  • just that moment when she opens the music box and starts with her 'feelings' speech..just makes my day. thanks so much!

  • The way Mama said that line to Ed about taking care of him and the boys and the house. You would think she was actually drunk

  • Aways loved this one, she's a comic genius!

  • Oh, wow... Here I sit in Sweden and feelin' nostalgic. I absolutely loved the Carol Burnettt Show and in particular the character "Eunice"... Great memories. These were the bests!

  • Eunice has serious delusions of grandeur, but i've always sort of felt sorry for her. She was clearly disappointed in life and it was her way of coping by escaping into fantasies of a show biz career.

  • I only saw this once (back in the 70s) but I COMPLETELY remember it... :-)

  • Almost the same quality acting as in "Heros"

  • They're like angry dogs barking at each other. I love it! XD

  • This was featured in a vhs release back in the late eighties called Carol

    Burnett's personal best.

  • Damn me but I always thought Vicki Lawrence was really hot.

  • thanks for the info regarding yes joanne woodward, thinking now the character's name had been midge gibson, haha i remember mama using it less than kindly

  • anyone have the one where eunice has an old friend from high school visit and theyve been to the bigger jigger? she leaves telling eunice shes sorry she has to stay- ed and mama back down in the end and go in to the kitchen to make dinner, leaving eunice to stew in here despair

  • @youdogkevin that was Joanne Woodward who was in that.

  • It's funny EUnice's house looks more like Mama's from Mama's Family.

  • I remember that episode, it was Joanne Woodward..it was up previously somewhere a couple of years ago, but they must have taken it down...sucks

  • Please post the episode w/ Eunice's racey friend from high school who get her buzzed and takes her to the museum and then comes back to Mama & Ed.

  • If Vickie was pregnant during the taping of this show, why then is she drinking beer?

  • It's a TV show! I highly doubt that they drink actual alcohol ... Television is all illusions and make belief you know... can't believe I actually have to spell it out...sheesh...

  • @roosevelthighschool like cheers, its nearbeer....not real beer. But also I'm not sure if Vickie was preggers at the time? but I could be wrong.

  • @CrazyMateo - From what I've read, Ms. Lawrence wore body padding to make her "Mama" character appear heavier. But she could've been pregnant with her second child at the time (who was born in July of '77, according to IMDb; while this sketch originally aired in February 1977).

  • @wmbrown6 could be a possibility, and it does look like she has the pregnant walk, when she walks out the kitchen with a beer can she walks like she's pregnant

  • @roosevelthighschool

Well, you know they can substitute drinks in cans and bottles.

There may be water or soda in there instead of the booze. It's a common trick.

  • Love watching this show.

  • Carol is brilliant!

  • When did you ever skip rope with Eula Mae? You two couldn't stand each other!!! LOL

  • Which is the episode where Carol introduces Vicki on the Carol Burnett Show ? Pls help ! I've been dying to see that one !!

  • These skits showed what families are really like.

  • Yep!! This show is BETTER that therapy!!!

  • "Lord Eunice when are you going to come down out of the clouds and quit acting so goofy?" Thank You.

  • Eunice was such an interesting character. She was like a crazed Lucille Ball when it came to performing arts. Amazes me how they all get us to buy into/invest in their characters and situations. Great acting!

  • Does Vicki talk about Harvey Korman's character Ed on her talk show? Thank You.

  • Really?...Cause after a closer look, Vicki Lawrence DOES look pregnant ;)...thanks for sharing.

  • i believe vicki lawrence ended up playing mama, cause she was pregnant and they did it because the dress would hide her stomach..made her look padded...

  • Surely you don't believe that..Vicki Lawrence played mama because she did the part so well. LOL Where do you people get your misinformation?

  • @jester99sch - Furthermore, Carol from the outset saw herself as Eunice, given her own growing up . . . it was also a measure of how Vicki had evolved as a comic actress on the show from her beginnings as Carol's younger sister in the "Carol and Sis" sketches that appeared in the show's first seven years (the last of which was aired one week after the first "Family" sketch with guest Roddy McDowall, in 1974).

  • This is my most favorite scene. Thank You.

  • I sure wish to God I could remember where I read that Carol was to play Mama and Vicki was supposed to play Eunice. Why didn't that happen? Thank You.

  • well vicki talked about that in the first part of the video of the mama's family reunion on her talk show. she was explaining the history of the character mama and how it came about. she said she saw carol say it in an interview of some kind

  • You know, angeloflove, I just saw that one and I don't recall hearing her talk about it. Thank You.

  • she does! i know for a fact

  • @angeloflove - And I seem to recall reading (apparently from Vicki's recollections) that show writers (and "Family" creators) Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon were none too pleased that: a) Carol cast herself as Eunice, b) she cast Vicki as Mama, and c) she made the family into Southern white trash - but positive response to the first sketch ensured that Carol's little embellishments would take hold from then on.

  • P.S. I would also recommend anyone go to the Paley Center for Media in New York, to see a 1971 show on which Rita Hayworth was a guest star. One of the sketches had Carol and Vicki playing loutish celebrity hounds who pester the screen goddess at a restaurant - and Carol was dressed (and bewigged) almost exactly as Eunice (even down to the shoes), preceding the first "Family" sketch by three years.

  • Just think. The same Bob Mackey who made

fabulous gowns also made that godawful

    dress for Eunice.

    Tx 4 posting

  • i love Carol Burnett

  • Wonderful show. Great cast and everything. Thank You.

