I love when the rail road workers are nice and do stuff like this, CN crews who were working on the tracks offered me a folding chair to sit on while I rail fan, which I turned down due to it would look funny sitting down in the middle of the side walk and recording, Really cool video man
You got lucky they didnt throw something else at you. The CJRR tracks where I live are littered with piss bottles from the trains. The engineer is nice, though, it turns out it's some guy I knew for years and we both had a laugh over it.
I live right by the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision and I've had stuff get thrown to me quite a bit by friends of mine. One day a mainline crew even left a little care package including a vest in backyard for me. And as of late when the BNSF Local 101 goes back to Galesburg on Saturdays after working at Luckey here in town if the crew has to stop and wait for trains they will clear crossing next to my yard and sit and talk to me. I love the BNSF Railroad!!
I remember as a kid about 13 around 1993. Guilford and CP would stop in Mechanicville NY waiting on clearance all the time. I lived a stones throw from the switch they would stop at and go out and conversate with them. Got to hang out in the cab countless times. Even got to ride around moving some cars before.
That was really nice of them. There are a few nice ones out there. I've had one give me a triple toot of the horn. One night while shooting some night pics of a passing train a near by parked train turned on his lights for me.
I thought the days of cool train crews was gone for good. Glad to see the traditions are still going. I used to get candy bars, & sandwiches from the brakeman when the trains still had cabooses on them. That was eons ago in the early 80's when Seaboard was still going strong.
See us rails are not that bad. I used to toss stuff to a kid in Fort Collins Co. He looked to be handicaped and we all thought he was pretty cool. He would be out videoing us at the crack of dawn and would be there even as late as 11 at night. Most rails are pretty cool with fans. Some are fans themselves, just dont call them out on it lol.
Thanks alot. Really? Thats pretty kool. I usually just get a wave and horn salute. I hope to get a cab ride one day. But thats pretty kool man. Thanks for the comment.
I have heard UP are real hard asses. The CPR has no problem with how close I stand to there trains. I guess Canada's rules and regulations are less strict
O yea UP are real hard asses. They seem to be the only railroad that has a problem with railfans. BNSF is not that strict from what I know of and NS is not as strict as UP. That may be the thing but UP can be very strict.
I can't say UP is a bunch of hard asses. I got a cab ride, & the grand tour of the entire yard/shops from Lynn Nystrom, (the UP 3985, & 844 steam guru himself) 2 weeks ago. Great folks at the UP steam shops, That being said, I have no problem with UP. I'll have a video of the steam shop tour, & the cab ride also soon.
why theres sand on train cars?.

Interesting. My Grandpa said that when he was a boy, the engineers would throw him comic books! Not water!

Great video. This is the list of nicest things engineer's have done for me.
1- Cab ride around yard and sorting cars
2- Stopped for red signal, let me go in cab
3- Threw candy at me
4- Shave and a Haircut and conversation
5- CP Rail hat, thrown by my friend Andy
6- Bottle of water from CN and CP trains
