  • i can see your very good at vlogging,I've tried it but ultimately i cant do it well enough to even bother with it.well just wanna say good job on the video and your channels is really cool.

  • Thanks a lot! It's nice to receive honest, positive feedback! :)

  • rofl. damn funny.

  • ???

  • I missed the old school vlogging on your channel, but I figured recording, editing, rendering, and posting 10 minutes of footage almost daily had been dedicated to running and fitness instead, so it was for a good cause.

  • I missed them too. It really has nothing to do with the exercising, I just think my YT priorities changed a bit to do other things. I won't ignore the new direction I was going, but it will be nice to recapture this aspect of my YT "craft." :)

  • im not really in2 making these vids myself but i certainly enjoy your vids.

    I'm addicted to lost

  • Thank you very much! I hope to record a Lost video tonight.

  • It just goes to show how much you can get out of doing something unplanned.

  • Yeah...and I probably could have gone on for another 10 minutes!

  • Drat, I've had the phrase "Hey everybody, what's up" in my head all weekend, while trying to hurry back to Myspace & Facebook (damn those little apps!). I think Twitter & *logging are much better communication. And still trying to blog everyday, trying to 'assess & cater to my audience', and it's harder than I expected. Good topic! 5*

  • It really takes a lot to blog every day. It forces you to look at topics and life a little bit differently, I think.

  • you could have done this all along , but i guess a temporary dalliance into the world of another vid sharing site was in order , so you could see what you have here .

    JV

  • Actually, I only made a handful of videos over on Vloggerheads late this summer. It never really got in the way of my making videos here. My overall lag in video making kind of happened after all that. But yeah, I like what I have here! :)

  • I like this idea. I'm looking forward to it. I wanted to start vlogging on youtube, but I just found it easier to vlog on vloggerheads...but I'm still here and always watching...although I usually don't comment. I always watch and I know I should comment, but blahhh.

  • I know how that goes. I tried out the Vloggerheads thing and it just didn't stick with me. For me, YT is my home....But what I liked about VHs when I was doing it was the pure sense of just simply vlogging for the sake of vlogging, which I do miss. I want to bring that back to my channel. Thanks for watching! :)

  • I like the idea, good luck with it!

And you're right, once you have more people watching it becomes less personal. I miss that somehow...

  • Yeah. I do to! I started that new channel and a part of me really likes that there's only 7 subscribers over there! :)

  • I'll be watching! Thanks, Grams

  • Cool! Thanks! :)

  • ...talking abt facebook, i think u didnt accept my friend request there :(

  • Send it again...I may not have recognized your profile image.

  • Do you ever have the temptation to talk about celebs (a la Defranco and WhatTheBuck)? As It is an easy way to get large amounts of viewers. Or are you happy with quality over quantity? lol

  • To best honest, I think they are both really good video makers, but I hate their content and don't watch them. I just could care less about talking about celebrities, you know? I think that's why I like YouTube so much....when it's just videos by unknown normal people, we can avoid a lot of the celebrity talk and talk about things that are real. I know I could get a lot higher views talking about that stuff, but I'd rather have quality over quantity. Look at the discussion threads in this video

  • ...I'd rather have intelligent discussion vs. a lot of "Brad Pitt is hot" or whatever comments! LOL

  • i will always love your vlogs!

  • Thanks Ralf!

  • I cant imagine having more than the 140 or so subs that I have now. I would be petrified to talk to 10,000!

  • Imagine some of those YT All-Stars with 50,000! Or WhattheBuck with close to 100,000. It's crazy!

  • Geez Gary, at least do your hair next time...you have bedhead. ;)

  • Itsa hot mess! LOL

  • I don't enjoy vlogging that much anymore. I'd rather tell stories. I hear what you're saying on the other sites tho!

  • My vlogs will still usually be about a topic and not necessarily about "here's what I did today" unless I can make a greater point...And quite often there are exceptions. I'm not fond on sharing the minute details of my life, but I do find there are greater, universal themes I want to talk about all the time.

  • Uncle Gary. I would never dissapear on you. If I go from here you would know. And then there's still all those other sites. I understand what you mean. I try not to care but I do. Thanks for the litte chat yesterday. I love ya,...your YT niece

  • Thanks Eva! :)

  • I just feel very uncomfortable vlogging so the times that I have tried, the video just sucked. I very much respect you and others for having the knack for vlogging. I love to watch them, I just suck at creating them myself.

