I've read the Dalai Lama's autobiography and he talks about corruption and misrule in Tibet before the Chinese invasion. Human rights abuse at a time when international law had yet to codify human rights should not justify imperialism. Indeed, Mao was himself responsible for some of the greatest atrocities in human history. Would that have justified occupation of China?
Seventeen Point Agreement for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet, sealed in Beijing on 23 May 1951
Point 4: The central authorities will not alter the existing political system in Tibet. The central authorities also will not alter the established status, functions and powers of the Dalai Lama. Officials of various ranks shall hold office as usual.
they agreed to a system which they nowdays claim to "liberated" the people from
The 14th Dalai Lama said Saturday he will decide whether to be incarnated when he is "about 90" and that China should have no say in the matter.
If he is to be reincarnated, he will leave clear written instructions about the process, the Dalai Lama said in a statement after a meeting with leaders of the four Tibetan sects.
"Apart from the reincarnation recognized through such legitimate methods, no recognition or acceptance should be given to a candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including those in the People's Republic of China," he said.
The Dalai Lama has brought up the same issue of his reincarnation on many occasions in the last two years.
Each time he insisted on guiding the choice of his successor, though his assertions kept changing in form.
According to the Dalai Lama, his reincarnation could be chosen when he's still alive, or be stopped altogether. His reincarnation could be designated, or elected in a papal-style conclave, and could be a girl, inside or even outside China.
The issue has been brought up nearly every month since the Dalai Lama transferred his political role to Lobsang Sangay, the new prime minister of the "government-in-exile" in April.
On the latest occasion on Saturday, he said he will consult Buddhist scholars -- 14 years from now -- to evaluate whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue at all.
The reincarnation of Living Buddhas has always followed strict historical conventions and religious rituals, and all the Dalai Lamas have been approved by China's central regime since 1653.
Now the 14th Dalai Lama, eager to pass on his "Tibet independence" attempt, is ready to defy these rituals.
Obviously, he's facing the biggest challenge: whether he is truly willing to retire from politics, most probably into obscurity in Dharamsala, the northern Indian town where his "government-in-exile" is based.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and published author of several books preaching for "Tibet independence" and reviling China's ruling Communist Party, is apparently reluctant to retire from politics and the spotlight -- though the high monk should know what truly matters for a Buddhist.
Over the decades since he fled China in 1959, the Dalai Lama has come to enjoy his role as a political monk, traveling across the globe, picking up his accolades and selling his independence claim.
Like a has-been star, he fears the loss of popularity, a personal loss that does no harm to his fellow Tibetans, but would certainly announce the eventual failure of his separatist attempt, a "cause" in which he has dedicated most of his life.
As a result, he has kept to his political campaign even after he relinquished political power as head of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
The Dalai Lama knows precisely why he matters in the international political arena and does not mind being used, from time to time, as a cat's paw by some Westerners with mean motives to put pressure on China. In pursuit of fame and power,
he has deviated from the commandments of Buddhism and used his religion as a subterfuge for his personal political motive.
The Dalai Lama, at 76, should seriously follow the teachings of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, and seek the dharma that will liberate him from the rotation of life and death, in lieu of worrying about his reincarnation.
2 wrongs dont make a right. This is like the same argument of USA for invading Iraq, which argue for regime change of cruel Saddam who also tortured his own ppl
• His Holiness the 14TH Dalai Lama has never harmed one Human being in his whole life.
• In fact everything His Holiness the 14TH Dalai Lama does is to benefit all sentient beings including you MORONS and all Chinese People, even though they hold a wrong view towards him.
• This is changing now because His Holiness the 14TH Dalai Lama has given up on your CCP and is turning directly to the Chinese People and many are seeing the Truth about him and TIbet.
@fdoca ya right your mother was whore cause i fuck her for a dime, right baby, next shit head open your mouth go read some real book aight.... fuckkkkk offff
And the Dalai Lama campaigns so hopefully one day these horrors will be over no matter what part of the world. It just so happens China invaded his homeland and aren't the best with human rights in the 21st century. You don't make anything better with this bull****. Find something more constructive and helpful for the world with your spare time.
@beatlesfab1 Iol you wish. I'm in a country that could own china militarily. Watch my channel, i obviously speak american english becuase I'm american. I'm one of the most uncommunist people you'll find. I'm a libertarian. I'm of saxon ancestry. Claim what you will conspiracy theorist. =)
@spartacandream If only I was paranoid, but it's quite obvious you're an agent of the Chinese Communist Party. Whether you're paid or not makes no difference. But you're certainly carrying out their orders. Chump.
@spartacandream He never said anything about wanting to be a king or a pharoah. In fact, he's demonstrated a great deal of humility in his life and teachings. OK, you claim you're not an agent of the CCP, but you certainly make statements that parrot those of CCP agents who troll YouTube.
@beatlesfab1 No, but he was king. By Pharoah, I mean god/holy king, or religious leader king. Yeah he's preached humility and human rights, which is a great message. However, I find it troubling considering his past. He lived in lavish wealth off the back of poor serfs in a feudal society, and didn't care then about human rights. He may have changed, but I'm not so certain I want to buy it, especially not from a religious leader.
The Dalai Lama, in spite of his feudal origin from long ago, turned from a feudalist into a quite decent and rather progressive leader with a great heart. The Chinese new political class, which was at some point on the progressive side of history, turned long ago first into a zealous inquisition (the cultural revolution) and now they are well on the way to become the biggest new feudal oppressor in history.
@FreedomIsYourCover How is a religious leader with centuries of history a cold war relic? The behavior of China within Tibet today is a cultural revolution relic.
Though highly exaggerated, this videos does contain some truths. Tibet was no paradise under the Dalai Lama, 90% of the country were serfs (landless peasants) to a theocratic elite. Though the Chinese are by no means perfect, they have expanded education, health care and employment there. (That they are killing the culture and language of Tibet is another issue).
The current Dalai Lama was enthroned AFTER China invaded Tibet in 1950.Funny how all of these Chinese propoganda videos talk about how evil he was, yet the Chinese allowed him to stay and rule as long as he took a subserviant position. The Chinese only felt the need to "liberate" Tibet from it's religious leadership after uprisings against them challeneged their power. Seems Dalai Lama and his government were only evil once they challenged Han control.
@refel101 I would also point out that it is beyond hypocritical for those of you who choose to defend China on the Tibet issue to only focus on the actions of Tibetans against Tibetans. This is a very colonialist way of dealing with other peoples under Han control. You are looking for excuses to take self rule away from them the same way western powers excused the taking of self rule away from subjugated peoples by pointing out their faults. Do you focus as much on Han behavior inside Tibet?
