  • what toaster did you use to film this?

  • how do you get all your loops i do not get them all what i start

  • is it just me, or does he have a weird accent?

  • Which version of iLife is it?

  • well, how do I record my own music that i wrote on legit instruments? im sorry but this didn't help much.

  • y did u recotd this with a toaster......

  • Having an issue, i recorded my song, drums/guitars and all, sounds great, but once its exported as an mp3 the overall sound volume decreases. help appreciated. (Tried adjusting master and track volume already.)

  • @bubblehearth11 same here my solution is to make it a recording with the recording device on the computer, and import it to itunes, once in itunes go click on it go to get info>options> set volume 100% and record it again with the recording device on the computer. temporary and time consuming solution, but so far its working fine.

  • Love the video man it is helping alot with this new mac...hope u do some more.u explain everything prety good

  • Music technology expert...? He didn't even know how to open musical typing. I am not a Mac user, still, I know that

  • @heylalla2 how DO you open musical typing? need to know

  • Hey, technology expert. How 'bout investing in a tripod for your cameraman?!

  • so garageband dont work for windows?

  • so garage band only offers pre made tunes? i cant for example try to build a tune thats in my head?

  • @ratatabatata Try "Linux MultiMedia Studio" it's free ... I run it in Linux Mint, and Linux Ubuntu I don't use Windows , or Mac because Linux does everything I need. Plus I have Blender3D, MyPaint, and Gimp in Linux all great and free .

  • @ratatabatata you can the same way you record in any other program. for some reason whenever people explain garageband they like to show you what to do with sounds already in it. stupid, yes i know, but yes, you can reocrd your own stuff.

  • Anybody notice at 1:54 the "this is what I do, I sit on you,"? that was the first thing I thought of lol.

  • Can GarageBand "listen" to my mp3 files of classical music and write it down on sheets?

  • Free energy is finaly here! But the big oil corporations don't want that technology revealed,if you want a real Free energy Magnet Motor, get the blueprints at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the revolution!

  • Personally, I prefer the FL Studio format better. It seems to be more user-friendly, and the piano roll is unbeatable.

You can see some of my work at my channel if you're interested. :)

    Nice work.

  • @ScottDillardHall piano roll is a piano roll guy. garageband has one, too. and...using audio regions in a daw is harder cause it gives more power ^^

  • im trying to digitally record a video with my mac can i do that? i have my keyboard hooked up via usb but i want a video to go along with it so the sound quality is better

  • "Music Technology expert"?

GB doesn't suck, but this guy does.

  • Comment removed

  • Is this technology one of the reasons today's music sucks so badly?

  • Does anyone know how to get an acoustic sound out of an electric guitar that is plugged into my Mac using garageband?

  • This Was Really Helpful, Thanks For Making This Video!

  • Great vid very helpful.

  • a very strange way to compose music. The 'musician' did not actually play any music once.....just put bits of pre-made stuff here and there. Must be good for the home hobbyst, though.

The tutorial is good, no doubts about that

  • Garageband sucks compared to Logic Pro

  • he says ... graj band.

  • jesus, camera guy.... HOLD STILL!

  • he says garage band so stupidly but seriously mac products rule windows sucks f yer

  • they need to have garageband for dummies lol. I don't get it

  • Garageband is fantastic! I think its really useful :).I recently posted two short demo's which i made with garageband, check them out and let me know what you guys think :D

  • acid, by sony, is good too!

  • very helpful(" Thanks

  • Hey i made this song on GARAGEBAND tell me what you think about it. All the lyrics and beats and singing is me

  • he was trying to load Musical Typing at 1:25 which for some reason didn't appeared, maybe the version of garageband or the instrument he'd selected but the shortcut for that is 'shift'+'command'+'K'

  • Maybe this will be my new Guitar Rig, but for Mac. You can plug in your guitar apparently.

  • Thanks, that was interesting. And you are SO CUTE! : )

  • check out my playlist of my album i made on garageband, it proves just how much you can do with it, even though it is "limited" of sounds and effects. My album is called "Twelid" it is an instrumental demo, id like ppl to listen to my tracks even though i still have to add the vocals on to them. The playlist is called "Twelid (Demo Version) [Instrumental]" :) if you can't find the playlist on my channel, listen to the songs from "Intro" to "Outro" :)

  • @hennerz93 if you read your comment again from a rappers perspective

    it rhymes lol

  • hmm.... I think I'll stick to logic pro 9 thanks!

  • hey can a mac read WAV and MP3 files...?plz respond...

  • Yes

  • thnx!I will get one and I was wondering...

  • @remo2012 Obviously yes.

  • thanks helped me understand a lot because i just got my mac today

  • thanks, this is a good basic intro. to someone new to mac like me

  • does it have any good vocal effects?

  • i dont have a mac, so are there any other softwares like garage band?