  • When you're a perfectionist, it's very easy to let the little things go. First it's the lighting, then the video quality, then the background setting, then background music, then next thing you know, a simple vlog about going to the grocery store turns into Lord of the Rings!

  • I tried to do the Vlog-A-Day challenge for all of December 2008 but I failed. They weren't that great anyway. They weren't structurally sound like yours. But I like your videos, have subscribed for a long time. You're one of the few who inspire me.

  • Wow...thank you!

  • I'm going to take this challenge and add my own personal stamp - like instead of 'a vlog a day' I'm aiming for 'a 'vlog a year' !

Happy Valentine's Day to my YT Valentine!

    xoxox

  • Your vlog "What We Have Here" is one of my all-time favorite YT videos. Seeing what you went through for a simple vlog gives you a ticket to not vlog as much as you should! :)

    Happy Valentine's Day!

  • re the high quality, I now only use that for vids shot outdoors that benefit from the higher resolution although I'm still surprised at the file sizes you get.

For my last Lanzarote video I exported it from iMovie at 1280x720, with a 6 minute running length it came out at 81MB

  • Are you exporting as a .mov file or a .mp4? Would you be willing to send me your export settings? You vids are always in great quality. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong!

  • good old style vlog there Gary.

I can see what you mean about having your heart on your sleeve on the old vids, it's one thing to open up and know the video will likely only be seen or commented on by 10 or 20 people, when that changes to a few hundred understandably you will feel a bit more vulnerable opening up.

  • I remember when it was a big deal that a video got 50 views (probably half of them being my own!), so it was kind of like sharing my ideas with a small group. As time went on and the group got bigger, yeah, my comfort to share those things has dwindled. I hope to somehow change all that. We'll see.

  • Vlog a day challenge? LOL...uh, Gary...I haven't made one in 2 months. Guess it's time to get back on it, hmm? Time to learn how to use Sony Vegas...

    Sandi

  • Yes! Do it! :)

  • pice of crap youtube quit eating my comments

  • YouTube has gone down the drain in the last two years. No one watches anyone for fun anymore. They just watch the usual stuff they're subscribed to, or the features/promos. I used to pick up a new subscriber every week, now my views have dwindled to next to nothing as the great bulk of my subscriber base doesn't even log in anymore. It was fun while it lasted, but it's never going to be the same.

  • I think the changes happened once the site really exploded. I know I got more views and comments a year ago than I do now, even though my sub base is over double the size. A lot of people are saying the same thing.

  • Some of us are still here Gary, but as you know, school, work, family, etc... take up time.

I'm glad that you're keeping up with LOST. I had to work' and missed the broadcast and your blog. :0( You do make a good point about the Vlogers evolving and changing their styles. I think it's natural and healthy to grow, and explore new avenues. It's a larger view of the

    "force" Anakin.

  • That's part of why I don't make videos as much anymore either. My life outside the net just gets busier with more and more responsibility. I still have to make my lost video for this week, btw!

  • Gary, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make a vlog a day, but It's a great idea to reinvigorate the site; it does need shaken up a little. As to myself, the videos I make are of pretty poor picture quality mostly and are unscripted, I just have an idea and go with it. Yeah, I really know how to sell my channel don't I? lol. But at least it's for real and despite what you say, so are yours. You're still the same guy you always were with some wonderful videos, and i'm sure more to come.

  • Thank you so much Tam! I know that my channel has evolved, but to me, the heart of what made me "me" hasn't changed at all. I think I just want to get people motivated again, 'cuz I love this place, this hobby, and these friends too much to let it all slide away due to apathy! :)

  • maybe that's why famous people have a wall up around them? Glad to see you kicking it old school. You have a gift.

    To keep going. Nice work.

  • Coming from somebody as multi-talented as you, that compliment is HUGE. Thank you my friend!

I think this wall you're talking about makes sense. I kind of compare the makeup some of these popular/famous YT girls wear as symbolic of what their videos have become....covering up all the blemishes and being nicer to look at to please more people.

