music, i just love the old school artists too much to be able to have time for criticizing the new pop and hip hop..
@11crespo Yes, I think it`s Michael Kamen. He leaded the Orchestra in 1979 at the Recording of The Wall Album and in 1994 at the Division Bell Album too.
the silence between the notes is the dimension of bliss. & you can hear it if you know how...Pink Floyd in all its glory triggered people into...remembering... no matter how they played it, you felt it to yer very marrow, then, and still can...every note & all the silences therein, are golden, forever cosmic & Earth-bound, simultaneously....
has anyone ever heard live Pink Floyd music where either Waters or Gilmour messed up the lyrics?? It's had to have happened...but nothing I've heard so far, from bootlegs, to anything on here, has ever shown me that they are human...lol....to be able to remember every single lyric to every piece of music....amazing.
Life is not too shabby for David Gilmour...a whole ensemble of musicians and singers behind him and the adoring crowd in front (not to mention the beautiful cellist and the looks she gives him)....but it is all richly deserved....he has brought so much inspiration, originality, joy and beauty to our lives! My first album was Piper at the gates of Dawn and 40 years later I still stand in awe of Pink Floyd! The British Isles have given birth to so many great bands; Genesis, Zep, the Beatles, Yes..
@fLpzZy lmao, he did was a genius, i was too depressed with the people I love the most calling me crazy for no reason at all, just like me talking all stupidly lol
I have listened to this version at least a few times a month since I bought the DVD, and be damned if it doesnt still give me chills and bring a tear to my eye sometimes. When the chello kicks in it is almost spirtual to me. Such an amazing combination of sounds its like heaven to the senses. :)
@NStanceski What way did she die? I am not !00% sure. But dead she is. Dave Gilmours About Face album, from 1984 is brilliant. He plays with The London Philharmonic, and there is an acoustic guitar solo which is heavenly.
@cdickenson64 Polly Samsons is alive and well, though i dont know her. She has, as you say a new book. Mr Gilmore had another wife, Ginger in the 70s. She had a boyfriend at the time, but Dave got to her,... well if I was a Girl.....!
@1965guitarboy David Gilmour has written some great songs, but I get annoyed when i see him rip of other peoples songs. He is a friend of and past artistic callaborator of Pete Townshends, I bet him and pete dont speak now because of this blatant Plagarism.
@mrduffy1100 Yes in fact they did. David Gilmour and Polly Samson(David's wife) wrote it together. And as you know David Gilmour is the lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. And yes I agree it is a wonder track, as is most of Pink Floyd's music.
@cdickenson64 Thanks for that reply, someone leaving comments ( MCWOLFUS), says that the song was written by Styx,(never heard of them), Air Supply, and /or, Chris De Burg!!, I was getting confused. Chis de Burg wasn't in Pink Floyd was he? And.... 1965GUITARBOY comment says the song is about Mr Gilmours wife who died. Died??
@mrduffy1100 Styx was a band that hit the big time in the mid to late seventies.... Definitely not in the same league a Pink Floyd. Air Supply and Chris DeBurgh are just artist this McWolfus pull out his rear.... Mr DeBurgh was not in the Floyd. The song was about Davids life and some of the things he had to go through... written with Polly not about Polly who is still very much alive. Keep listening....
I wonder if the the track is for Chris de burgs rareties, and outakes, b sides kind of stuff. That is odd, I thought the track was from 'spanish train' or something. Well thanks for looking, its him alright, and its this song-different but this song.
@mcwolfus Where do you get a version from Chris DeBurgh? I have searched and found nothing that even resembles "High Hopes" unless you are mixing it up with "High on Emotion" and they are are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT songs and cannot be compared.
@mcwolfus WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! David Gilmore wrote the song and it was released on "The Division Bell" in 1994. He wrote the song with his wife Polly Samson... Twenty years after the 1974 "Release" of the Chris DeBurgh version... which I STILL find NOTHING on.
@cdickenson64 There you have it then, 1974 twenty years before Dave and Polly get their hands on it, and do a not such a bit cover, it does grow on you. But I have the same song by the great Mr de Burg, His version, Is obviously piano based. On of his first albums, and bonus track, keep looking for it. Got the right spelling?
@mcwolfus Looked at his first five albums... Not even one song that comes close in name... Google "High Hopes" by Pink Floyd and it will say it was written by David Gilmour and Polly Samson... I even checked it on my album... says the same thing.
@mcwolfus Which album? Which year? Any time before 1994? Before the composer of this song released it?? HMMM?? I see nothing on all of Air Supply's albums that indicate a cover of David Gilmour's High Hopes.
@cdickenson64 Well before 1994, early 80s, I have another version, by Air Supply, I am pretty sure now- (the other thought i had was Styx), And you say that Gilmour/Samson wrote it! Well this is tagged on the end of an AS album, which one though?
@cdickenson64 Well before 1994, early 80s, I have another version, by Air Supply, I am pretty sure now- (the other thought i had was Styx), And you say that Gilmour/Samson wrote it! Well this is tagged on the end of an AS album, which one though? I may know how to solve this mystery.
@mcwolfus What is the album name? What is name of the song? If you are right, which you're NOT, the name of the song MUST be different, cause there are no songs on the ENTIRE Air Supply list with the same name.
@cdickenson64 Nope, I am not wrong, this song was done by a memeber of Air Supply, give a moment I will positively identify it, or post the actual song downloaded from my tape. I do understand youre scepicism.
@mcwolfus YES YOU ARE WRONG!!!! Do yourself a favor and Google "High Hopes" Pink Floyd and see who wrote the song.... It will say that David Gilmour and Polly Samson wrote the song for "The Division Bell" released in 1994.
@mcwolfus Ok then find somebody who owns a copy of The Division Bell or buy a copy yourself.... Or maybe just look at it in the store... It will give the writers of the song on the album credits... Or are they lying and YOU are the only one on the ENTIRE world that knows the real truth???
@cdickenson64 What I am saying is that Mr Gilmour has ripped off an old song, and I shall prove it. I dont care what is written down as a song writing credit on an album cover, thats not it.
@mcwolfus I checked my Division Bell album cover, and youre right! The Gilmours did write High Hopes. If had only reached over onto my CDs shelf a month ago, all the Comments and the Emails to rendom songwriters (who was it)? could have been avoided. Youre manhood is now restored, and I can only apologise for my lazyness,-(and before you say it, Iam a sad bastard etc), but I must now busy
myself by attempting to prove that the Pope and Britney Spears are the same person .LOVL
@mcwolfus Now the Britney Spears ? Pope thing... I will not argue with you on that cause you are more than likely right. And I won't fault you for overlooking the album cover. It is fun to sometimes go back and forth on stuff like that. Have a good life and maybe we will butt heads again sometime. Smile ON! :-)
@cdickenson64 Thanks, I just couldn'd resist winding you up, I dont have this album, and Christ de Burg writing High Hopes? well!. the funniest bit was my Email address,-you must agree. Anyway, Gilmours solo stuff is brilliant in many places, and so is the Townshend solo efforts, though largely overlooked. The Stevie Nicks early stuff is good also, Buckinghams stuff I can take or leave. Laters
@mcwolfus Dave gilmours solo Albums are worth looking at, some real jems on them, Pete Townshend co-writes, and plays with Gilmour. Also there are some absolute gems on Petes solo work.
@1965guitarboy I didn't do anything, just trying to prove that Dave Gilmour and Polly perhaps did not write High Hopes after all. I will send you the proof, but i have decided not to post it here.
@mcwolfus I need proof of your claims. I can look at my CD of The Division Bell and at the song High Hopes and know that David Gilmour wrote it with Polly Samson. I have looked at every album by the bands you CLAIM originated the song and find nothing in ANY of their albums that even come close to this song. Now you are saying something by Styx is the same???? Off which album??? Come on, I need proof!!
@cdickenson64 No checked again, and I have Chris de burg doing this, or something very similar in 1974. The song is on a tape of a album but i dont have the name of the album. The song you merntion does sound familiar.
This is beautiful with the stand up bass and cello! great acoustic version.. you can never go wrong with some piano and cello thrown into a song that is already a masterpiece.
excelentes comentarios... pero tambien merece credito Michael Kamen (Q.E.P.D.) que esta en el piano... un talentosisimo director de orquesta.... de los mejores arreglistas para mi.
The AOL Sessions version of this classic Floyd song offer much better acoustics but this particular session in Dolby 7.1 from the original CD is incredible.
I know of no guitarists as passionate as David Gilmour, such an inspiration.

