If you hate it I recommend just using it for a day or two. It becomes very natural very quickly. I started using it yesterday and hated it but started using it anyway and it's already awesome and I'll never go back. I'm actually on my phone's youtube app leaving this message using the swype feature right now.

Swype is so awful. I've used it for three months and finally downloaded Swift Key X, which is amazing. Swype has no technology to look at your writing patterns. I always got the wrong your/you're or too/to. It always confused out, put, our and it. It was just a disaster and not customizable at all. Swift Key X knows exactly what I want to say, even when I'm only at like 25% accuracy and being super-sloppy. It has tons of custom features. Ditch Swype. It blows.

After watching this Swype video and the 8pen video - I am so thankful I have a Blackberry. I really think any system that relies on "one" finger for entering text is going to be inferior. Developers should be looking for ways to get your thumbs involved.

@bellysize I used this in the AT&T store and 30 seconds later I could type faster than on any phone / mobile device's keyboard that I've used including iphones, Blackberries, t9, full qwerty.. The guys who made it claim everyone can get to 50 words per minute easily. That's a lot faster than most users type on a computer. Easy to learn. And one finger.

you dont need to capitalize words at the beggining of a sentence, in my version of swype it does it automatically. I can type almost as fast as with a real keyboard with swype, it's really wonderful. Is there any similar alternative of swype for non jailbroken iphones? my gf has an iphone and she wants swype too.

I downloaded this on my iPhone 4 (different name than Swype) because I like the idea. And I tested out the speeds with this and a regular keyboard. Used the Swype keyboard for 2 days to get used to it, then did the test. I typed 2 sentences & actually finished typing 20 seconds faster with the default keyboard. So I prefer the default. And the default on my iPhone gives me haptic feedback (which is also a plus).

Dvorak keyboards allow for better WPM than QWERTY actually =)

Dvorak was designed to reduce awkward finger placements and keep commonly typed keys on the home row. QWERTY was designed to be able to type TYPEWRITER from the top row =P

Back on topic, Swype will definitely be going on my Android phone once I get it. (Though I may try 8pen for fun)

I don't see what advantages this has to offer over just hitting the letters you want. I could be missing something but it looks a hell of a lot more complicated than a regular touch screen keyboard. When I want a double letter I just hit the letter twice rather than swirling, and when I want caps I just hit caps. If somebody could fill me in as to what the advantage is I'd be interested to find out.
