  • Gardening on Christmas day; just can't get enough huh? Love it! Can't wait until all that snow has melted.

  • @YourGardenShow thx. the snow melted and i just planted mesclun unundin my colf frame. more fun stuff on the site.

  • experiment hahahaha is that another word for being a bit lazy. put leaves from your trees on your beds before covering and the worms love it and your soil will be loads better too

  • leaves are great for all kinds of stuff in the garden. and i'm not lazy, i just have too many jobs and not enough time.

  • Thank you.... I have big plans this year... I'm putting your knowledge to use : )

And the dogs are cute as always. Makes me wish my black lab had a buddy. (if only my house was bigger!)

  • great. you might like all the stuff we have on our site if you like. eric.

  • you must read a lot of books thats good

  • cute dogs

  • Have you listened to the hive recently? How are they doing? Are they buzzing?

  • both hives were ok last week, but its is now 9 F outside, wondering how they are.

  • Wouldnt one of these weed suppressant membranes be better? It is also black but it is perforated and lets the water trough when the snow melts or it rains in early spring. If you put something that does not let water trough, you create a dry warm island underneath it. And by the way LOLOLOL organic rocks?

  • you could use a weed membrane, but i don't think it has the heat capturing ability of the plastic. plus the weed membranes wear out quickly, i think.

and organic rocks taste best in soup...

  • Parsnips too ! Pull them out as you need them.......saw 2 dogs at the local leash free park like yours....its so neat to be home in Canada and meeting all of these "loved" and cared for dogs locally. My own rescue dogs are adjusting to the new "social life" here for canines after being so isolated on the prairies. Happy New Year you guys !

  • yes, parsnips are very winter hardy, i'm just not a big fan of them. good to you and your dogs.

  • Five Stars!!

  • You should put the cold-frame up and just let it sit through the winter. Then each time your back, check the temperature under the cold-frame and temperature under the black plastic. Just call it an experiment and go with it! I bet the cold-frame will heat up the area under it and you can start growing veggies much sooner. If you believe the black plastic is better, Then take me up on the bet, one of us will have bragging rights atleast.

  • ok. its 9 degrees F right now, if you want to come over and set up the cold frame, we'll do it. that's a good idea, i'll set it up when it warms up a bit.

  • @erochow I'll pass on the 9 degree weather. I'm in Mobile, Al. We freakout when it gets below freezing and stays there for more than half a day. Heaven forbid it snows.
