  • The most exhaustive study on ethanol’s EROEI, by Isaias de Carvalho Macedo, shows an alcohol energy return of more than eight units of output for every unit of input—and this study accounts for everything right down to smelting the ore to make the steel for tractors.

  • well for once a i agree with you. Biofuel is more expensive, and pollutes more than oil. Plus we could use food products for a more important purpose, like food. We need an alternative energy source, but not this.

  • Sugar cane and sorghum are the answers. I heard cattails as well can have their starches convertedi into sugars. However, sorghum produces sugary syrup (like sugarcane) that can be use to make ethanol. Bi-products are edible-grain and silage or hay. We can grow sorghum in all of the country and we can grow sugar cane in all of the south, as well as california. Not to mention, Puerto Rico, the virgin islands etc. And maybe cuba can start gowing it and selling it to us.

  • geothermal plant is new technology and way to go... look it up

  • To make one gallon of ethanol. It takes, 1.2 Gallons of Petroleum, 450 pounds of corn, and 1,200 gallons of water. Interesting, and it only gets 1/3 of the energy that Regular gas can supply.

  • Yeah, it's like shooting yourself in the foot while jogging... doesn't make much sense does it. I think solar is truly the answer, but tell that to the oil companies.

  • I think we should invest in the most cheapest and effective way for power. Gas, Nuclear, Wind, Solar, Water ect.

  • there testing nuclear fusion reactors that have no waste or polution unlike fission reactors and they produce alot more electric and its safer and they have a much longer life span compaired to fission every few years they have to replace the uranium/plutonium rods. chernobyl was caused by a flaw. the person who was incharge of builting it rushed it so he could get paid a bonus and they dint insert the sensers into the reactor properly and there was a hotspot that they couldnt see.

  • @xxfisher321xx it takes only 3 gallons of water to make a gallon of ethanol. You were off by 1197 gallons ass.

  • i hope food prices would go up a little so i would conserve food and be in better shape.

  • Excellent video, there's nothing ''green'' about bio-fuels, yet again the poorest people in the World are made to suffer.

  • Brilliant video DD ... very well made !!!! 5 stars

  • DD, this is such a great video. Nothing like the truth to wake people up, right???? 5 stars, shared and playlisted. Thank you so much...

  • Thank you fishmarc.... I am so saddened with the news lately about world hunger and food shortages. This is only part of the reason, but it's a start. What good is fuel for our vehicles if we don't have fuel for our stomachs? Millions upon millions will die in the very near future, and I think this is only the beginning. We should also stop eating meat and raping our planet of it's resources. Everyone should just take a few steps backwards and appreciate what we have, before its gone.

  • Food will have to much poison in it to eat. I am so sad for the next generation...if they survive.

    Good video very informative.

  • bio fuels will work -but the problem is corn is not it , example -the natural ground cover of the american bread basket is SWITCHGRASS-corn produces roughly 440gallons of fuel per acre of land &you get 1 crop a year switchgrass needs to be planted once produces 1150 gallons an acre&can get 2-3 cuttings a year using no extra machines than the hay gathering tools that most farmers already have you will use less farmland for fuel leaving more for food, yeah the solution is rather simple

  • will you ever be dam happy and just forget about it if it is not one thing it is another

  • what do you mean by this comment?

  • (psst....I think that one has eaten way too much felix cat food! LOL)

  • Funny.... and go figure, this person subscribes to me....

  • i mean its eather the athmospire or the dam earths recorces but insted of complaning about this why dont you think more logicly if it means replanting corn all year round then so be it i mean we need the atmosphere to grow so which dam side are you on what next a complant of soler energy !! which god dam recorce do ya wanna use nucler the most hurtful and limited recorce!!! oh and that comment about the cat food its stupid cuz all im supporting is the feix from catslikefelix. com!!

  • If biofuels are so great, why does the gov't have to subsidize it? Good products are sought after, people buy them because they want them. Thanks to the global warming hoax, (oh wait, the moonbats are calling it climate change because it was SO FUCKING COLD THIS YEAR) we can't extract our own oil, we can't build refineries, and the same dumbass liberals blame the oil companies for the high prices.

  • Have you noticed that everything that the Bush administration does makes things worse? I think that is why he was selected. The people behind him have realized that there are too many of us and they are determined to radically reduce the global population. Ironically, after a generation or two those that survive may regard him as a hero, for the planet will be a far more pleasant place with 4/5'ths of us gone. The consistency of bushes destructiveness leads me to no other conclusion.

  • He will go down in history for all the wrong reasons.

Hopefully by the end of this year there will be positive changes made.

  • Yeah...it would be the end of an ERROR !

  • You guys wanna know where most of our grain and water goes?

