I saw Michelle do this on Broadway. She was fantastic! But there was always something that made me wonder how Lanie would have been. She was fired in Chicago for 'gaining weight' so they say. Still it would have been interesting,
Often wonder if that controversy is why Michelle lost that Tony...
@JerseySurvivor Lucky! I would have loved to have had the chance to see her! =) Lainie is fantastic as well - I'm sure she would have made a wonderful Gittel, and it's such a shame that she was fired, especially for a horrible reason like that! Anyways, Michele definitely deserved the Tony that year - I had never thought of it that way, but you're right, it could have been due to the controversy.
@DorisDayFanatic I've also wondered how Michelle would have done if she was in the '72-'73 race (Seesaw opened in spring '73, but after Tony consideration). Then again, she would have been up against Debbie Reynolds AND Glynis Johns, so maybe it was for the best. Oh, and Lanie was fired in Detroit, not Chicago.
@fossefan That's a good point. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Michele Lee been in the 1973 race. I'm not downing Virginia Capers or Carol Channing, as I'm sure their performances were excellent, but I do think that Michele Lee should have won the Tony in 1974. Then again, some of the best ones don't win, like Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady and Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl. I guess some races are just tougher than others.
"Nobody Does It Like Me" is among many great performances by Michele Lee throughout the great "Seesaw" cast CD and so glad to replace worn out old vinyl Original Cast lp...she is stunning and should have won the Tony Award! Bravo Michele & Co for a fine and lasting classic!
I saw Michele in the hit musical "Seesaw," based on William Gibson's play "Two for the Seesaw". Ken Howard and Tommy Tune also starred. "She sings, moves, acts, and radiates like a true pentathlon champion, she deserving accolades".
@lindamorgane i agree. am trying this song at the moment. would love to sing like her but anyway.......hey, wasn't she in another weekly serial? i can't remember what it was. do you know? she's awesome!!!!!
@mangahoui The only weekly show that I can think of is Knots Landing - I don't think Michele did another one. Maybe you're thinking of someone else, or maybe you're remembering Knots Landing? Knots was on for 14 seasons, and Michele was in every episode. With the cast changes (there were many), it's possible that you could be remembering two different casts of the show. Or I could just totally be blanking out! =)
Dear Michele, You are amazing.