@weegrant007 What did he do?
1965guitarboy 1 year ago
@1965guitarboy I didn't do anything, just trying to prove that Dave Gilmour and Polly perhaps did not write High Hopes after all. I will send you the proof, but i have decided not to post it here.

@weegrant007 Get out of where? Where am i 'in' to get out of?
mcwolfus 1 year ago
@cdickenson64 There you have it then, 1974 twenty years before Dave and Polly get their hands on it, and do a not such a bit cover, it does grow on you. But I have the same song by the great Mr de Burg, His version, Is obviously piano based. On of his first albums, and bonus track, keep looking for it. Got the right spelling?
mcwolfus 1 year ago
@mcwolfus I need proof of your claims. I can look at my CD of The Division Bell and at the song High Hopes and know that David Gilmour wrote it with Polly Samson. I have looked at every album by the bands you CLAIM originated the song and find nothing in ANY of their albums that even come close to this song. Now you are saying something by Styx is the same???? Off which album??? Come on, I need proof!!
cdickenson64 1 year ago
@cdickenson64 No checked again, and I have Chris de burg doing this, or something very similar in 1974. The song is on a tape of a album but i dont have the name of the album. The song you merntion does sound familiar.

The AOL Sessions version of this classic Floyd song offer much better acoustics but this particular session in Dolby 7.1 from the original CD is incredible.
