put this in a commercial or on classic vh1 to give it the fame it deserved when it was first released in 1980. the fact that i never heard this song again on radio after 1980 and never saw this video on tv proves how f'ed up televison and radio programming has been for over 30 years.
I have the album bought it when it was brand new, this was old school or considered classic altenative back then!! Thanks for uploading this video, its a classic!!
Thanx for posting. Once again its the summer of '80. Im watching Spider on Video Concert Hall (preMTV) on the old Satellite Programming Network. Only saw this video a few times back then, but this kidna song stays with a person.
Who the hell are Jessie J & Rebecca Black? And why do they get so many views (in 8 digits) while a classic gem like this that's really worth listening to can't even get 2,000 views? How sad & pathetic. Today's kids don't know crap about music.
just lovely to hear this again. I bought the vinyl single at the time but never saw the film clip before. Very clever and the band all having fun. And Amanda ... oh wow!
One of the 80s most sadly overlooked bands. I'm glad you shared this with us all who can appreciate great talent like this. "New Romance" did hit the Top 40, peaking at #39. The following 2 singles should have done better chart wise, especially the bluesy "It Didn't Take Long" from their 2nd album release. Amanda Blue, Keith Lentin, Jimmy Lowell, Holly Knight, & Anton Fig.
you can by a blue.fig cd that is pressed to order on amazon that has songs made by amanda and anton fig from 1985 - 1989. it has some really good 1980s new wave and underground dance music and some rock.
it would have been a great album if it was polished and tweaked in some hollywood studio then released, had some videos made for some of the songs, AND GOT RADIO PLAY. none of that happend but the songs are really good. continued....
the blue.fig. cd has songs that it seemed like i heard before sometime in the 1980s while overseas but that is not possible since the music was not released but it is really cool '80s music.
when i first heard "new romance" it was like i heard that song in a dream years earlier as a kid. i never experienced that with any song before then or since then. it was magic. i never forgot how this song made me feel back then. i hope they all get back together to make one last spider album.
Looks like they pioneered the ''frozen moment'' in their vid..lol..a la Creed 20 yrs later..anyone one got the vid of the Toronto version..?? really kicks tht one
great video. nothing to make it seem dated. performers look & act cool unlike some other 80s videos.. the biggest mystery to me is why great songs by a great group who, unbeknownst to me, made great videos for their music did not take off when this was released. spider was way better than blondie and better than pat benetar and just as good as the pretenders.
2 women fronting this band like Heart should have been a hit. i blame radio stations for not playing the songs. it happens a lot.
The debut Spider album was the first album I ever purchased as a young teenager and this song, obviously, was one of my favorites! Amanda's voice is the best!

As pretty as the girls in the band are, the blonde in the audience @ 1:39, 2:21, & 3:02 stole the show.