  • I don't care about the hair. Just make sure there's no boogers. :)

  • Yeah, that's a given! LOL

  • hmm a challenge for a vlog a day eh...

  • I'm just happy you're making videos again! :)

  • the thread was so cool, I forgot what I was going to say, lol , ooops :)

  • It's okay. 12 minutes is a lot to process!

  • your articulating stamina is quite impressive..

  • Wow. Thank you! :)

  • Welcome back, Gary! You know I've always enjoyed your spontaneosf vlogs and I well remember those days when you wore your heart on your sleeve. Of all the tubers I've known, you impress me the most, for your intellect and generous humanity, a return to more of the raw unpolished Gary is way cool with me!

  • Thanks Darl! My channel will probably be a combination of the older way of doing things with the newer way my videos have evolved into as well. I like keeping things exciting and new and always ant to push myself, but sometimes the main ingredient here is simply communication. THANK YOU for your generous comment! :)

  • i think you should clal your New Channel Toss Salad with Ginger!

  • Um...that sounds very dirty! LOLOL

I will PM you the link.

  • bwhahaha, I guess that does sound like a porn title, sorry, lol :)

  • I'm not sure what's worse...the title, or the fact we both know what it means!

  • **is not laughing** have no idea, of what you speak, *cough*

  • Riiight! LOL

  • i hear funny sounds when u talk of this

    * BOM CHICA WOW WOW* does that mean anything, lol? 0-o

  • LOL!

  • :-)

  • hey hey hey, it could be true!

  • LOL

  • Gary you have completely made my day, and that is saying a lot coming from a single guy on the big VeeDay. Whyever I missed these 12 minute videos so much I will never know but it just felt so much more real then Youtube seems to be now. When I am sitting down to watch a video the last thing I want is television, that is why Youtube is my destination - I want reality, intelligent discussion, and communication...and I do suppose I am one of a dieing breed.

  • Ever since the google takeover (which was still a plus in my score column in spite of the change) it seemed to me like people stopped looking at Youtube as a site started by vloggers who wanted to do nothing more then share party videos with eachother, and it turned into a corporate attitude with employees and ranks. I don't know about the rest of the site, but one of my favorite things about Youtube was that it was an escape from the cubicle life I was in back then.

  • I really don't think you are a dying breed, that's the thing. So many of us have a need for this, but seemed to have gotten sidetracked along the way, myself included. Now keep in mind, the medium is evolving. It is getting harder and harder for me to do the old fashioned heart on my sleeve vlogs as my "audience" grows.....But that doesn't mean there aren't other ways to do this. I feel a rekindling for this new medium and frankly, am quite excited for where it's going to take us in 2009!

  • I just love thinking about Evolution as a relative process.

btw I did some hard thinking over the past week or so and I really understand now what has happened to Youtube, and I realize that a lot of it has to do with my changing perspective. I may of never understood it had you not sent me those messages the other day or made this video today. Thanks for taking the time to be a friend and set me straight. It means a lot to me :)

  • Well, I think to a certain extent, my comment to you the other day spawned this video. The community is alive and well, but it is changing very much. It sucks that we are getting cast aside due to YT wanting to be more corporate. It's impossible NOT to notice that...but the friendships have definitely grown. I just think a lot of them have moved outside of YT over to other sites and IRL. It's actually a very exciting thing if you ask me! :)

  • Yeah, I guess I just need to catch up

  • It's just a natural growth in how we all use these exciting new mediums, that's all.

  • A vlog a day keeps the doctor away =]

  • I hope so! LOL

  • I like your views on what to vlog about now versus in the beginning...

  • So much has changed, how can we not vlog about different things?

  • CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!

  • :-)

  • For me, Twitter has totally changed things. Awesome that it allows me to keep in instant contact with the people I want to, but I'm starting to get 'where are you?' channel comments.

With the change in your style, use the Lost analogy. People started watching a show about survivors on a desert island, and now the effing island disappears?! Some people will embrace the change, some will walk away. Doesn't mean the change shouldn't take place.

I've loved Kiwi's daily vlog experiment.

  • Twitter has almost created a type of telepathy amongst certain online community. The other day I knew right when somebody lost their job and when another friend had a baby. I mean, just amazing how the word gets out.