  • ableton live 7le awesome piece of software, also alot more sophisticated

  • yes, there is software that you can buy for your pc or laptop

  • I have heard of one called "audacity."

I was told it is free to download.

  • Audacity is only for recording but it's pretty good considering it's free.

  • audacity sucks

  • yes but my point is, it's free. hardly any free software is good. anyways, I only use it for recording guitar riffs and stuff and putting songs together every now and then and trimming audio files.

  • @RT101894

no it doesn't........ yes compared to programs that are like $300.... but for something that is FREE..... you get loads of power....

also just simply saying saying somethings sucks really shows people how closed your mind is...... In the future you should be a little more intelligent and respectful in your argument... like stating a reason..... being persuasive.... backing yourself up with resources and true facts.......

  • @KaslarProductions I have a very open mind, Im simply stating that Audacity is NOTHING compared to GarageBand.

  • @RT101894 That is very true...... but you are comparing two different things. Audacity isn't trying to be Garageband, they have different functions..... thats like saying Flash sucks compared to After Effects.......

I apologize for implying you are close minded. I don't know you and it's not for me to say..

  • garageband is free too. it COMES with the computer

  • Yeah with a Mac, unfortunately I have a PC. GarageBand and everything else in iLife makes up for part of the price of the Macs.

  • @johnpaul83

    mixcraft 4...

    The Computer People

    Mike Seth

  • should have gotten a screen recorder or something...who ever is recording is really bad at keeping the camera still

  • I'll stick to my tascam products . I think computers ingeneral have takin the pure fun , not to mention the gritty rawness away from recording . I like micing and useing my digital tascam dp-02 . that unit isnt exactly for the novice recorder ,but its simple and has GREAT out come and finish product . fuck this shit and pro tools.fabricate away and rape your music if you'd like buddy .

  • You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

No linear recording platform could ever compete with a program like Garageband. The editing capabilities alone make it vastly superior. It also has thousands of drum loops, keyboards, bass parts etc... ready to roll. And they were all recorded in professional studios with live players. The quality of the loops is simply amazing.

You clearly have never spent any time using GB, so don't knock until you have tried it.

  • Fl Studio.

  • @lbarringer no linear platform? joke? garageband is a dumbed down version of logic. and editing capabilities? ok dude. its GARAGEBAND! they created it to be a free application for dicking around. not to compete with other legitimate DAWs

  • Have you ever used it?

  • yes i have. like i said, its a dumbed down version of logic and was made to be a fun application for dicking around. have you ever used logic? its garageband x about43. and as far as editing capabilities go, dont even get me started on pro tools!

  • @Jokerwithnoise666 haha you dumbshit. you just dont get it. musical capability and a well trained ear are still needed after the tracks are recorded into any DAW. if you arent keeping up with the times thats your deal. dont come dis on other people for being professional.

  • ooooh my god .... mac is the worst thing in the world all apple products are unneccesarily and uncreatively unique...oh my god I can't get over how shitty everything about every mac is ...they require us to use macs in my college and I can't get the stupid piece of thing to stop noting all of my notes in garage band as triplets... I play 32nd notes and it notates em as eighth note triplets...WHAT THE FUCK?! how do I fix it without throwing the piece of shit out the window?!

  • You're an idiot and don't know how to use the program. Mac rules and that is why it is in every high end recording studio in the world.

  • FL Studio.

That's all I have to say.

  • Comment removed

  • wow the camera guy sucks...

  • this software exist only for MAC?

  • yeah

  • wut? garage band is free with the mac i must suck like movie maker sucks on windows whats so good about it wut does it have dat sonar doesnt have??

  • Never compare apple to windows... Apple is the best for multimedia (design, music, video).

  • is there a program like this but for windows???

    please help

  • apparently there is..try session i think its called!

  • something's beeping in the background that's kinda annoying. Nice cross-fade demo and

  • do u need a apple or is it required in a cd/disk form for any brand such as dell to use?

  • it is a mac exclusive program as far as i know

  • U need Mac. The program is free in new Macs. It only work for Mac. :)

  • what were YOU doing on 3/23/06?

  • ur mum

  • what would u recomend a macbook or an imac or a mac air ,, which type of mac would be the best?

  • i prefer iMac

  • mac air is a piece of shit. macbook is a very good computer and so is the imac. between those two you just need to decide which one better suits you. do you need to have it on the go or can it sit at the house? it's just preference

  • i would recommend an imac

  • ooh nvm i figured it out, actually i really like this program. pretty ez

  • Is there a way to make ur own loops on there? im assumin there shud be, but i dono.

  • great vid man u made me get a A+ for my assingment

  • Cool. Thank you.

Question: GB 09 must be much easier? Anyone?

    New to Mac.

    peace.

  • thank you that was very helpful!

i am new to a mac & garageband so u made it easier.

