  • I didn't realize how much of it was CGI. I'm impressed.

  • I just watched this, outstanding.

  • Great men and women are rare in history. We had an entire generation of greatness. We were lucky beyond messure.

  • broken video is broken

  • The casting alone for this was brilliant. David Morse really did portray Washington as how I would expect him to have been. Also, the use of the English language.. WOW. Something that is lost today.

  • what was the tracking software used 4:07?

  • I have not seen the series, but have read the book. Then I listened to the whole thing on audio tape. Now I'm going to dig it up and read it again. It is magnificent! David McCullough is marvelous. When I read the book, I could hear that great voice, like he was reading it to me. He is such a great narrator and great American author. Bravo!

  • I wish someone else would uphold the constitution of the United States to the utmost of their power.

  • I am so glad I bought this DVD set when it came out. It's absolutely amazing! We're just so used to seeing these people on our currency....w/ no real mind.and various pictures of them via google or paintings ..but to actually see these actors portray these characters so convincingly...it's like we were there w/ the individuals who started the foundation of US.. Brilliant.

  • tom hanks is a genius...

  • I love the John Adams series. It's brilliant, and fantastic, and everything movies should be. I am LEARNING from this. They made it SO realistic. Watching this just makes me want to watch the series. I feel like I'm in the 1770's when I watch this. Words cannot describe how amazing they portrayed the Boston Massacre. Please make more stuff like this!

  • Fantastic series.

Probably one of the most historical and realistic movie that has ever been made (it is to me!)

  • john adams excelent movie should be watched by all great work

  • This was a brilliant series.

Some of the most eminent people around, Jefferson, Adams, Thomas Paine....quite tragic how these political freethinkers were the first and last in the USA.

  • boom! HAHA

  • "The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were. . . . the general principles of Christianity. " John Adams to Thomas Jefferson on June 28, 1813.John Adams, The Works of John Adams, Second President of the United States, Charles Francis Adams, editor (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1856), Vol. X, pp. 45-46

  • I had no idea that those backgrounds were done with green screen and matted in images. Very realistic. Further proof that movies should stop using fake looking CGI (IE, all CGI until the year 2050 when it stops looking like a video game) and just use the technique they used here. It may not be all "futuristic" and is traditional, but it looks a thousand times better.

  • @rikkyp You were mesmerised by it because America's Founding Fathers were not just ahead of their time, they are ahead of our time and I hope and prey that our great country doesn't squander the gift of Liberty that our founders gave us and slip into the abyss of socialism. Socialism is tyranny, socialism is slaverey. Pure and simple and those who have never felt true freedom will never know the undescribeable feeling of being truly free.

  • @ThePackers123 Agreed, The Founding fathers and the American people were fighting against the same tyranny that the Democrats - Liberals and Progressive Socialists are proposing and enacting now. We are now in the process of being ruled.

  • @chaumont20 Err ......no. The Founding Fathers were themselves "Liberals".

  • @philster61 ErRrrRrrRr~ no, liberals had a totally different meaning back then. heard of the term "classic liberal"? why do you think that word was coined? to separate the founders from the self described liberals of today of course, genius.

  • Nice serial

  • Nice serial

  • Thomas Jefferson is so dreamy in this. ;)

  • thy really blew up ben franklins spot in this movie. probably the least likeable depiction i've ever seen of him.

  • The thing is, we will never know quite what their personality was like-Franklin may well have been a total and utter dick-we will never know

  • DId not know until he read McCullough's book that Adams protected the British soldiers from Boston massacre incident ?

Forrest Gump you should have watched "Amistead"

  • this is so goood! cant wait for "The Pacific"

  • thx tom

  • i bought the mini-series last year and to this day i still wtch it its amazing thx hbo

  • I can't believe he didn't know that John Adams defended the Boston Massacre soldiers. Even I knew that, and I'm not American. But I do have really smart American friends...

  • Does anyone know as I have missed the 4th episode, where can I watch it?

  • You can get it at your local library

  • I haven't seen this series yet but on the basis of this clip it looks excellent. Hope it goes some way to restoring a true picture of events after all the anti British crap that Mel Gibson produces.

  • Hanks again, involved in an amazing theme. An espetacular producer. An espetacular theme, an espetacular history ... american history.

    Congratulations!

  • Tom Hanks is an amazing producer. He does just amazing productions with amazing themes.

    Congratulations !!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite television miniseries ever. HBO does yet another fantastic job.

