I buy and sell about 10k worth of cars from craigslist a month, you just have to know what cars bring in the real world, don't put to much trust in kbb, it tends to overvalue certain cars especially american made
great video. I'm was thinking about buying a car through craigslist but the deal seems too good to be true. ITs $2500 below KBB valued it at. Also i searched the sellers number online and he had multiple listings on different cars online. I'm really afraid that i might either get robbed or buy a stolen vehicle. I live in NYC too so its not that great to own a car but it seems like everybody i know have a car except me. I have the money for it so why not?
Frustrating as all hell. ...."engine runs strong" = has a very obvious knock..
"clean" = sat in swamp for a couple years with windows down and missing parts.
...and that's just today.... Why waist your time and the buyers time,,, unless your a crook. .....I'm in a crunch too, time to drive all over the place looking for something respectable.
I'm about to purchase a vehicle from Craigslist. 1998 Cadillac DeVille 190,000 miles. I'm taking it to S&S tire for a full inspection (everything except engine and tranny). I'm also going to test drive it and ensure the title is clean. Wish me luck! I'm only paying $1,000 for it...
My advice is to look for cars in different areas where a relative you trust can check it out for you. A short plane ride and road trip is well worth the hassle you might otherwise be in for.
By the way I did once upon a time find a good car on craigslist. 5-6 years back I bought a 93 Subaru Impreza with 140k on it for $2500. Bought it from the second owner with records of dealership repairs. Needed new CV joints ($300) and ran excellent until I sold it around (170k). Body and interior were actually in perfect shape. I think region is important. I found my subaru in Oregon. I bought the lemon truck I own in NY (only bought it because the others were all rusted out).
On the same boat man. Kind of got screwed on my last purchase so I'm exercising basic caution. Been looking in the Denver area for ~3 months now. Whenever I find a good one it's gone within 2 hours of the posting. Three of the cars I looked at came back on carfax as having the odometer rolled back. The other ones have dents and dings EVERYWHERE. How the F.. do they do that to their car? Everyone is asking well over bluebook and forget about the dealerships.
got mine off cregslist. and i can say. i bought a lemon.. was great at the start. yea the paint was sprayed on from some 10 year old. and whoever took the radio out completely thrashed the inner panels. no big. but then a month later. the instrument cluster craps out.. the window crank screwed up and doesn't work. turns out the thing leaks inside. probably bad seals on the doors/windows but its a part time swimming pool
i remember two years ago i was car shopping, my dad takes me to this used car dealer and just ANY car would make me happy for my 1st car! but when we test drive this kind of old Mitsubishi Galant, the power steering is ALL out of WACK!!!! the guy said if we pay $250 now, he'll fix it. i was like WHAT?!?!?! YOU HAVE TO FIX IT ANYWAYS! peole are so dumb i tell ya! X(
That's life bro! I'm going through the same thing and it's stressful.
