  • I don't know another guitarist who better demonstrates the heights of emotive beauty that can be wrung out of a Fender guitar, although Hendrix & Tom Verlaine are a couple of other devoted Fender players who also demonstrated well how a Fender in the right hands is a truth telling voice that can sing & talk as beautifully, expressively, articulately, & movingly as a talented singer or speaker can do. Tom V. once said : "Robbie Robertson is a really special guitarist." I concur!

  • Some of Robbie's best sounding guitar work ever...of course this is all Richard Manuel who wrote it and lived it, having known him...

  • Peace at last, RIchard we miss you.

  • great mostly canadian 60s music, got to love it

  • Did Todd Rundgren produce this album? This track reminds me of his "The Ballad of Todd Rundgren" lp.

  • @pretorious700 Wikipedia says he did. Guess you got yourself a good ear!

  • @pretorious700 - The album credits list Todd Rungren as the "Engineer" and Glyn Johns as the "Mix Down", but no specfic credit for "producer".

  • One of those songs....

  • It was 25 years ago today that Richard Manuel decided to go to sleep for good. He was just too good for this world.

  • The Band was so underappreciated it is just sad. Richard nManuel was such a good singer-and at one time an accomplished songwriter. He was an alcoholic before we knew what that was, and IMO that caused him to stop writing. Whispering Pines is one of the prettiest songs ever sung-and that was Manuel.. These guys were among the best to ever play.

  • the band was THE greatest rock (or whatever you wanna call it) band-EVER

  • @mikie8865 YOU ARE RIGHT

  • Check out Garth on the organ from 2:40 onward. Amazing. Can't believe I didn't hear that on my own album yet!

  • i loved it when bang bang sang this in the brothers bloom

  • @townshend1969

That's just about what I told Garth when I first met him.

Please check out thethebandband here on You Tube. We are a tribute band to the greatest rock band ever and I gotta say I'm having the time of my life playing their music.

  • Levons drumming on this (especially during the guitar solo....................Magnificent!!!!

  • @macvoutie - Well said, my friend! This is such an amazing tune!

  • @macvoutie

Levon is an amazing drummer. Richie Manuel was an amazing singer. Danko was an amazing music player (with all of his soul !) and singer too, Robbie is a amazing songwritter and guitar player, Garth is an amazing keyboards/acordeon/sax player.

In fact : THE BAND WAS AMAZING !
