Help. My Persian and American Curl get flu. It's been 2 days. Will it die? I'm taking them to the vet tomorrow. I'm so afraid. My cat had flu too and he died. What should I do for the time being?
@Rockeymaru Many cats survive the cat flu... My Mia and Angel did. :) Your vet will tell you what to do. Just make sure they eat and drink. Unfortunately, cat flu is highly contagious and can be spread to other cats. If you have other cats in your home they will get it too. You should also think about keeping your cats as indoor pets only as they can spread this virus throughout the local cat population too. Blessings to you and your kitties!
I already lost my cat for this virus :( and not I think that my new few weeks kitten has it too.. I found him at a hot day and adopted him.. He cant even see yet. It would be so sad for me if he is really ill with cat flu..
Any tips for treating?
Doesn't your cat have salive issues?
Breathing issues?
Any thing?
Because I heared cat flu makes Irreversible damage.
Get your cat the the vet, ASAP! Our Mia had some bad breathing issues... Very congested. The vet told us to make sure she kept drinking. Cats can go without food for days, but they MUST have water. She had stopped drinking and my husband and I had to give her water with a syringe (always pour the water in the cheek pouch, never straight down the throat!) And you are right, cat flu is a virus that never goes away... It stays in their system. I hope your little one comes good. Godspeed!
The vet told me that he treats cats only a month old with antibiotics and all that.
Maybe I misunderstood him.
She is fine I guess, I dont see something too suspicious yet. When Ill see Ill take her.
I have a 12-13 year old cat that had made it by her own with the cat flu.. She was sooooo ill and was gone for a week. we didn't see her, I was sure she died, but she came back, now she is better. I couldn't take her to the vet because she is a wild cat, not so much friendly..
I hope your little one improves and doesn't get any worst. We also have another cat, Angel, who caught the cat flu (most likely from Mia). She barely had a sniffle and a cough. I think it depends on the individual cats immune system. Some cats are stronger than others. Blessings to you and your furry baby!
Thanks mate! Yes, Mia does have a fascination with water, but her sister, Angel is crazy about water. I believe she might have some Turkish Van in her. :)
She's doing fine... As a matter of fact, better than fine! She loves running around the house and terrorising her sister, Angel. :) Thanks for asking, matey!
@laurux95 Yes... It's so hard! Mia was just a little kitten when she was ill. But they do recover... Cats are fighters! Just give your kitty plenty of tlc and rest... He/she'll do the rest. :)
It's funny because that is what my breeder said when I confronted her about it. But I have had many cats in my life time and none of them ever had the virus. Your Mia is very beautiful too. I will have to take more pictures of Tavi soon...he is 9 months now. It was good of you to adopt and I have done the same in the past. This time I just wanted my Bengal as they are so different. I will take a video too shortly as he does tricks, plays fetch, loves the water and so much more!
@carmy60 Thank you! :) Mia stole our hearts the minute we saw here. I'd love to see more pics or vids of Tavi. I think Bengals are super. I understand why you opted for a purebred... I have my eyes on Pixibobs. I'd love to adopt one, but they aren't available in Australia. I'd have to get one shipped over, and I'm reluctant as it may traumatise the poor little mite.
Thats exactly what it is. My breeder sold him to me knowing he had this problem....but didn't tell me. He is a Bengal and I love him to death!!!
At first he took pills when it became infectious but for the most part you just love and pet them a LOT .I dont even worry about it anymore :) Your baby will be fine too!
@carmy60 Your Bengal is simply gorgeous! :) Thanks for the reassurance. My husband and I have been giving her lots of cuddles, plenty of rest, and good quality food. It seems to help a lot.
I'm sorry to hear that the breeder was less than forthcoming with you. :( We got Mia at the shelter, and when we informed them of her health situation, they just flippantly responded that "it's JUST the flu and EVERY cat gets it at one stage or another." ??? That's not what my vet told me!
@carmy60 Did your vet tell you exactly what kind of virus your kitty has? If it's reoccurring, it sounds like the feline herpes virus... It's similar to what humans get with cold sores; it flares up occasionally and when it does, it means kitty is infectious. We're waiting on tests results to see if it's viral or bacterial in nature. Is there anything special you do to help your cat out when it gets sick? I'd like to know. Breaks my heart to see her suffer like this. :(

@blackcatspirit13 | I got them checked by the vet today. She gave an injection to them and there they are, looking fun and playful as always :D

@Rockeymaru Most likely an antibiotic injection. That's what they gave my Mia. :) I'm glad your kitties are feeling better... Excellent news!