@refel101 The fact that the Han have such large numbers compared to minority groups like the Tibetans and Xinjiang are the exact reason the current system put in place by the Han run government will lead to the slow destruction of the cultural, linguistic and racial identity of these people. If China was concerned about this fact the government would not allow immigration of millions of Han into tibet and xinjiang, becoming the majority in a land of someone elses ancestors.
@refel101 The goal is not to make you hate your country, it is simply to have you actually question what your unelected government is doing and has done since the early 50's. BTW, tearing down ancient monasteries that stood for centuries and then teaching the dances of a minority people....if you think that makes up for anything or amounts to anything but a political show you are beyond naive.
@refel101 And one last thing...if you were born in America and live in America than you are AMERICAN. People like you are the reason immigrants are looked on with suspicion.
no. im chinese american. no1 wud evr look at me and think im truly america. also, it was kinda elected sinc during the civil war mostly evrybody sided w/ the communists and fought for them
@refel101 You live in America, benefit from it, have citizenship that people are dying in southwestern deserts to gain...you make me sick. You are the worst of immigrants.
my mom lived in china for 26 yrs. she lived in america for 30 yrs. yet she still doesnt exactly luv america. and dont strt saying tht she was brainwashed or 4got wat china is actually like sinc she goes back 2 china evry summer
@refel101 Ohhhh, so now you are suddenly American huh? You seem to change around based on your needs of the time. You are first generation american and haven't been brought up in a home that has taught you to love this country and see it as your home. You call yourself Chinese and act as if China is yor country, don't suddenly act insulted that you were called immigrant, that was more than you deserve.Your mother didn't have to stay and have children here if she didn't like it, period.
so tell tht 2 all the italian americans, polish americans, russian americans. the only thing i do differently thn other "true" americans is speak chinese, kungfu, dance, and talk 2 racist shit like u
@refel101 Oh please, don't compare yourself to them. The difference is not race, it's attitude. There are Polish and Italian Americans all over this country who only consider themselves American. They don't act as if this country is a temporary annoyance until they can go back "home". You and your family seem to take the opposite side, you want to go back to the motherland, you just can't afford it. And don't play the racism card,it is played out and shows a weak hand. Its not race, its attitude
@refel101 And why did your mom come here in the first place? Why not Taiwan? Hong Kong? Singapore? She chose to come to a non Chinese society, only to change her mind and rush back home once Chinas economy gets better? If she loved China so much she wouldn't leave when it was bad and come back when it gets better.
@refel101 And BTW FiFi, if I was racist against Chinese people I wouldn't waste my life getting a degree in Chinese language and civilization. Just because someone finds fault in your attitudes, beliefs or statements doesn't make them racist. Find another attack.
wth is w/ the"fifi" thing. tht aint my name. so ur telling me tht the han is erasing all the minority ppls culture ut ur telling me 2 4get abt my heritage and culture and become americanized?
@refel101 First of all, everyone on your profile is calling you fifi...
second of all, need I point out the difference here? Apparently so...natvie minority groups within the borders of China ARE in their homeland, they haven't chosen to immigrate to another nation. Their homeland is often the only place in the world where their culture exists, so if the Han dominating culture and language takes over then that is it, period.A family that chooses to immigrate to another country is very different
@refel101 Lastly, there was never any mention of you having to forget about your culture and heritage...but if you were born and raised in America and are an American citizen, OF COURSE YOU MUST BECOME AMERICANIZED. That isn't allot to ask of people who immigrate and their descendants. That applies to all countries where large scale immigration is taking place. Just look at the problems of north African immigrant communities in France where they don't assimilate.
@refel101 And you aren't simply remembering your culture and heritage, you are placing more respect and love on another country while being a citizen of this one. That is far from remembering your culture and heritage, it is growing up in home that didn't teach you to appreciate your country and respect it.
im not named aftr a poodle.&i dont. i just hav more respect 4 china wen im in america&ppl think im related 2 japanese ppl think kungfu is like karate i hav more respect 4 america wen im in china watching my relatives go crazy over french fries. basically, im equal ecept i look chinese, think in a nerdy chinese way but i think in english&im not a total 100% chinese nerd sinc chinese ppl r sposd 2 b a perfect student&dont think abt anything but skool, but i think abt messd up stuff
Oh now DL is a religious leader rather than a "spiritual leader" marketed by the western media.
This politician Dalai Lama was the head of the political and religious authority over 50 years ago. The owner of the theocracy before he ran off to India.
He is a cold war relic created under the CIA cold war mentality. He has outrun his usefulness. Time to move over.
@FreedomIsYourCover You deny the importance of the Dalai Lama within Tibetan history for centuries? The Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader, religious leader and political leader. It is no more the right or place of the Han chinese to invade and "liberate" the Tibetans from their religious leader than it would be for them to invade the Vatican and "liberate" the Catholics from the Pope!
100 Kilos, is 220 Lbs, i highly doubt these tiny starved women ever carried such a weight, probably doubling their body weight. NOT POSSIBLE! were not ants..
******Lets simplify based on the two parties respective philosophies, Buddhism is PEACEFUL and Communism? I don't even want to finish that sentence for fear of Chinese Big Brother, but PEOPLE look at the doctrine and track record..
Dont let the images of human flayed skin shock and turn you, reason, what do you know about Stalin, Lenin,Marx,Trotsky, Mao etc.? Now try to compare HH the Dalai Lama...
Good luck on your respective journey's. Don't believe everything you see/hear/read search deeper
There were poor Chinese beggers all over Tibetan villages and cities in the 50s and 60s, as result of wars and faming . Communist China was and is based on lie and terre. Here nothing further explain is needed, we all live in 2010 , information age.
the pictures were taken by the communists and they were good at making up stories as we all agree. Some of thiese pictures tells nothing other than poor farmers doing their jobs.. It's not like the Chinese farmers eating their children out of hanger. No matter how hangry the Tibetans had become, there never been a case where one kill their own children and eat them, which was very common in China, if poor is what you are trying to protrait then Tibetans were much much better the Chinese,
The Devils always sitting on TOP of the food chain. The young and the old Dalai (never work a day in his life) Lama looks very evil. One pic even show devil hand sign. Time will tell.
suddently! all western friends sit on a confortable sofa, listern to the speaking from dalai lama, boring his akolasia life, where is the heaven?so he never been to tibet, even china, but he become a tibet expert. he hate ccp, caused he hate china, and distort some truth. If you think all the chinese people has been washed mind. the western is the science center of world, please do some objective work. we will improve a lot of thing. please give china a new perspective
This video is so poorly made, it makes the content suspect. The ominous music, the amateurish scrolling of type, the silly questions. I am intrigued enough to research this for myself, but the video is a disservice to the cause, if there be a just cause at all -- I can't tell. I'm so tired of people trying to yank my chain. Why couldn't the creator of this video just give us some reliable facts from known sources? Good grief!