  • I'm sure those who saw this show when it premiered on TV back in the day can remember where they were and how old they were. Thank You.

  • This has to be the best damn episode in the whole fuckin' series. Thank You and excuse my language.

  • You could have left your language at the door. There was no call for it here

  • Great show and I'm sure those who were alive when it was on can recall back to the days of watching it on TV. Thank You.

  • Fabulous combination of having Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence together. Thank You.

  • Excellent part is where you hear Eunice saying, "sit down sit down sit down" and then you hear Ed copying her. Thank You.

  • Yeah that was classic...

  • I like it when Ed says...Eunice don't read it again...lol

  • carol, carol, carol,,love her she makes me laugh still to this day,,she makes me proud to be from san antonio,,,i live on the southside where she was living with her grandmother when she was little, she was born in san antoni tx,,she went to harlandle high and i went to south san,,,love ya carol

  • I honestly can't think of anyone who plays Mama better than Vicki Lawrence. If anyone can, let me know. Thank You.

  • roosvelthighschool-Did you know originally Carol was to play Mama and Vickie was to play Euince?

  • Yes, pgy002, I remember hearing or reading something about that somewhere. I sure wish to God I could remember where. Thank You.

  • I'd like to see how it would have looked.

  • Lucille Ball was good, but it was Carol Burnett who I identified with and laughed at the most...she was so entertaining with her different skits and characters...So Funny - love Carol

  • love when she gets the bathing suit to "hob knob" around the pool - an American Classic!

  • Memorable show with Vicki Lawrence as Mama. One of my most favorite shows of all time. Thank You.

  • I wish I could find the episode where Eunice sings the song "Feelings". I forget if it's a flashback or if it's at a wedding or something. Thank You.

  • ???? What are you talking about? She sings it here in this video..

  • This is the show that started the whole Mama's Family TV show. I would'nt want it any other way. Thank You.

  • These have to be the most hilarious moments in TV history. Thank You.

  • I was reading somewhere that Carol Burnett was saying that the skits where she plays Eunice reminded her of her own childhood. Thank You.

  • Genius met comedy and Carol Burnett introduced them .I mean GOD bless Lucille Ball , but when GOD wants to really laugh you know GODS watching Carol Burnett.....(or the MARX Brothers)

  • These are my most favorite parts of the whole Carol Burnett Show. I enjoy watching these and I can see why these were made into a TV show all by itself. They're classics! Thank You.

  • You're welcome! :-)

  • I love the part where Eunice says, "sit down, sit down, sit down." And then Ed imitates her and then he finally sits down. Thank You.

  • I love it where Eunice grabs the chip bag from Ed and belts out the chorus of "Feelings." Priceless!

  • OOPS! In your description, you have "Part 1 of 1", but this IS a 2 parter.

  • Hey, thanks for pointing that out. I fixed it. :-D

  • My favorite skit of the Family is the one where they show Eunice as a little girl. I think it's the one where she reads a poem to Mama on Mother's Day.

  • Gosh...I don't ever recall that one. Are you referring to Mama's Family sitcom, or a skit actually on the Carol Burnett Show?

  • I vaguely remember that one. It was a little girl with the exact same hairstyle as Carol.

  • The Eunice skits are priceless.

This one and the Sorry one break me up every time.

    Feelingsssssssssssss

  • "Don't read it again!!"

  • LOVE her speech about she costing him less than a nickle a day - atta girl!!!

  • Whoa, whoa, whoa! Ha!

  • Ed.... What the hell u need with a bathing suit for??? LOLOL!

  • The queen of comedy Carole Burnette! Icon & legend!

  • R.I.P Harvey.

  • I used to love this skit and was excited any time they showed it. I was a little kid when it was broadcast, but I still laughed when Eunice got gonged.

  • You could feel compassion for Eunice sometimes, but not here. She's behaving foolishly and selfishly. She screams at Ed for spending time and money on Mickey Hart, and she blows all that money so she can humiliate herself on the Gong show! She was always delusional, thinking she had talent.

  • Oh, I was looking for this! Yeah!!! Best Carol Burnett skit ever (in my opinion).

  • Eunice and Mama remind me so much of my mother and grandmother.

  • This is one of the reasons I love Carol Burnett so much. She is my favorite comedian. ^_^

    Thanks for posting!

  • I love how Eunice is like

"This comes to a little over 500 dollars..." Like it was nothin' :P

  • I could have sworn that there was a sketch where Mama got hooked on some kind of TV lottery and was buying tickets and following the show all the time and Eunice was getting annoyed with her doing it and trying to get her to stop it. I WISH I could find what I'm thinking of!

  • There is a "Mama's Family" episode dealing with the lottery. Carol Burnett was not on that one, as far as I recall.

  • Carol Burnett only appeared in a handful of Mama's Family episodes but they were all (not surprisingly) hilarious. My favorite is the one where Eunice and Mama wind up in jail together.

  • Devastating- on so many levels.

  • This is a show I would so love to be back on the air. I really enjoy watching Vicki Lawrence as Mama and Carol Burnett as Eunice.

  • This is the Eunice episode I remember above all others. Perfect combination of the humorous and the sad that was a hallmark of these sketches.

  • Here-Here!! (or is that 'hear-hear?!)

  • It's "Hear! Hear!"

  • I love Eunice, but this is probably the saddest Eunice skit ever.

    Thanks, for posting.