And I like your analogy. I've never made a blatant attempt at changing my style. I go back and watch some of my older videos, though, and can't imagine talking about those things now. It's not that I've changed, but the size of my audience has.

  • It's almost like the idea that you'd tell very different stories to a group of 4 friends vs. a roomful of people. How could you not? Great comment!

  • Yeah, I'm kind of liking that people are using their real names on FB too. That adds an extra layer to it as well, but I think people are respecting that it's a different medium. For example, there are a bunch of people I'm subbed to & comment with on YT who I haven't connected with IRL, so I leave them alone when I see them on FB.

  • Well, I'm glad you and I connected on FB, even though we haven't met IRL. Have we?

  • Does standing in the bushes looking through your window count?

The criteria for me with FB is people I've interacted with a lot, not necessarily actually met face to face, so my little Stickam clique are all there, and you as well. I just take it as read that we'll all meet at some stage, so why worry about what order the rest of it happens in?

  • *shivers* Must I remind of you a certain other stalker? LOL

And yeah, that's a good way to look at it. There's a few of my friends out there, like yourself, where I really have to think long and hard if we've met in person or not. I suppose a 4 or 5 skype conversation will blur those lines of "IRL" vs. "internet friend." :)

  • Yeah, but Ralf will get bored after a while and move on. ;DDDD

When I was composing the previous comment, I thought you were the only FB friend I hadn't met IRL, then I remembered those guys. Exactly the case in point - I've only met one of six IRL, but it doesn't feel that way.

It has been FAR too long since I've been in the States. This summer it'll have been 5 years. I hope new work leads will fix that big time.

  • I think these newfound way of communication of skype, twitter, youtube, and facebook are a new way for our society to communicate and meet without ever having met face to face, but the friendships are not any less real. With any of my close YT friends who I've met in person, taking the relationship outside of the restraints of the computer has only been more fulfilling, but the relationship was already there. It's a wonderful way to spread friendship, knowledge, art, and news.

  • Friendship, knowledge, art & news? Dammit! I was hoping it was a good way to meet girls! *sigh* ;D

Yeah, I totally agree. The transition from online friend to real life one has been incredibly natural when I've met people IRL. Probably more strongly because of that background knowlege of eachother. On the other hand, I've met people IRL who have gone on to become online friends afterwards. It's definitely a fluid process.

  • I've got a couple really good friends that I've known IRL first. Because of one instance or another, distance has kept us apart physically, but thanks to the internet, the friendships have flourished where they otherwise would have probably died or wilted away. To me, that's one in the same really as meeting somebody online right away. Isn't it all just about connecting, sharing, and empathizing with each other other, regardless of how you met?

  • I totally agree. Because I moved around so much growing up, I have old friends scattered to the four winds, most of whom I've lost contact with over the years. FB especially has made a huge difference to that. People _really_ have been coming out of the woodwork, and it means you can keep more casually in touch, knowing they're a profile click away if you're thinking of them.

  • Isn't that simply amazing when you think about it? Think how many friendships have dwindled away before all of this? Of course, I have friends who haven't jumped on this technology and I feel like I'm losing touch with them more and more each year.

  • Yeah, that's a really interesting point and it goes back to our old debate about RL vs Net, where the Net people used to be the socially isolated weird ones, but now turn out to be the ones that are plugged in to all sorts of activities (the trick being to get off the couch & go to them).

The recent Berlin YT Secret Talent night was a good example where the nerdy guests get treated like rock stars. I guess it all comes down to who is doing the organising.

  • That''s the thing, all of us on YT are geeks to some extent. But the pendulum where geeks and tech changed about a decade ago when we switched to a technology based society vs. an industrial one. Look at Bill Gates. Uber geek, wealthiest man alive. It's the I.T. geek in the office who now has the most power. Very interesting indeed!

  • I think that's sort of the transition they had where 300 yrs ago, being a musician meant you were a poverty stricken itinerant, little better socially than a beggar. The advent of recording changed all that. We may be seeing the same thing here as society's values shift. It also may be a long way off yet.

I liked an observation by Meekakitty where it suddenly clicked that on YT, "We're all theatre people". People who wouldn't have been in the school play suddenly performing on a world stage.

