I built one very similar to this and found that framing the trim on the ground with a mock screen helps with fit and finish. I taped an outline on the basement floor and then mitered my cuts and fit them into place. This allowed me to brad nail and stain the wood on a flat surface while clamped,and once dry move the completed assembly to the painted screen on the wall.
