Well you can always blame it on 2 things. Having a back spasm such as I can have at any given time causing your hands to lock up on the breaks. Also bad ridding position as your supposed to be standing above the seat with your butt behind the seat not in front of seat. Great video.
Ouch! I had a crash like that with my hardtail years ago. One thing I've learned: it's better to keep my center of gravity behind the seatpost when I'm going down the trail lol.
i was thinking i could meet up w/ him and you ( dont want to be rude) @ boyette to ride and goof around this weekend. which ever day is better, looks like rain...:(
Actually, no brakes at all. This was before they redid Big Drop. I was very new to MTB, and the sign at the top said "no skidding". So I didn't use my brakes... the rear end hit a giant rock and bucked up. Not much I could do at that point... :-)
wellbig drop has changed a lilsince ur video i think . today was my first time at boyette. like an idiot i pumped down big drop. all good at that point. but now after the drop there is a 7-8 ft roller hill and on the downside it angles to the left. i had so much speed i jumped the hill thinking the trail went straight. and tooka huge fall off the trail.
Lack of experience? Probably... I shouldn't have been on a double black diamond trail! Plus my seat was a tad high, and the rear wheel hit a large rock (which bent the rim) and bounced the rear up, hence the endo.
aha, rocks will do that to ya D: that blows. I guess in person it would look steeper, Im sorry if this comes off as rude, but it doesnt look like that steep of a hill from the video. *shrug* I cant really pass judgement unless I saw it in person.
Definitely not leaning back enough + seat too high for this type of drop. Also, this was my first time riding on a small frame bike, which makes one more likely to endo (obviously! lol)
:-) My big nemisis at Boyette. I ride up to the lip and just look at it every time. One day I keep telling myself. It is about 20-30 feet down at less then 45 degree angle? Not to mention the small step drop with the rock you hit because there is a tree on the left. As if that is not all, you have to turn right with a quick left over a bench cut or you end up in the water. Glad no major injuries. Btw, that is 6 mile walk to parking lot from there.
Those damn rocks and drop-offs have kicked my ass too!

No more fallin down the Big Drop--CLOSED. To risky and the end of the drop was tricky...hard left!

I've done that exact move in that same spot when I hit an armadillo on the way down.. He left a little crater in the dirt and ran off into the woods.

Lean to the rear of the bike, not to the front.
proedgebiker 3 years ago
I remember that drop at boyette it is very steep, I stay on the brakes most of the way down. lean back and drag the rear if you must.
Tbalestrini 3 years ago
pff you were going way too fast/not leaning back enough.. I guess it was lack of experience?

I hope you continue to ride there and the rest of the eastern FL trails. Everyone has had a mistake or two there at Big Drop.

Yeah, I'll still ride at Boyette. I just don't know if I'll ever attempt Big Drop again! :-)Maybe with a full face helmet and some armor on! lol
