@md991free As the guy said in the movie, maybe it won't be possible for Cuba to be like China. The country is too small, too poor in natural resources, too vulnerable to external influences... If think they would be more successful with an "Asian Tiger" model. The conditions are similar: a highly skilled and cheap labour force coordinated by a strong government. Maybe they would become a western South Korea or Taiwan.

The thing is, there is a possibility that Cuba could embrace a China-style economy with a Castro still in power. Raul has expressed a desire to create an economic system similar to that of China and he will probably take strides to enact that at the Communist Party Congress in April.

The most valuable piece of lands are owned by foreign firms that have built hotels and other resorts for rich tourists.
For the rest, I am sure some deal-sharing can be arranged with the regular people that would be favorable to all parties. keep in mind that once the markets open up in Cuba money will start flowing like a river.

The fact is: Cuba is one of the best countries in Latin America. But it already was before Castro, and it did not go much better or worse than Chile, Costa Rica, Argentina, Puerto Rico.

Don't believe that there are "wealthy" Cubans in Miami or anywhere else in the U.S. If they are so wealthy, what are they doing here? They should be back in Cuba making their country a better place to live. Most all Cubans here in the U.S. are here because they fled after the revolutionists and Fidel Castro took everything from them. They all came in boats seeking refuge. Cuba is the pits, NO HOPE, just communism. Fidel Castro already planned this out. His family will continue his legacy.

Cubans may have lost everything but they were educated and talented people and came here with nothing after being expropriated of their belongings however, many many of them rebuilt their wealth here. Google Cuban Americans and you will see that Cubans are the most successful Spanish speaking group in the US. I am sick and tired of all these commentaries from people who know very little about Cubans, their history and achievements.

The people of Tunisia and Egypt have successfully thrown out their once destructive dictators. What's worse in Cuba is that most Cubans stand by dictator Fidel Castro. U.S. will never lift the embargo under the Castro Cummunist regime. My friend was just there and he saw poverty everywhere. Hospitals, schools and people live in sub-standard conditions.

he provided 40 % of the help to Haiti but the Cuban people does not have anything. Who help our people?? the ones that have to go to other countries, and when we go back there the government treat us like like dogs. You should try to leave in Cuba for a month an then tell me if it is fair to give 40 % to Haiti. And i was wandering who gave the rest of the help to Haiti.... the hungry dogs i assure.

You can also thank Fidel for sending 9 tons of medicine to Colombia while Cuban pharmacies have no medicines for Cubans. The saddest part of all of this is that he does not care about Haitians or Colombians the help is part of his propaganda so he can seem like a good person; a good person would take care of his country first but then again Castro was never a Cuban but a traitor of the Revolution

I was taught in school that the poor were eager for castro but the comfortable middle class were upset because they lost their status quo.. as in, the stuff that made them higher than the poor, assets.. w/e (CXC Caribbean history)

Capitalism and foreign imperialism deprived the island of its resources. The States tried strenuously to oust the Castro regime because they would lose their mines/companies/plantations. The rich/middle-class are upset;they had the amenities that 90% of the island didn't. In pre-revolution Cuba, the proletarian didn't havemedical centers nor scholastic facilities. They may not be the wealthiest country, but they bear intelligence and preservation. Marxism has paved the way for them.

@md991free As the guy said in the movie, maybe it won't be possible for Cuba to be like China. The country is too small, too poor in natural resources, too vulnerable to external influences... If think they would be more successful with an "Asian Tiger" model. The conditions are similar: a highly skilled and cheap labour force coordinated by a strong government. Maybe they would become a western South Korea or Taiwan.

The thing is, there is a possibility that Cuba could embrace a China-style economy with a Castro still in power. Raul has expressed a desire to create an economic system similar to that of China and he will probably take strides to enact that at the Communist Party Congress in April.

@wolf2007100 Most of the Cuban families that owned lands in Cuba are very wealthy in Miami. They belong to the first wave of elite Cubans that left in the 60's.
The most valuable piece of lands are owned by foreign firms that have built hotels and other resorts for rich tourists.
For the rest, I am sure some deal-sharing can be arranged with the regular people that would be favorable to all parties. keep in mind that once the markets open up in Cuba money will start flowing like a river.