RAISING ANIMALS FOR SLAUGHTER. Go vegan/vegetarian today and you don't have to contribute to this food shortage! Buy solar panels! Contribute to a better world! =D

  • So true as well, but sometimes it's like banging your head against a wall.

People will get, eventually, but then it will be too late. We are on a doomsday path it seems.

  • Maybe if you stopped banging your head you wouldn't be so fucking stupid.

  • Coming from you...?

  • do you know how solar panels are made? how about at night? use batteries? look up what goes in to rechargable batteries and thier life span....no easy solutions people. we use hydrocarbons for a reason.

  • We are living in the age of lithium-Polymer and our ability to store electricity is very realistic.I'm very familiar with what solar panels are made of and their efficiency and they can easily be made to last.I spent quite a few years living on my 52' yacht with my wife and kids, and had a very reliable, maintenance free, solar charged multi bank electrical system. Via the inverter it produced constant 110v a/c and kept my d/c starting banks charged as well, not to mention the hot water!

  • Lithium alki metal- stripe mining. 6 billion + need the same system. get the picture. Also new imporvide solar panels being made in FABs ( I work in one ) some of the chem we use. HF, H3PO4, HCL, HNO3 and worse. Metals such as copper, gold, tungsten, and...ect. We are good about recycling our chems...not all companes are. again 6 billion+. not looking good. Fabs are huge power consumers...thats not coming from batteries.

  • I'm only familiar with solar efficiency on a personal experience level and from what I've read in the studies done by The University of Arizona. I'm sure it would get a lot more complicated when trying to power industry, but I think it would be relatively easy to develop solar efficient homes and also many certain commercial applications could easily adapt to self sufficient solar applications. This would at least get many off the oil grid and would be cost efficient compared to 10yrs billing.

  • The manufacturing process would improve greatly as demand rises, and we would be much better off putting our remaining fossil fuels into building rather than burning at this stage.

  • OK, granted you are looking long term. It took the US 100+ years to build our current power systems. It also cost trillions of dollars of investment ( not all of it payed for yet). So start small and work big. I still see 100+ years to finish.

  • The real solution is the same thing that gives all life power... THE SUN!!! If we focused more on solar power storage and charging, electric vehicle's would cost NOTHING to run ie: If every roof of every home and business in America were made of solar panels feeding the central power grid, we could all keep electric vehicles charged for free and would never have to pay another electricity bill... Unfortunately that is why it will never happen. Greed beats the environment once again.

    PEACE.

  • You are absolutely correct! The sun is the answer, however that may never happen because of greed / power. It saddens me to think that humankind cannot see beyond this. Life is simple and we've complicated it so much.

The fact that air pollution is so prominent throughout most developed nations - it concerns me that this could not be possible. We can only hope....

  • Yeah, it really bakes my brownie that money can actually come before the survival of our own species ... not to mention all the other species we share our world with. I wonder how they (the elite rulers of mankind) figure that money is going to help them when the planet's destroyed and they're extinct? Oh well... as you say we can only hope.

  • I as an elite ruler will be living the good life untel the end.

  • Iproth... I think you'll be taking it in your end!

  • Have you ever seen the pollution in the developing countries? We have the cleanest air I've ever seen.

  • GREAT JOB DD!!!!!!! Don't forget that they are going to be using animal parts for biofuel as well. What hope is there for this planet? People have to change, period. This is getting so ridiculous that it is hard to take it all in.

  • Enlightening video, Diane! I am quite sure that a solution already exists, but is kept under wrap by corporations already in place and filling their investor's pockets. And to reflect on CodeGeronimo's question posted below: how about a vegan bicycle rider? Now there is a thought!

Extremely important video, very well-researched, my friend! I hope that people everywhere start asking questions and demanding answers! It is not acceptable that hungry people go hungrier while others drive hummers!

  • Thank you and i like the idea of a vegan bicycle rider. Wouldn't it be lovely if everything was local -

My problem is when food becomes fuel that = starvation, especially when crops fail due to weather. It's very unpredictable - just as life is these days.

  • Hmmm this is just bad, maybe we should go back to nucleair power then.

Did you know this, A biciclerider who eats meat is responsible for more ozongasses, than a veggie in a hummer?

  • Yes I have heard that statement.... eating meat is the biggest manmade enviornmental disaster going. I suppose the biofuel issue for me is that we shouldn't have to depend on food for fuel, especially when studies show that biofuels actually cause more damage to the enviornment than fossil fuels.

I don't have any answers to this, but to me it just seems like we are on the road to disaster and for some, starvation.

  • Indeed, biofuel seems it is going to bring a grim future right on our doorsteps.

  • One very important point that most people don't even think about is what happens when "Mother Nature" throws us a devasting blow? ..... no food & no fuel
