Yeah, I remember asking lots of people about that, why only the ladies wear the cap. The answer i got was that it was an old tradition and supposed to symbolise that upon graduating, that was it, it was to cap your education. That maybe the men would go on to do more but for the women that was it. Done. Pretty sexist and I'm not sure it's actually true.
Apparently it's officially optional for men and women, but on the day all the women were given one and none of the men were. Strange.
