Really nice score! And ofc there is no doubt i would marry Anna Paquin without questions ^^ Sooo sweet <3 Well, time to watch the movies again folks! cya
This used to be one of my favorite tracks of the movie. Then I watched Mr. Holland's Opus and realized that Michael Kamen had "stolen" this piece of music from that movie.
Check out /watch?v=AKAVPajd4wQ&feature=related from 3:44 to around 4:40.
@nyo267n Um Im sorry but you are entirely incorrect,Michael Kamen fully composed Xmen and also Mr.Hollands Opus...you'll find that every film composer has a signature in his or her music,a stream of notes or beat etc which is what you recognized in the music.....soif you dont believe me go to IMDB.COM and type in Michael Kamen and it will show you a list of everything he has ever composed.
@SmileItRainsInRohan Sorry if I was not making myself clear. I'm well aware of that Michael Kamen composed the music for Mr. Holland's Opus as well, hence the quotation marks in "stolen".
I listen a lot to music and I have listened to film music for all my life, and I know that composers (and artists as well) develop their own "sound". However, sometimes composers run out of inspiration or time, and instead of developing a previous idea they simply reuse it. That's clearly the case here.
And regarding "a signature", I've only come across this tune in these two cases (so to me, this isn't Kamen on autopilot, nor his signature sound). Correct me if I'm wrong.
@nyo267n I didnt mean to insult you, just to let you know that Kamen did in fact compose both films thats all. Some composer's film scores sound similair in different movies,it happens--but we dont need to say that Kamen or any other composer "stole" from his own music, that he wrote himself.Im not saying your wrong for recognizing one of Michael Kamen's signature sounds/notes,Im saying that you should go to IMDB.com and look up all his films he has ever composed for..then you'll know what I mean.
@SmileItRainsInRohan Yeah, as I told you, I knew that from the beginning but I apologize if my first post made you think differently.
I still think it's fair to say that he ran out of time and/or inspiration and decided to reuse a previous composition. Of course composers develop a sound and "habits", but if you ask me he has reused too much here, and I really did find that disappointing when I first found out what had happened.
I have never heard this tune in his other works. You?
@nyo267n Oh, well thats okay-misunderstandings happen all the time.Again,I can see your point but this doesnt offend me as it clearly offends you,I like hearing the signatures that composer's develop&put into their film scores, I see their work as a collection-not seperate&never to be used agian,I dont believe that a composer should be limited when they create-Im sorry that this bothers you so much,I just dont see the problem at all, well yes I have heard this but not all of it together like-
@nyo267n -like in this peice here, Ive heard bits of it in the Three musketeers, the Iron Giant some others but the one I heard it in the most is what dreams may come, i think...but the whole thing I havent heard in complete stream of notes in any other film, that i can bring to mind at the moment...sorry I misunderstood you, it seems we have a very different way of thinking but I guess what matters most is that we both care about film scores enough have our own opinions about it
@SmileItRainsInRohan It seems as though you know what you're talking about. I think that I take a harsher stance due to the fact that I really hyped the score before it came out (during 1999 and 2000) and I expected something powerful and epic, and I felt somewhat that it lacked power, quality and identity. And one of the few ques I actually did like was this "re-used" one. This and the fact that I'm studying copyright law makes me extra harsh, but not necessarily a better judge =P
@nyo267n Thanks,I'll take that as a compliment;) ah,yes well I get that-its terrible when you think the music is going to be a certain way like 'Powerful and Epic' but then it just completly dissapoints you&then its an effort to connect to the movie.Oh, I can see where the music could have played a bigger role in the movie,at times it was like the music itself was a guest instead of a part of the characters.I didnt mean to say that you were a harsh person, just that like me,you expect exellence-
@nyo267n -in the score, only where we differentiate is that I have&probably will continue to be offended if it is horrid ect but you seem to be much more insulted when the level of exellence, that not only you&I but others who love composers instinctively believe, that the movie will be that much better for having this composer or that composer, fails.I mean I dont really get excited about a film until I know who the composer is:) Judge? lol,No-we just want the score to be as great as it possible!:)
Speaking of movies which only excite me after they have announced the composer: Tintin. This could be one of Williams' last major scores and I really hopes he'll be able to make something incredible (even by his own standards). And still, I will be so disappointed if he re-uses too much from Indiana Jones. I'm crossing my fingers (or, as we do here in Sweden: "holding my thumbs").
@nyo267n Yes we do:) Ah, yes I remember hearing about that a while ago,oh no!It will be a great loss to film if he retires but I too hope that will be incredible-though it is difficult to expect anything less of Williams, lol yes his own standards indeed:D haha, well hopefully, for your sake, he wont:)I'll keep my fingers crossed too-oh!Thats interesting,Ive never heard of that saying:)glad to know where your from here in America we still stay fingers crossed but "holding my thumbs" seems fitting.
@nyo267n Just to clarify: I know that Kamen wrote the music for Mr. Holland's Opus as well (which in my opinion is one of his strongest works, together with The Iron Giant), but by "stole" i mean "reused".
I just watched this movie like 3 times and all the others but the origins and the newest one. Is it strange that a 12 year old girl ( me ) likes these movies.
@horsesaremylife31899 True, and yeah I just watched The Last Stand for the god knows what time'th and the movie, to no surprise got even better with age, like wine the X-men series are always a good time
p.s.. not an alcoholic.. I don't drink, or smoke but I thought it a good reference. Haha, BOOOOOSH!
The first film had far and away the best score. Even though it was low on plot compared to the other two, it had wonderful little character moments, especially with all of the father/son dynamic between Rogue and Logan.
@gothamite27 With all due respect, don't you mean father/*daughter* dynamic?! (Which, of course, carried-over to some significant extent in the subsequent films in the initial trilogy, especially the 2nd one...). As for scores and composers, for me it's mostly a toss-up, as I like all 3 very much. Best wishes to all...
@johnkerry7 If I felt that way I wouldn't have typed and posted my comment. Michael Kamen's skills are in my opinion steps above John Ottman's. Comes down to preference. Outside of the main theme in x2 the rest of the score is forgettable for me.
WOW, I just stared into her eyes the whole song.....................powerful stuff thinking of her gifts and talents the music helps in the intensity capturing her being even if it hard to see at first! I can relate truly! It's awesome thanks for posting it!
I have the actual score sheet music for this amazing theme... But I want it converted for piano.... I'd send it to anyone willing to do that for me.... or anyone who wants it for like a band of something...

Don't you see that Logan was in love with Jean?
