Kudos!!! I LOVE IT!! The perfect marriage of kayak and sail with headroom and the leeboard assisting as tiller. I get it. Beautiful design and seems very stable.
Clever, ignore the construction materials and seating position those can all be fixed later, the concept removes the rudder and thus removes some drag, and extra length and weight from your sailing kayak, this idea could easily be developed to be faster, lighter and less cumbersome than the rudder rigs you have to fit to inflatable kayaks. It may never have as tight a turning circle as a rudder system but it seems to hold glide speed well through the turn on light breeze tacks. Impressive
It seems like an ungainly design put together with scrap wood and random pvc. Very makeshift. Also the fact that the sailor needs to kneel all the time is just uncomfortable - even to watch. I know you think you developed some fantastic new sailing kayak concept, but theres actually a lot out there and has been for a while. Kits are sold that can be modified to any kayak. And you get to sit down when you sail. Seeing the kayak getting outraced by a conventional sailboat said it all.
good effort, but the video is a little preachy, and i dont see any first class sailing going on....sorry....its gonna take a whole lot more than this to convince people that youre approach is viable...
What a clever idea using the concept of moving the lee boards to create weather helm or lee helm to steer, will have to try the idea next time we take out the Paddle Ski,
This is actually my father's video, but yes, he is stearing with the leeboard alone by moving it forward and back. It is not quite a crab-claw sail, but a converted sail canoe sail. THe shorter leach lets him tack and jibe without a lot of head-ache.... ;^)
Very cool! Are you steering by just moving the leeboard forward or aft? Are you using a crab claw sail? I would really like to see some other views of your rig from outside of the boat.

Looks more like a canoe than a kayak,i thought kayaks were alot slimmer than this. this is almost a small dinghy

Congradulations dude! You just re-invented the Sunfish with the rudder in the wrong place!

A disaster waiting to happen. A simple oar as a rudder would give you more control.

cool video - have you measured your max speed? Also what ma wind speed can the rig handle? I'd like to see a side profile :)