  • that's ridiculously complicated, and in the end, you're just slapping stock samples together that come with it.

    big time lame.

  • exactly man, iv been trying to make my own beats n instrumentals but i don't have a clue how to that shit on GB all i can do is pick out samples

  • but you can record real music...

  • still confused

  • great vid. PC's suck

  • hackers got MAC OS working on PC hows that, not that PC users like to use mac os but to proof that mac os is easy to hack

  • its easy, VMWare google it

  • i use sony acid pro, fruity loops . . .etc

  • Now I'm buying an iMac....... :Y

  • @DerrickBouchard dude just buy fl studio or ableton live

    q base, acid line, etc

  • @Soldatnatio Hahahahaha. I know. That comment was from a year ago. Making electronica, I truly recommend FL 9.

  • @DerrickBouchard yeah it's a good sequencer

but ableton gives you the live hardware output and what not for a more realistic sound with the plug ins

but im still sticking with fl

  • Erm, why not show us how to actualy create our own parts?

  • This guy makes me glad I use Pro Tools 8. Started on Cool Edit Pro 2.1. Countact me if anyone is interested in Cool Edit Pro 2.1 which became Adobe Audition. Enough said I need a nap after this video.

  • idiot

  • and is it free

  • can u get it for windows?

  • nope. mac only

  • Ok.

  • Herb you posted this (part one) over two years ago. Don't you think it's long past overdue to produce part two? More of this and more cooking with Herb!

  • can garageband be used on normal windows xp computer?

  • dont think so but there is powerfull music software for windows too. Jucy Beats or CuBase, Cristal Clear and so on. What you need depends on what you re going to do with the software...

You gt garageband free if you buy a mac. If u want to make professional music u have to buy sotware too.

  • no just for macs =(

  • just for macs!? why?

  • cause macs need more perks! it would be stupid if windows had everything, and then there would be no point to those mac vs. pc commercials and stuff.

  • but..but..but.. that sucks! haha

  • someone might make a mod so you can use this on windows or just use mixcraft its like the windows version of garageband

  • get mixcraft.

  • i´m 2 dumb 4 it! But i bet it would be fun!

  • how do you record vocals over a beat you imported from itunes?

  • How to you remove vocals?

  • thx ill do better

  • wat about micraphone help

  • Track > New track > option 2 > Vocals > No Effect > click the record button at the bottom, start speaking.

When finished speaking press the play button to finish recording. Save

  • I tried using garageband once, and I hated it! This isn't how people make music!

  • key word there is 'once'! the first time i used it i hated it too and then i tried it few more times and now i actually like it.

  • true.. but for goodness sake dont make your entire song using the loop browser

  • only for mac?

  • Yup.

  • how do u take out the beat of a song and use just the lyrics to mash up songs

  • it alot like reaper

  • there's a girl in my art class who's a DJ and she makes remixes that REALLY make me wanna dance. XD but she'll combine two songs with completely different attitudes, so it's weird. but in a 'hey, i KNOW this song' kinda way.

  • not bad at all

  • this is awesome thanks!

  • nerd....but thx really helps

  • look at the description, but if ur too lazy ill copy/paste

Music Technology expert, Herbert Midgley, instructs on how to use Apple's iLife's GarageBand.

  • wtf?!?!? i commented that like a month ago.

    go die(sarcasmface)

  • lol

  • thank yoou it was very helpful...

  • Part Two?

  • gwage band hahahah soo funny

  • better cameraman next time

  • Can anyone tell me why ALL of my songs when transfered to I-Tunes are so quiet?? (I have "auto normalize ticked")..... Thanks

  • ok so i know an imac comes with it but can you download it from a website or something? i miss it, i played it all the time in school but now i cant

  • only works on a mac, and you need the ilife for latest one, so.........

  • hmm seems similar to adobe audition

  • Hey how do u delete pieces you don't need

    ???

  • click on the piece and hold shift down and when click on delete :D

  • STATIONARY CAMERA NEXT TIME!!!! Whoever was operating the camera had a hard on for the zoom button. Geeze. No offense but I don't care what you look like. I just want to see what you're doing on screen. that's the whole purpose of a tutorial.

  • I agree, mrslip. I already know how to use Garage Band and I find it very difficult to watch.

  • Herbert, first off let me say your style is likable. But just like everyone else when it comes to these computers you take too much for granite. I'm 54 years old, thats like 2 in computer years. You got to spell it out otherwise it gets frustrating and I'm short on nerve pills. Reset? Pad? If this is Part 1 I neeeeed to know where these things are. P.S. Did I mention I know absolutely nothing about music? I had trouble turning on my home stereo up until 2001. Anyway Thanks man, Peace Out

  • Reset, Pad, everything is shown in the video.

    Try opening GarageBand and see.