  • wow, that's amazing, how much work was put into this movie

  • Did you guys know that this series is based on a true story?

  • hahaha, oh my god, that just made my day.

  • America was/is a country born of a dream--and RISK...To dare to be something better..To stand up for what you believe, no matter the cost....awesome!!

  • Makes you proud!

  • :D Haha, I've "played" in this movie:D

    (I don't know in which episode, I haven't seen it yet:D)

I was singing in a crowd 'Hail Columbia' in the theatre in the box on the right above the stage (and I've got 120$ for it ;)

  • AWESOME WORK.

  • AMAZING AMAZING mini-series. The best TV I have seen in a long time, really brings the era to life authentically. Thanks HBO!

  • I just bought this on dvd. I am getting ready to start it, I hope I enjoy it as much as you have.

  • We can relearn a lesson from our founding fathers about how to vehemently disagree with someone, yet still respect him/her as a person.

  • People forget just how nasty they were back then. Jefferson called John Adams "Your Rotundity" because of his seeming obsession with titles.

These people took partisanship to a totally different level than we do nowadays.

    Most people don't know that.

  • In my opinion, compared to the foul-mouthed and viciously cruel insults and actions of those that deem themselves modern-day advocates of the progression of politics and our nation, "Your Rotundity" is quite a compliment.

  • People were much more eloquent in the late 18th Century, but that doesn't make them any more civil or less mean-spirited.

  • nasty people are morons.

  • Hats oiff, and a deep, sweeping bow to HBO for creating a series of such integrity and signifigance! Finally, Hollywood gets it right by not forcing 21st century sensibilities upon an 18th century culture! John and Abigail Adams' humanity are so convincingly portrayed, that their marital squabbles and bedroom tumbles are not unnerving to watch in the least. Who would of thought that Founding Father John Adams, not Bill Clinton, would have the first real presidential sex scenes shown on film? LOL

  • Truely complex simple its brings such depth to what could be such droll history the actors the sets amazing and all in the set its history also proves a backdrop to this current situation that we now find our fair country in one wonders what they Adams and Franklin about this curret war love the way that Franklin the coy old man helps Adams brings depth to the men

  • First, they gave us the Band Of Brothers. Now, John Adams. Not a huge fan of HBO but they gave us another WINNER!!!

  • HBO deleted my last comment for some reason, so I'll post it again. My exact words "Did anyone notice the subliminal flash at 4:22 and 4:26? I don't know that it's supposed to mean anything, I'm only pointing out that is it definitely there. I saw this on hbo the other night and noticed a flash that seemed odd, got online and found this video and sure enough it was odd."

  • Has anyone else noticed the subliminal flashes at 4:22 and 4:26? Not saying it's anything of importance, but hey it is there.

  • I really want to buy this movie...the author states that Washington never commanded troops...THIS IS WRONG...he was promoted to Colonel in the British army during the French and Indian war and he blundered at it. In case you did not know. :) Really want to see this movie though.

  • Such an incredibly well-made show -- it's a privilege to watch.

  • I'm currently a full time student enrolled at South Texas College.Government is one of those "boring classes" I just had to take. Thanks to this spectacular series, I have a different appreciation of American Government. Thanks HBO

  • When this comes out on DVD i am certainly going to buy it no matter how much it costs!

  • I've watched the first two episodes and they are outstanding! One cannot help but be moved by some of the dialog and images within the program. I can't wait to see the remaining episodes!

  • i hope this will come out as DVD... since i cannot watch it on tv...

  • I was close to canceling HBO until this. Guess I'll wait until this is over. It's awesome so far

  • great premiere tonight! i hope the rest of the series is equally impressive.

  • Just amazing...I want to be an extra!!!

  • We'll be watching tonight!

  • Amazing!

The worke on the buildings and streets, it's art!

It looks like Kullback and the visual effects stuff did fantastic job, its wonderfull!

    The costume design is great!

    and a good story...

I'm looking forwored to wach it.

  • You should come up to Boston then and see some of the real ones.

  • Awesome!

  • Only a couple hundred views - how pathetic that Americans couldn't care less about their own history. When they lose their democracy to the corporations, at least they'll have iPods.

  • Indeed.

  • I'm with you there. They're too preoccupied with their celebrities, gossip, or whatever. Bread and circuses mentality again. They should be as suspicious of big government as many are of big corporations.

  • I will have to say thats true, Im american myself. Either I learn the history rather or follow my peers into stupidity.

  • This isn't the only one on the series....there are others so don't lose heart.