  • It's a really interesting concept. I had somebody tell me how I have so much talent here on YT. And I always think, for what? For blabbing non-stop? That's a talent now? And funny how in my non-YT life, nobody sees that side of me at all. Ppl on YT think I can act, and sing and dance and do all this stuff. I'm just a schmuck! LOL

  • Which people on YT think you can act, sing and dance? Which videos have _they_ been watching?! ;DDD

I'm always amazed at how you can form complex ideas into a single take monologue. I trip over my thoughts all the time when doing that.

I think the RL manifestation is where you're "a funny guy" or "great with kids", both of which require a massive element of theatre in a socially acceptable constraint. After all, there isn't much difference between peek-a-boo and Shakespeare.

  • Ha ha! Good point. It always amazes me that so many people have a problem doing the single take videos. I guess it's a skill I take for granted. Not even sure how I got it. I always just passed it off as me being a motor mouth!

And really YT isn't that far from peak-a-boo either, is it?

Of course, my better vlogs, this one included, get a lot more discussion than what the current crop of peek-a-boob babes seem to get on their videos. :D

  • LOL! That's because no-one wants to leave evidence that they've been watching that sort of video. Plus it's hard to type one handed.

LOL! The main difference is that the peek-a-boo audiences are more mature.

  • And really, what other comments can one leave other than "You're hot?" They certainly don't have to worry about leaving those comments on my videos! LOL

  • For that matter, where is the difference between a 10 minute vlog without making a mistake, and delivering Hamlet's soliloquy?

  • But here's the kicker: I can't memorize anything to save my life. I just did a collab for somebody where I had to do 3 paragraphs of text. i couldn't do it without chopping it up. I just had a nightmare last night that I was doing a show with ChristpherMast in Disney, and he had all this script for me to memorize and I couldn't do it. I can't recite something that's not mine...it doesn't come from the heart!

  • Hmm - interesting kryptonite you have there. Maybe that's why people go in for 'method acting', where turning themselves into the character makes it easier for them to stand there and say their lines.

  • Very interesting point! I wonder, of course, could i do a vlog on a subject live, if I had too, off the top of my head, to a group of friends watching me IRL?

  • That's called 'public speaking'! And yes, I've wondered the same thing.

I remember Dinzla early on in her YT time saying she had to do a class presentation to camera for Uni and her friends couldn't figure out how this quiet girl could give such a professional performance.

To be honest, I think you probably could. Self confidence is a big factor in that sort of thing.

  • Yeah...i suppose it is. But don't you think there's a real passive aggressive element to making YT videos? It's one thing to do and say these things to a web cam in the privacy of your own home. It's interesting, thats' for sure. And I've had to do no public speaking since I started on YT.

  • LOL! I just looked up the textbook definition of passive-agressive to frame my answer correctly, & I realised I tick a LOT of those boxes!! Eep!

I don't see it as any more of a problem than someone venting their feelings in a diary. In many ways, less so because a diary doesn't give feedback. A problem aired here instantly falls into the crucible of the public arena. How many times has the response to a vlog coloured your eventual reaction to the situation compared to your natural response?

  • Very good point. I think the actual action of making videos is passive-aggressive, because we make the video and then wait for the feedback., much like a blog. Yes, we put it out there in the public eye, but a lot of ppl you see make videos are quiet little mice in public. It's downright amazing some of the ppl who stir drama and muckrake and you meet them in real life and they are timid as hell. I have NO respect for ppl like that!

  • Ah, I see your point that putting a problem out there is the opposite of taking responsibility for it. I've never looked at it from that point of view before.

Oh, manufactured drama people are VERY low on my tolerance scale. I just don't have them in my life. I learnt to spot them early on & just refuse to buy into their crap.

  • Me too. And when i met one of them at a gathering last year, I made a point of really being friendly to them, but also letting them know that that kind of stuff is what destroys a community. I had a few drinks in me by that point and i really pour on the friendliness. it was interesting to see this muckraker squirm! LOL

  • LOL! I'd have been kicking back with my feet up pretending to talk to someone else, but secretly listening in and stifling the laughter!

  • It was fun knowing exactly how i was working that situation and I took pride knowing how little power that person actually has! It was quite liberating!