Words fail me.... what an absolute load of shit. Shouldn't even be wasting my time to comment. You would have to be a total fool to of believed a word of that. How ridiculous!
its not ridiculous man they lived like kings they had serfs ie slaves the worst form of a monarchical society
the nazis beleived they were the ancestors to the aryan race and loved them and admired their way of living they said they lived like kings. 0ne of them was an SS officer that became friends with the Lama. If a serf didn't do his job he would be disemboweled. This shit has been learn before china took it. China took it cos of communist ideasz not that they really are
It is clear to all of the civilised World, that the Chinese propaganda about "liberating" Tibet only was the official excuse to enforce their occupation of Tibet and steal it from the Tibetans. "A lie repeated a hundred times becomes the truth." -Chairman Mao
God! The God-damned Chinese have balls to post this on YouTube when they block YouTube in their murderous state. THIS IS AN OBSCENITY! FREE TIBET! China, everyone but a few idiots HATE and DESPISE your government!
a video full of words is not convincing arguement what we need is testimony of free speaking tibetan people on video telling us. If they were enslaved this will be easy to prove they will tell us so if you really want to show this truth then show it as the truth is important to be established
If this is true, then why do Tibetans so fiercely defend him in the land that China has taken from them? If this is true, then why are the Chinese so cruel to the Tibetans living there and why did they kill so many of them?
good question, it's not all tibetans anti-chinese. majority tibetans actually hope peaceful life. the media makes it look like all tibetans are anti-chinese. and most exiled tibans are the 5% ruling the rest of 95% tibetan slaves in old tibet. they lost their power so they have enough reason to sabotage chinese.
How can you call Tibetans under the Dalai Lama slaves? They were more free than the Chinese, didn't have to pay taxes, give up their native language and culture, or worry about being attacked or put into prison for saying what they thought and believed. The nomads are a case in point. They are now being forced to settle in cities where they are REALLY poor unless they kowtow to learning Mandarin and doing as they are told to get jobs FROM the Chinese. So who are the real slaves?
Old Tibet had a lord/serf system. No taxes because they dun owe anything including themselves. The Dalai Lama sat on top of this system so normal Tibetans were, yes, slaves. How would you feel if you were born into the slave caste and told you'll be a slave forever? at least learning Mandarin will get modern Tibetans ahead in life.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this video is misleading... besides we all know that chinese are greedy.. they are taking everything around them.. You are so Hypocrite, you just googled the images that you have its not actually considered as a FACT.. besides this "THEORY" is uncomparable to what happened at TIANANMEN SQUARE
My fellow westerners will never let themselves accept that the Dalai Lama is nothing more than the Osama bin laden of the FAR EAST. WE (the good ole USA) trained him and backed him, all the while we were disgusted with his means of action and enslavement. WAKE UP, AMERICANS!! TIBET IS JUST A USA-MADE MYTH TO MAKE US BELIEVE CHINA IS EVIL AND TO TRY TO DISRUPT CHINAS POWER OVER ITS OWN COUNTRY!! What would we do if China helped Florida rebel?? WE are the perpetrators, soon we will be chinasbitch
yes the "Dalai" has so much Blood on his hand...he enslaved and tortured his "own" people...when a slave going wild because they cannot live this life anymore the monks beating them with a special whip, cutting them fingers...in case of upstanding again ears...then eyes (5*! greetings from Berlin)
I was suprised many years ago when i was gonna do this school project using him as the subject. It did lead to an incident where i was forced NOT to do the report when i told the teacher about the true tyrannical past of Tibet. Instead...and this is so true it's sad, i was allowed to do a report on George Carlin's career. She said that wouldn't bring "conflict" in the class. Fuck the old Tibet. Fuck Modern China. Both sides wrong as usual.
please do not ignore the fact that round fifty-nine the dalai lama was just a kid. He acknowledged since being dalai lama the need for changing the ways of tibet.. Therefore he accepts that tibet may be part of china as an autonomous region, and is open to both democratic as communist elements. It's ok to use the past, but also not forget the present like: how tibetans live in dharamsala for instance. They may have been serfs, but is it still that way? would it be so automatically?
from the view of present situations in tibet, or in any place where humans are treated as less-humans for that matter: I don't think that the negative history of a place is enough reason to accept that people and there way of life are violated. From that way of reasoning one can say it is ok to put chinese in working camps because they put Tibetans in working camps, which is absurd reasoning off course. I think it is better to promote peace at this moment, at any place and for any person.
'It's ok to use the past, but also not forget the present like.'
i agree with u on this. but how tibetans live in dharamsala now? rite, they are not surfs any more. but how Dalai lama treat his own peope? for 12 years now he has not responsed for the shugden people. he kicked them out of the monastery with no food supply, and no medical care. many of them were beaten and some were even killed! is this really a progressed society?
by no means i think China is angel. yes, China has benefits Tibet but many problems remain. In order to resolve the problem, we need the world fairly acknowledge the issues in Tibet. When the west is eager to promote an image of bad China and peaceful Dalai Lama, the ordinary Chinese automatically withdraw their critical oberservations on the government and turn to 'fight' with the 'enemies' from outside.
A bunch Anglos in their 40s supposedly from Students for Free Tibet went to Tiananmen. Despite language barrier, their protests drew crowds of angry Chinese. Surprisingly perhaps, Western media claims the pro-China crowd is "hired" by Chinese government. Like the Western protesters, the pro-China protesters were also escorted away. But it is reported by the paranoid Western media as "disappeared into security service." In this case, the Christian West thorough insulted the Chinese people again.
Quote Mikey "God is above all laws, including the Chinese"
This is the root of Western disrespect of China. Mikey, do you have any logical argument for that? I simply do not buy it. God is rooted in childhood indoctrination. It is like "Hitler is above all laws, including the Finnish"
This represents the frustration of the Chinese. The West are brainwashed with a self-supremacy deity. They are willing to KILL ALL for their barbaric almighty.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT PUT THE TIBETAN FLAG ON YOUR PROFILE DURING THE GAMES 8-24 Aug
In October 1950 the People's Lib. Army defeated the Tibetan army at Chamdo. This attack marked the beginning of Beijing's campaign to integrate Tibet into People's Rep. of China. This has led to the wrongful slaughtering of Tibetan people for more than 50 yrs. More than 1 million people executed, commited suicide, etc. during this conflict
The Tang-Tubo (ancient name of Tibet) Alliance Monument erected in 823 still stands in the square in front of the Jokhang Monastery. The monument inscription reads:
"The two sovereigns, uncle and nephew, having come to agreement that their territories be united as one, have signed this alliance of great peace to last for eternity! May God and humanity bear witness thereto so that it may be praised from generation to generation."
According to records, there were about 1.2 million Tibetans in 1950's. Today, there are more than 6 millions Tibetans. Isn't this a miracle. The NAZI's killed 6 million Jews alone in a few years.
My point is to point out the claim by Seagull0022 above that "...More than 1 million people executed, commited suicide, etc. during this conflict..." not likely true for Tibetans but probably true for China as a whole when CCO first come to power. If one over million Tibetand died in 1950s then there should not be any Tibetan left instead of more than 6 million today.
