There was a wild game meat shop near my house, everyone thought it was stuff like deer and elk and stuff like that being sold there. Someone found out they were attempting to sell lion meat. They were shutdown but to make sure it was permanent, a few days later someone burned it down which I think was the right thing to do. But hey, thats me.
Don't see the difference between eating this and any other animal. I'd try one. It is our responsibility to eat exotic animals before they go extinct so we can tell future generations what they taste like.

Just saw on the news - a restaurant in Hudson, FL is selling wild game, and lion meat is on the menu as a special. It's called Pape Kibo's Bistro and it's practically in the backyard of Big Cat Rescue. Is there anything you or I could do to make them stop selling lion meat for consumption?

Don't get me wrong, I love big cats and my most favorite animal of all is the tiger, the warriors of the wild. But it's strange people will get their panties up in a bunch about wild cats being served for lunch, yet no one spares a thought about the poor cow they're having when they eat a double whopper or that poor chicken they're devouring when they're having chicken nuggets.
Then efforts should be going into regulation, if it's actually possibly that poachers are smuggling meat into this country. It sounds to me that this small restaurant is hardly the issue here. Frankly, if we don't even know where the meat is coming from, I'm highly concerned, and that deserves a video. Not that I'm not skeptical about this. People harassing this restaurant owner appears to accomplish nothing.
At first, situation upset me, but I've done some thinking. Frankly I can't even see why this small restaurant is being singled out. I did some research, and there are farms that actually breed lions for meat. That was surprising enough to learn, and I think concerns should be directed to THAT business. Furthermore, I couldn't help but see the apparent hypocrisy and rampant romanticism going on with these animals, given that you have zero qualms about showing other mammals being preyed upon.
You leave out several important -facts- and keep information about the trade of big cats rather obscure. It just simply amounts to 'majestic animals being sold as food products', yet I didn't hear a real logical reason as to how this trade will affects wild populations (or it's involvement with people who breed for exhibition). And if there isn't one, I'm having trouble distinguishing if there is a bigger issue here, outside of people's cultural love for cats.

As we said in the video once a big cats as been skinned you cannot tell if it is a lion or tiger and the people buying the meat certainly don't care if you could distinguish between the two species. Wild cats are being poached and are being sold/shipped to different countries, there are not "lion farms" in the USA, the cats are coming from the unwanted cats from fairs/petting booths etc... and wild populations.

THANK YOU for that informative response to that person's ill informed criticisms. i have volunteered at a local raptor rehabilitation center and out in the flight cages (enormous barns), the raptors are fed the whole prey that the organization raises - rabbits, mice, rats and quail - none of which are endangered/threatened and are a necessary part of their diet in the wild. i truly respect what you do and how you do things at bcr.

As a deer hunter I KNOW its a bad idea to eat carnivore meat. Carnivores build up a lot of toxins in their bodies (from the toxins their pray eats it works its way up concentrated up the food chain). Heck native Eskimo woman's(who still live traditionally) breast milk is considered a toxic substance (hazmat stuff)due to all the toxins being found in whale meat being processed in her body! I will never eat carnivore meat, I shoot it I eat it, so I will never shoot a coyote, wolf, cougar, ext.

Then efforts should be going into regulation, if it's actually possibly that poachers are smuggling meat into this country. It sounds to me that this small restaurant is hardly the issue here. Frankly, if we don't even know where the meat is coming from, I'm highly concerned, and that deserves a video. Not that I'm not skeptical about this. People harassing this restaurant owner appears to accomplish nothing.

At first, situation upset me, but I've done some thinking. Frankly I can't even see why this small restaurant is being singled out. I did some research, and there are farms that actually breed lions for meat. That was surprising enough to learn, and I think concerns should be directed to THAT business. Furthermore, I couldn't help but see the apparent hypocrisy and rampant romanticism going on with these animals, given that you have zero qualms about showing other mammals being preyed upon.

You leave out several important -facts- and keep information about the trade of big cats rather obscure. It just simply amounts to 'majestic animals being sold as food products', yet I didn't hear a real logical reason as to how this trade will affects wild populations (or it's involvement with people who breed for exhibition). And if there isn't one, I'm having trouble distinguishing if there is a bigger issue here, outside of people's cultural love for cats.

@ebolaoutkast That's because the origin of where the lion meat is obscure. As we said in the video once a big cats as been skinned you cannot tell if it is a lion or tiger and the people buying the meat certainly don't care if you could distinguish between the two species. Wild cats are being poached and are being sold/shipped to different countries, there are not "lion farms" in the USA, the cats are coming from the unwanted cats from fairs/petting booths etc... and wild populations.

@ebolaoutkast The whole prey we feed to our cats is an important part of their diet/enrichment or of their rehabilitation for release back into the wild, this is a necessary thing we do for them. People don't need to be eating endangered and threatened animals, in response to the "lion farm" question please see my other response.

THANK YOU for that informative response to that person's ill informed criticisms. i have volunteered at a local raptor rehabilitation center and out in the flight cages (enormous barns), the raptors are fed the whole prey that the organization raises - rabbits, mice, rats and quail - none of which are endangered/threatened and are a necessary part of their diet in the wild. i truly respect what you do and how you do things at bcr.

If they could at least afford a lion farm that would work. Getting animals from a random number of sources is as good as trying to get rid of the race. That's actually how many nice species of animals got to be extinct. Is it that hard to understand!? I mean it hasn't been even a 100 years since we found out that killing animals for seasonal/regional food is a great cause for extinction. I'm pissed some people can't even see this problem. People in the past ate the fats in meat that we don't eat anymore nowadays, so they could last better if there wasn't much food for a while. Ok. Breeding animals in an entirely different hemisphere cannot decrease their wild population. The issue here is that cats are cute and people like to feel moral superiority about things. You can make an argument for health reasons of eating carnivore meat, but moral ones? I don't see it.
The chickens that get fed to the lions have it much much worse. But they aren't cute, so fuck em right?

@BigCatRescue Respectfully, you are incorrect that there are no lion farms in the U.S. Another restaurant in Arizona last year received their lion meat from a legal (by U.S. law) free-range lion farm called Fallows Farm in the state of Illinois. In terms of your basic premise, I might agree that consumption is a bad idea even if the animal is only "threatened." We should address things like humane treatment and poaching, but we should also get the facts right.

As a deer hunter I KNOW its a bad idea to eat carnivore meat. Carnivores build up a lot of toxins in their bodies (from the toxins their pray eats it works its way up concentrated up the food chain). Heck native Eskimo woman's(who still live traditionally) breast milk is considered a toxic substance (hazmat stuff)due to all the toxins being found in whale meat being processed in her body! I will never eat carnivore meat, I shoot it I eat it, so I will never shoot a coyote, wolf, cougar, ext.
