50D has a total of 15.5 mp, but effective mp of 15.1. thats off Canon uk website.
IMO a DLSR with video is pointless. Reason? I have 50D and a Powershot SX1. the SX1 has full hd and a zoom range of 28 to 560 (1120mm full hd with 2x extender). to achieve that versatility i would need to carry at 2 lenses, camera and lenses weighing 5 - 6lbs or compact (full)hd thats weights 1lb? and a50D with an 18 - 200mm lens? i take the latter, no lens changing. D90 has 720P HD.

Not against new things at all :) Changing lenses on SLR exposes the sensor and mirror to dust = BAD. Its something you don't want to do too often, especially outdoors. I have a full HD video/stills camera. PS SX1 IS. has focal range of 28 - 1120mm, FULL HD. it weighs 1lbs. I can film an insect from 2 inches away or a plane 3 miles away. no lens change. I am more than happy my 50D only take stills.

Because if it can't be civil, it's not worth it. If it can be, then fine. We haven't picked up the camera yet because we are moving. After we move and don't have to worry about those expenses, then we will buy the T1i and then we will have some video up from it.