as far as i know, this number concerns not only the deaths of Tibetans in the fifties, but the whole of deaths caused by this conflict from the beginning till now. I don't see this impossible, because it concerns more then on generation of Tibetans. This would mean that if no Tibetans died because of this reason, the number would be something like: seven million or more, due to getting of kids and so.
Foreign protesters show cases of Christian ethnocentrism
"It was important for us that there be a clear voice speaking out against the Chinese government's abuse of human rights," the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, told AP by telephone afterward.
They erected a banner in front of communist strongman Mao Zedong's mausoleum that said "Christ is King" and knelt and prayed.
Obviously, they are not shot as they angrily predicted.
jeffmagic, Do you take in wholeheartedly everything your church tells you?Your sentiment is rooted in Christianity.Since the 18the century,China is identified as a major target for Christian proselytizing.Christians ignorantly see China as something needing to change,to bring to civilized world.Follow the same lunacy, they forced 2 million aborigine children away from their parents. The Christian West never learned anything. The simple fact is: Christianity failed 2000 years in China. Get over it.
I appreciate the fact you care so much about your mother country, but clearly you are mixed up in some facts about the people, culture, and thought processes of the west.... so try as you might your points will never really "speak" to us.
Western is not equal to christian or racist. Christianity is not equal to foreign affairs, nor does not have the power you seem to think it has. Western people can only know what the media says - if we know incorrectly, attack the media, not the people.
Point is, how China should deal with separatists in Tibet is an internal issue to China. Just like China doesn't tell the US how to to deal with separatists in Hawaii, Texas, California, Arizona, Guam, etc...
what facts did uvgarden mix up? tibet was clearly a feudal, serfdom society prior to 1951.
why don't you get your facts straight about tibet and the dalai?
I understand what the point was, and my point was slightly different... and completely unrelated to tibet and the dalai. I didn't accuse uvgarden of mixing up facts about the dalai or tibet - of that I have no authority. I do believe that my statement was clear enough though, so I won't repeat.
In response to a message from uvgarden, I asked him to list 3 bad thing the Chinese government has done since the communist take-over. So, he writes this...
"I say things as I see it. They are facts. Why do you hold-dear so many obvious-wrongs as truth? Clearly you are brainwashed. The West must learn to respect facts. Fuck Racist Christians."
Ah - so he is unwilling to admit even one error made by the Chinese gov - instead he insults me and all Christians around the world. Brainwashed.
Jeffmagic, can you find any Chinese poster who says "all monks are bad"? It is your Christian church who brainwashed you to believe China is anti-religion. This is a complete false perception.
Do you not know a handful of radical Tibetan monks exploded a police station and a subway? Do you not know 5 young girls are burnt alive by a handful of Tibetan rioters? It seems you know nothing! Christians must learn to respect fact. Ignorance and close-mind get you no where!
In a recent report of Diana O'Brien. CBC quotes a funeral guest "I don't believe China caught the man a few days later. The Olympic is coming, China forces someone to confess."
Shame to racist Canada! Has the guest ANY evidence to back up such a vile attach? Her ignorance and hostility against China reflect profound biases in Canadian textbooks and Christian churches. It is racist. It is irrational. It is ignorant. Unfortunately, CBC actively promotes such prejudice against the Chinese.
why is the Chinese government so afraid of religion? I do not believe in any of it, but if people do they should be able to worship however they want.
the fact that you equate religious freedom to attempts to incite separatism shows that you are one very confused person. these monks are under the control of the dalai, their god-king; they want a return to the old feudal system, not further religious freedom (cause they got that already) it's no accident that the riots in 3/14 happened weeks before the olympic torch relay. these monks are employed by the dalai; and the dalai is paid by the CIA.
I never mentioned separatism - you did. You seem so filled with hate and paranoia - everybody is wrong except for the Chinese government. According to you guys - Monks are bad. So are Christians (who are also racists). So is the Dalai Lama. So is the US government. Thanks goodness the Chinese government is perfect - having never done anything wrong throughout history.
Yes I did. You are confusing attempts to separate Tibet from China from disguised calls for religious freedom. dalai and his goons are not after religious freedom, but rather a return to the feudal system. Google: Dorje Shugden. They say they want a democratic system, but how can you have that when you got a god-king running the show.
the separatists want the world to see what is happening, so it makes sense they would do it shortly before the Olympics - that doesn't say anything about negative their cause. I am not in favor of a one man ruling a country, but if the people of Tibet prefer that to the rule of an outside and also non-representative government - in my mind, they have the right to at least express that desire with protest.
certainly I get most of my information from the western media, but what are my alternatives? Just take the Chinese government's word for it? Or listen to the explicitly and heavily censored Chinese media?
Should Tibetans need to disguise their desire for independence from China?
so now we are no longer talking about 'human rights' or 'religious freedom' those are bogus arguments to start.
are you talking about all tibetans or just talking heads from the dalai camp?
one thing about the chinese news organizations is that they just shutup on stuff they don't want to talking about. when when they do report, they usually gets it right.
by the way Tibet is 25% of China landmass. An independent Tibet is not going to happen. dalai knows this, and this is why he's calling for 'autonomy' which everyone understand it to be eventual independence. both are no go for chinese government or chinese people.
Tibetans are Chinese, just like the Hui and Mongols, who also happen to inhabit Tibet. I have no problem with people living in Tibet voting whether they want a throwback to the old feudal system.
It's clear you don't have a clue about what being Chinese means. Go read "List of ethnic groups in China" on Wikipedia.
You are right, I don't have much of a clue what being Chinese means. But Tibetans view themselves as distinct - whether its a cultural or ethnic distinction doesn't matter. If a group lives in a defined geographic region, and they desire to be independent, the group ruling them against their wishes will have to act harshly with them to keep order.
Again, you are speaking out of your ass in absolute terms.
Acted harshly? You mean like the time when Britain invaded Tibet in 1903? Google "THE TIBETAN TREATY.; Translation of Chinese Draft of the Document Won by Col. Younghusband."
China paid indemnity on Tibet's behave in 1904. I wonder why...Maybe Tibet was part of China??!
No country in the world has ever recognized the independence of Tibet or declared that Tibet is an 'occupied country'. For all countries in the world, Tibet is Chinese territory.
That was the point, and apparently, you missed it.
Jeffmagic, I say things as I see it. They are facts. Why do you hold-dear so many obvious-wrongs as truth? Clearly you are brainwashed. The West must learn to respect facts.
First of all, I am not Christian - second, your portrait of China and occupied Tibet as a happy land of total religious freedom is an all-perfect government is what smells of brainwashing.
The West faces severe difficulty with Zimbabwean farming policy.
In fact, the West has always reinforced similar racist policies. In Western democracies, white-murders are repeatedly walk-free.
Minorities are shot in the US and UK during raceroits. From Spain to Italy, African migrants, women and children, are drowng on the beach. Those survived are sentenced into concentration-camp similar to those in Nzi Germany.

