I didn't know you could make unmanned lock ons. A good map for this one is probably Caspian Border, tons of vehicles to target.

i love my friends we get together in the 4 classes im the engineer and my friends locks on to helis and jets and tanks and i take them out while he shoots longer range people and our assault guy reviving and healing and support allowing for close range support and ammo its a great combination because we all guard 1 area and can knock out tons of vehicles/people

I hate that this is the only anti armor weapon available to a sniper, and you're at the mercy of other players using your designations. Makes recon extremely vulnerable to tanks.

Nice tutorial on how to use the SOFLAM thank you. It sucks that you have to rely on teammates to shoot things down. Seems like everyone runs around on BF3 and acts like rambo. Is it me or does it seem like no one wants to drop ammo or repair vehicles.

SOFLAM IMO is really underpowered.It doesnt have any kind of sensor to help u in not getting kinfed,its pretty obvious because fo the laser and,becasue it require teamplay to be effective,its almost never used.If it could designate vehicles through buildings and have thermal vision,it would be SO much better

However given the lonely nature fo the recon class,it requires way more teamwork than it should IMO.MAV is a lot more effective and a lot less situational.

@The1ebutuoy - Actually it's a very useful tool when used within a TEAM setting. I am so frustrated when I get into a server with say 15 people on my team and only 3 are in a squad! These must be players from COD,,,,BF3 is a team/squad based game and when played as such a good squad that communicates can own a map. As a recon I use the SOFLAM and 2 of my clan mates load up with javelins and our fourth supplies them. Proper use of this team work can frustrate the enemy.

Today for second time in over 70h gameplay time someone lovely person who had all unlocks for tank like me came to sit on my tank to use the SOFLAM in 3rd spot.. lot of dead choppers and tanks who didnt even know where they were hit from.

@CaramelMan24 If you change class it stays there the same way you can use a radio beacon continuously in a different class, but if you respawn in the sniper class again, it vanishes.

@CaramelMan24 its like a tactical insert as far as I know, can only have 1 up at a time, so if you respawn as a recon again it'll disappear. Mines however have a place limit per life, I think its 6. So if you place 6, die, respawn as an engineer, you can place another 6 without removing the old ones. They may be the only exception to the rule however.

today i tried designating vehicles with the soflam then jumping into my nearby tank with the guided shells but it seems as though the guided shells weren't receiving the soflams lock...are tanks unable to take advantage of soflams or is the game just designed such that you cannot use the soflam and guided shells by yourself?

@blackbelt099 You can usually fly jeeps,tanks, jets, & helicopters in rush & in team death match you dont fly or man anything, in conquest you can only fly helis, jeeps, & tanks

wow im amazed at how usefull this thing is going to be for me.

Not so much the lazer designating vehicles but the fact i can put it on top of a building or mountain and then use it to help me raid basses by spotting all my enemies before i enter an area.

Instead of MAV they should of left the UAV station in and replaced the recon MAV with the motion sensors from bc2.

But so many people were whinging about nerfing the recon class due to a few noobs who camped in a bush the entire match. Alot of people actually knew how to use recon and were valuable members of a team.

Read somewhere that you ONLY get points if you actually manually lase targets, which is kind of retarded. Even if you only got like 10-20 points for autolasing it would make it alot more attractive. Also its on the same spot as the MAV right? Which i know alot of people dont like but i really do if im having trouble finding targets to shoot, just pop that thing out spot some shit and go back into snipermode.

I've assisted with the SOFLAM twice now. Once while as the gunner in a Heli someone laser tagged a jet and I was able to get it with the laser guided missile. The other time I was in a jet on the other side of the map, a sniper tagged a ground vehicle, I wasn't even facing the right direction but I had the signal beeping which okays a lock - fired and I got the kill. Really awesome little gadget. This thing is gonna be a lot of fun the more people unlock it and use it.