  • Very few people have any real power beyond words, even more so online. What are they going to do? Fire you? Throw a punch? It's good to see people like that IRL.

  • It was actually quite fun making this person squirm. A lot of ppl realized what a mouse this person was. If you can't walk the walk don't talk the talk! LOL

  • YES! Low and medium quality is my friend. Less pixels is my "Pearl Cream".

    I'm all over this.

  • It's why so many of the stars hate hi-def! I saw Faith Hill on a hi-def tv once and it just looked like she fell into a vat of Mary Kay cosmetics!

Seriously though, what's the point of these HUGE uploads and processing times for videos that nobody watches after 3 days?

  • I guess that explains why a lot of people have not been vlogging much lately. So many levels to communicate now. So I guess the question is - do you vlog to make friends - or is vlogging an end in itself. And if the latter, shouldnt one vlog regardless of the other sites? Maybe this was naïve of me - but I thought vloggers will be vloggers - even though no one is really watching - though of course that would be nice.

  • Regarding the holiday, like most holidays - VD is just a commercial holiday based on pagan ritual clouded in religion. Bah humbug back atcha :)

  • Thank you! The more I realize how much all of these holidays are just marketing opportunities, the more i just shut myself off to them!

  • Valentine's Day , It was created by a consortium of Ginger people, who thought red should be more appreciated! ginger=red-love

See yet another conspiracy unveiled! HA!

VD is ,I assume, when you thought a date went REALLY well, but later bites you in the ass! :D

** i should not be allowed 2 comment**

  • And ironically, gingers look horrible in red!

  • I think it is a misnomer, just like most black people are brown: but hey who doesn't look good in black, huh? Its kinda funny with so many shades in spectrum, the colors we get stuck in; of course, I wouldn't like to be called burnt Sienna * one of my fav crayons...

  • I think the only true "redheads" out there might be the icon to "Wendy's" and "Raggedy Ann and Andy." And maybe Woody Woodpecker! :)

  • When I started vlogging, I had no idea anybody else was out there doing it. Once i found other people like me, the friendships followed. For me, the friendships are an amazing outcome of the medium, but I'd really have to say that the friendships are secondary to the vlogging. I'll be journaling my life in one way or another, despite the audience or group of followers.

  • I only watch you for your video quality, lol. :P ;)

Wow, I know more about you that most of the friends I have known for 8-10 years. That's a good thing, right? *ruffles your hair*

  • Now it's REALLY messed up!!

It is funny how a few of us who have known each other for just a couple of years really know A LOT about each other. It goes to show how these friendships are as real and valid as our daily face-to-face ones.

  • You're so cute with bed head.

  • Thanks Shannon! Happy Valentines Day!

  • I think you've nailed why most of the big YouTubers from '06 and '07 have dwindled or altogether disappeared.

It's not from a lack of subject matter for videos, it's a lack of comfort and connection. Warmth slowly drains out of them as the months go by.

For example, a real-world relationship will snuff a YouTube channel every time. Human contact trumps all. :)

I'm thinking you and Anthrovlog should do a documentary about this. Assuming she hasn't already.

  • That's part of it for me is that I prefer to spend more of my time cultivating the friendships that have entered my "real life" than trying to get new subscribers which to me, isn't as fulfilling as some people claim it is.

    Great comment!

  • Check my 12seconds channel to see what I got for V-Day. :P

  • Dude. That really sucks!

  • Yes. yes it does.

  • How much did they sock you for?

  • I don't know yet.

  • Damn!

  • Fuck the police!

  • OK, Eazy Mother Fuckin' E :P

  • the lost/blogtv sessions have been great...i think i'll try the vlog-a-day thing...maybe it will kickstart my vid making....great vlog...keep'em comin'...

  • Thanks man! I appreciate it. The Lost blogTV thing has been a lot of fun for me! It's really given me a new audience and I've made some great new friends! I'm glad we have that nice group of 10-20 ppl in there who are all really into it!

  • Good Vlog... Is this going to be a VEDFAW or are you planning on going more than a week?

I guess I need to get my act together and make a vlog. I don't even have a video on my new channel.

  • For now we'll see how I do with 7 days in a row. it doesn't sound like a lot, but then suddenly a busy work week gets in the way, so we'll see! It's a good test to say the least!