TheMightyGuri 3 weeks ago
The 14th Dalai Lama said Saturday he will decide whether to be incarnated when he is "about 90" and that China should have no say in the matter.
If he is to be reincarnated, he will leave clear written instructions about the process, the Dalai Lama said in a statement after a meeting with leaders of the four Tibetan sects.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
"Apart from the reincarnation recognized through such legitimate methods, no recognition or acceptance should be given to a candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including those in the People's Republic of China," he said.
The Dalai Lama has brought up the same issue of his reincarnation on many occasions in the last two years.
Each time he insisted on guiding the choice of his successor, though his assertions kept changing in form.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
According to the Dalai Lama, his reincarnation could be chosen when he's still alive, or be stopped altogether. His reincarnation could be designated, or elected in a papal-style conclave, and could be a girl, inside or even outside China.
The issue has been brought up nearly every month since the Dalai Lama transferred his political role to Lobsang Sangay, the new prime minister of the "government-in-exile" in April.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
On the latest occasion on Saturday, he said he will consult Buddhist scholars -- 14 years from now -- to evaluate whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue at all.
The reincarnation of Living Buddhas has always followed strict historical conventions and religious rituals, and all the Dalai Lamas have been approved by China's central regime since 1653.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
Now the 14th Dalai Lama, eager to pass on his "Tibet independence" attempt, is ready to defy these rituals.
Obviously, he's facing the biggest challenge: whether he is truly willing to retire from politics, most probably into obscurity in Dharamsala, the northern Indian town where his "government-in-exile" is based.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and published author of several books preaching for "Tibet independence" and reviling China's ruling Communist Party, is apparently reluctant to retire from politics and the spotlight -- though the high monk should know what truly matters for a Buddhist.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
Over the decades since he fled China in 1959, the Dalai Lama has come to enjoy his role as a political monk, traveling across the globe, picking up his accolades and selling his independence claim.
Like a has-been star, he fears the loss of popularity, a personal loss that does no harm to his fellow Tibetans, but would certainly announce the eventual failure of his separatist attempt, a "cause" in which he has dedicated most of his life.
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
As a result, he has kept to his political campaign even after he relinquished political power as head of the Tibetan government-in-exile.
The Dalai Lama knows precisely why he matters in the international political arena and does not mind being used, from time to time, as a cat's paw by some Westerners with mean motives to put pressure on China. In pursuit of fame and power,
ShigleySheila 4 months ago
he has deviated from the commandments of Buddhism and used his religion as a subterfuge for his personal political motive.
The Dalai Lama, at 76, should seriously follow the teachings of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, and seek the dharma that will liberate him from the rotation of life and death, in lieu of worrying about his reincarnation.

The Brutal Nazi CCP invaded Tibet in 1949.
6,000 monasteries, nunneries, temples,_ and their contents were destroyed.
1.2 million Tibetans died as a result of China's policies.
All people including Chinese and Tibetans deserve the basic
human rights to preserve their cultures, express their political
views, and freely practice their religious beliefs.
I pray_ this happens in Tibet and China soon.

@spartacandream He never said anything about wanting to be a king or a pharoah. In fact, he's demonstrated a great deal of humility in his life and teachings. OK, you claim you're not an agent of the CCP, but you certainly make statements that parrot those of CCP agents who troll YouTube.
beatlesfab1 1 year ago

@refel101 You do know that he was 15 when he took the throne AFTER China took over?
knoxzoo75 1 year ago
@refel101 I would also point out that it is beyond hypocritical for those of you who choose to defend China on the Tibet issue to only focus on the actions of Tibetans against Tibetans. This is a very colonialist way of dealing with other peoples under Han control. You are looking for excuses to take self rule away from them the same way western powers excused the taking of self rule away from subjugated peoples by pointing out their faults. Do you focus as much on Han behavior inside Tibet?
knoxzoo75 1 year ago

knoxzoo75 1 year ago

refel101 1 year ago
@refel101 The fact that the Han have such large numbers compared to minority groups like the Tibetans and Xinjiang are the exact reason the current system put in place by the Han run government will lead to the slow destruction of the cultural, linguistic and racial identity of these people. If China was concerned about this fact the government would not allow immigration of millions of Han into tibet and xinjiang, becoming the majority in a land of someone elses ancestors.
knoxzoo75 1 year ago

refel101 1 year ago
@refel101 The goal is not to make you hate your country, it is simply to have you actually question what your unelected government is doing and has done since the early 50's. BTW, tearing down ancient monasteries that stood for centuries and then teaching the dances of a minority people....if you think that makes up for anything or amounts to anything but a political show you are beyond naive.