  • Great vlog & a great idea.

I saw that same video by 'mickmusing' & really enjoyed it. Also a video by Michelle 'anythingsarcastic' really hit home with me as well. Not planning a video, or talking about anything specific. But, i really enjoyed both videos.

I'm going to give this a go as well.

    OK, Let's vlog :)

  • I'd love to do a parody of "Vogue" by madonna called "Vlog." LOL

I think we all are taking this wonderful medium for granted and a lot of it is pure laziness lately!

I have to check out Michelle's video.

  • Love that Madonna idea. Hmm...

As you know, i've been pretty consistent in my uploading. But, i've still had a certain amount of apathy kick in.

I think that has a lot to do with the amount of videos, or lack of, being uploaded. At least your idea should cure that! :)

  • THAT seems like a lot of work! LOL

I just hope we don't all OVER do it! I think the idea is to vlog more but for not as long! (Although I can't believe how quickly the 12 minutes went by when recording this!)

  • A vlog should never be forced. it would never be as good.

I've often felt that i could record a vlog a day. Now is the cahnce to prove it, i guess.

Let's hope the quality stands up.

    Now where's my notebook? ;)

  • That will be the trick, trying to find 1 thing a day that's worth talking about. But really, with all the current events, the state of the world, politics, etc. it won't be that hard nor forced.

  • I haven't been vlogging as much lately either. I think I might try this vlog a day thing.

  • I think we all need a jump start here in year 2 or 3!

  • Wow! I can't believe I'm on my second year! I made my first video in December 2007, I think. It really doesn't seem like it's been that long. I can't believe it's been over 4 months since ST2.

  • Yeah...this is the beginning of my 3rd year, although i had a few earlier ones that stemmed from the end of 2006....I've been doing this almost 2.5 years!

  • Birds?? You have BIRDS there right now??!

    8-O

    I never shovel my sidewalk.

    *ducks*

  • I ended up procrastinating long enough that I didn't need to shovel! LOL

  • YES YES YES vlog a day keeps the doctor away! trust me!

  • I think it's a good way to keep our heads clear, and I know this will make Ralf happy! :)

  • haha it definitely will! and yes, vlogging each day DOES feel deliberating somehow. when you push yourself to at least do a one minute single take thing (i never actually managed to make one that short lol) it's a nice way of sharing and documenting things from your life, you know?

like when i started doing that on my other channel, i was SO frustrated with my main one, with the lack of ideas etc. ... but that was just what i needed i think. i just hope youtube gets their shit together ..

  • Yeah, YT really needs to get things straightened out. This took WAY too long to process. That's always part of my frustration, dealing with their shit. I think the other thing I need to figure out is how to do this as often as I want, but have a nice balance with the rest of my life. I don't want to this consume things.

  • ...because right now, i'm so not in the mood to deal with hours of uploading and then hours and hours and HOURS of processing. also, why bother saving videos for HQ if the links dont appear. it's utter bullshit, and its frustrating, and i already miss the daily vlogging, i seriously do. so i say YES, do it! definitely!

  • I made a video the other night that never rendered as HQ. Why did i render and upload a few hundred megabyte file then? That's definitely the part that is frustrating. They have no idea what we want, but yet, i don't think they care anymore! I have to admit that I really missed straight out vlogging!

  • yep, exactly! it's like, why even bother, right? rendering for HQ takes long, uploading too, and then that? yeah no thanks. posting a video shouldn't be the most difficult part about it, but thanks to youtube, it is right now.

  • And then the HQ videos play very choppy! And I have a fast computer. It's just not worth it to me for a video that will be yesterday's new tomorrow!

  • yep yep yep. i'm so recording a response right now. hooray! ;D

  • YAY!!! This only took 2 hours to process after the first one was still processing after FIVE HOURS! A word of advice, upload one normal and then do the other one with a slightly different file name and upload it as private right after. My private one uploaded, the public one never did after 5 hours!

  • Hmmmmm we'll see. i've had no problems yesterday, but the video before that took 7 frikken hours! geez!

i'll try .wmv today, we'll see how that goes haha

    rendering right now. woot!

  • I thought you were on a Mac? Or do you have multiple computers? I've never had any luck rendering things in .wmv.