@refel101 Lastly, there was never any mention of you having to forget about your culture and heritage...but if you were born and raised in America and are an American citizen, OF COURSE YOU MUST BECOME AMERICANIZED. Just look at the problems of north African immigrant communities in France where they don't assimilate.
knoxzoo75 1 year ago
@refel101 And you aren't simply remembering your culture and heritage, you are placing more respect and love on another country while being a citizen of this one. good question, it's not all tibetans anti-chinese. majority tibetans actually hope peaceful life. the media makes it look like all tibetans are anti-chinese. and most exiled tibans are the 5% ruling the rest of 95% tibetan slaves in old tibet. they lost their power so they have enough reason to sabotage chinese.
jackyfever 2 years ago
To jackyfever:
How can you call Tibetans under the Dalai Lama slaves? They were more free than the Chinese, didn't have to pay taxes, give up their native language and culture, or worry about being attacked or put into prison for saying what they thought and believed. The nomads are a case in point. They are now being forced to settle in cities where they are REALLY poor unless they kowtow to learning Mandarin and doing as they are told to get jobs FROM the Chinese. So who are the real slaves?
zephyrquartz 2 years ago
Old Tibet had a lord/serf system. No taxes because they dun owe anything including themselves. The Dalai Lama sat on top of this system so normal Tibetans were, yes, slaves. How would you feel if you were born into the slave caste and told you'll be a slave forever? at least learning Mandarin will get modern Tibetans ahead in life.

please do not ignore the fact that round fifty-nine the dalai lama was just a kid. They may have been serfs, but is it still that way? would it be so automatically?
michael1liz 3 years ago
from the view of present situations in tibet, or in any place where humans are treated as less-humans for that matter: I don't think that the negative history of a place is enough reason to accept that people and there way of life are violated. From that way of reasoning one can say it is ok to put chinese in working camps because they put Tibetans in working camps, which is absurd reasoning off course. I think it is better to promote peace at this moment, at any place and for any person.
michael1liz 3 years ago
'It's ok to use the past, but also not forget the present like.'
i agree with u on this. but how tibetans live in dharamsala now? rite, they are not surfs any more. but how Dalai lama treat his own peope? for 12 years now he has not responsed for the shugden people. he kicked them out of the monastery with no food supply, and no medical care. many of them were beaten and some were even killed! is this really a progressed society?
wanderinginsummer 3 years ago
by no means i think China is angel. yes, China has benefits Tibet but many problems remain. In order to resolve the problem, we need the world fairly acknowledge the issues in Tibet. When the west is eager to promote an image of bad China and peaceful Dalai Lama, the ordinary Chinese automatically withdraw their critical oberservations on the government and turn to 'fight' with the 'enemies' from outside.
it's just no good for anyone!
wanderinginsummer 3 years ago
A bunch Anglos in their 40s supposedly from Students for Free Tibet went to Tiananmen. Despite language barrier, their protests drew crowds of angry Chinese. Surprisingly perhaps, Western media claims the pro-China crowd is "hired" by Chinese government. Like the Western protesters, the pro-China protesters were also escorted away. But it is reported by the paranoid Western media as "disappeared into security service." In this case, the Christian West thorough insulted the Chinese people again.

This has led to the wrongful slaughtering of Tibetan people for more than 50 yrs. More than 1 million people executed, commited suicide, etc. during this conflict
- it needs to end

The Tang-Tubo (ancient name of Tibet) Alliance Monument erected in 823 still stands in the square in front of the Jokhang Monastery. The monument inscription reads:
"The two sovereigns, uncle and nephew, having come to agreement that their territories be united as one, have signed this alliance of great peace to last for eternity! May God and humanity bear witness thereto so that it may be praised from generation to generation."

According to records, there were about 1.2 million Tibetans in 1950's. Today, there are more than 6 millions Tibetans. Isn't this a miracle. The NAZI's killed 6 million Jews alone in a few years.
sgtsk 3 years ago
what is your point?
michael1liz 3 years ago
My point is to point out the claim by Seagull0022 above that "...More than 1 million people executed, commited suicide, etc. during this conflict..." not likely true for Tibetans but probably true for China as a whole when CCO first come to power. If one over million Tibetand died in 1950s then there should not be any Tibetan left instead of more than 6 million today.
sgtsk 3 years ago
as far as i know, this number concerns not only the deaths of Tibetans in the fifties, but the whole of deaths caused by this conflict from the beginning till now.

Get over it.
uvgarden 3 years ago
I appreciate the fact you care so much about your mother country, but clearly you are mixed up in some facts about the people, culture, and thought processes of the west.... so try as you might your points will never really "speak" to us.
Western is not equal to christian or racist. Christianity is not equal to foreign affairs, nor does not have the power you seem to think it has. Western people can only know what the media says - if we know incorrectly, attack the media, not the people.

jonzim0,
Point is, how China should deal with separatists in Tibet is an internal issue to China. Just like China doesn't tell the US how to to deal with separatists in Hawaii, Texas, California, Arizona, Guam, etc...
what facts did uvgarden mix up? tibet was clearly a feudal, serfdom society prior to 1951.
why don't you get your facts straight about tibet and the dalai?
lc36163 3 years ago
I understand what the point was, and my point was slightly different... and completely unrelated to tibet and the dalai. I didn't accuse uvgarden of mixing up facts about the dalai or tibet - of that I have no authority. I do believe that my statement was clear enough though, so I won't repeat.

Republic of China(ROC 1912- ) rejected the British Simla Convention. Representative Chen YiFan in a written statement said:
"Government of ROC refuses to recognize any agreement with His Majestys Government and Tibet might conclude
independently either now or in the future."

Ignorance and close-mind get you no where!
uvgarden 3 years ago
Jeffmagic, Tibet is no Kosovo. If there is a vote, it will be ALL CHINESE voting.
BTW, the Native Tribes have voted for independence. What is the US response? Do you know?!

Unfortunately, CBC actively promotes such prejudice against the Chinese.
uvgarden 3 years ago
why is the Chinese government so afraid of religion? I do not believe in any of it, but if people do they should be able to worship however they want.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
Afraid of religion? I wonder what all the Tibetans monks are doing in Tibet...You know, the ones you see crying on TV.
lc36163 3 years ago
I generally don't equate crying monks with religious freedom, lol.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
if there is no freedom of religion, there would be no monks.
lc36163 3 years ago
if there is just a tiny bit of religious freedom the you will see monks crying and other religious leaders in prison or in exile.
CinemaKhmer 3 years ago
the fact that you do equate crying monks with religious freedom is quite sad really
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
the fact that you equate religious freedom to attempts to incite separatism shows that you are one very confused person. these monks are under the control of the dalai, their god-king; they want a return to the old feudal system, not further religious freedom (cause they got that already) it's no accident that the riots in 3/14 happened weeks before the olympic torch relay. these monks are employed by the dalai; and the dalai is paid by the CIA.
lc36163 3 years ago
I never mentioned separatism - you did. You seem so filled with hate and paranoia - everybody is wrong except for the Chinese government. According to you guys - Monks are bad. So are Christians (who are also racists). So is the Dalai Lama. So is the US government. Thanks goodness the Chinese government is perfect - having never done anything wrong throughout history.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
Yes I did. You are confusing attempts to separate Tibet from China from disguised calls for religious freedom. dalai and his goons are not after religious freedom, but rather a return to the feudal system. Google: Dorje Shugden. They say they want a democratic system, but how can you have that when you got a god-king running the show.
lc36163 3 years ago
the separatists want the world to see what is happening, so it makes sense they would do it shortly before the Olympics - that doesn't say anything about negative their cause. I am not in favor of a one man ruling a country, but if the people of Tibet prefer that to the rule of an outside and also non-representative government - in my mind, they have the right to at least express that desire with protest.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
tell me, what is happening? do you really know first hand, or are you getting all your information from separatists and sympathetic western media?
Not negative? tell that to the Han and Muslims who were burnt alive by the rioting mobs on 3/14.
So now you agree calls for religious freedom was really a disguise to gain independence from China.
you are for a totalitarian, slave owning society with zero tolerance for religious freedom?
lc36163 3 years ago
certainly I get most of my information from the western media, but what are my alternatives? Just take the Chinese government's word for it? Or listen to the explicitly and heavily censored Chinese media?
Should Tibetans need to disguise their desire for independence from China?
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
so now we are no longer talking about 'human rights' or 'religious freedom' those are bogus arguments to start.
are you talking about all tibetans or just talking heads from the dalai camp?
one thing about the chinese news organizations is that they just shutup on stuff they don't want to talking about. when when they do report, they usually gets it right.
your alternative: read melvin goldstein.
lc36163 3 years ago
by the way Tibet is 25% of China landmass. An independent Tibet is not going to happen. dalai knows this, and this is why he's calling for 'autonomy' which everyone understand it to be eventual independence. both are no go for chinese government or chinese people.
lc36163 3 years ago
it is clear you want Tibetan land for the Chinese people - yet you pretend to care what is best for the people of Tibet.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
Tibetans are Chinese, just like the Hui and Mongols, who also happen to inhabit Tibet. I have no problem with people living in Tibet voting whether they want a throwback to the old feudal system.
It's clear you don't have a clue about what being Chinese means. Go read "List of ethnic groups in China" on Wikipedia.
lc36163 3 years ago
You are right, I don't have much of a clue what being Chinese means. But Tibetans view themselves as distinct - whether its a cultural or ethnic distinction doesn't matter. If a group lives in a defined geographic region, and they desire to be independent, the group ruling them against their wishes will have to act harshly with them to keep order.
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
Again, you are speaking out of your ass in absolute terms.
Acted harshly? You mean like the time when Britain invaded Tibet in 1903? Google "THE TIBETAN TREATY.; Translation of Chinese Draft of the Document Won by Col. Younghusband."
China paid indemnity on Tibet's behave in 1904. I wonder why...Maybe Tibet was part of China??!
lc36163 3 years ago
so now you are relying on the British? Suddenly it seems westerners are not so bad - when they agree with you
jeffmagic32 3 years ago
No country in the world has ever recognized the independence of Tibet or declared that Tibet is an 'occupied country'. For all countries in the world, Tibet is Chinese territory.
That was the point, and apparently, you missed it.
lc36163 3 years ago

First of all, I am not Christian - second, your portrait of China and occupied Tibet as a happy land of total religious freedom is an all-perfect government is what smells of brainwashing.

Tibet has been part of China since Yuan dynasty. It's not an occupation.
lc36163 3 years ago
The West faces severe difficulty with Zimbabwean farming policy.
In fact, the West has always reinforced similar racist policies. In Western democracies, white-murders are repeatedly walk-free.
Minorities are shot in the US and UK during raceroits. From Spain to Italy, African migrants, women and children, are drowng on the beach. Those survived are sentenced into concentration-camp similar to those in Nzi Germany.
I say Mugabi is a good student of West.
