  • Oh what a nice job when cutting with the scissors around the back end, it looks too messy even if it is just 'pet grooming'. If I took my Pom to a groomer and collected him looking like that I would be extremely upset.

  • For the record, this is not a Pomeranian. It's still a beautiful dog, but it's definitely not a Pom.

  • my pom is bigger than a usual pom that people know of.. he's a really good dog, sweet and just so curious... give him bath, brush his hair etc.. but i dont know how to brush his teeth... dog treats to help with plaque/tartar just won't help with the breath... any suggestion???

  • that is such a good dog! My pom goes crazy when I groom him. ahahhaa. this was super helpful, and I'll be using it as a reference when I clean my puppy up!

  • Today I groomed my pom and he has more then 20 matts. Its crazy! I gave up! He hasnt had all his shots because we got him from a pound and they didnt groom him or give him the shots so we have to wait for one month to take him profetionally grooming. Any advise out there>?

  • "Moaning Dog Productions"? That just sounds dirty... lol.

  • what's the hammer for? difficult clients! lol x used to have a standard poodle that had to be muzzled & sedated for his bath.. that hammer would have come in handy.. no, only joking.. I now have a pom and adore her but the grooming takes forever.. I knew that when I got her though. she is one of the taller types.. guess everyone wants things handbag size nowadays..

  • I have a pomeranian at my house and all I hear is, yap yap yap! It's so stressing over everything else that is difficult.PLEASE somebody ask how to stop them from yaping pointlessly...

  • @ThatBigBad mine was a "found" dog I ran ads but no one wanted her.I think that the amount of time you spend with her/him isn't the issue its the "make her feel like a princess" idea!they are very attention hogs much like a 4 year old!Honee (my dog) had an issue w/peeing!pick her up to hold her;you'd get wet!raise your voice;she'd wet!We finely started reffering to her as "our paranoid pomerainain" but.....I started taking her just her & I (i have a shitzu & a chicheuaha)to the mail she

  • @ThatBigBad ha you have to train them...and he/she will be stubborn tothe training but thats the only way

  • My pomeranian Ruby is the #1 pomeranian!(I think!)

  • The way she cut the back of the pom in the "v" cut looks terrible, she should have taken more time to make it look nicer.

  • thank you for a very informative video!

  • why do Pom's Snort? I have a 3 yo female who was running lose no RFD or Micro Chip I put out newspaper ads no one claimed her & living where I do the coyotes would have had an appitizer with her!so she found a home with us however, she snarles when I pick her up & talk to her or put her back down she will snort! bares her teeth, lick her uppers & & snort.IDGI!can you explain?

  • @coolcutsgal2 she is probably just displaying some reactionary behaviors to you picking her up and then putting her back down... is it a snort or sort of a chuffing bark??

  • @coolcutsgal2 its called "reverse sneezing"... google it.

  • You want to make sure you can run a finishing comb through the coat as part of the finishing out. Combing will find and help remove any remaining knots or extra undercoat that needs to be eliminated.

  • pomeranians are awesome.. listens to me... never runs away... always kind and defends me. lol

  • I really love watching you work and your accent trips me out. "Undacoat." Haha. Seriously though, very helpful.

  • Thank you, Diane. You did a great job! - Phoenix Pom Mom

  • so if you want your pom to look like a dr.seuss character, and insist on an 80 dollar 'lion cut' DONT GET A POMERANIAN! get a lowchen instead.thyere meant to look that way,but your pom could suffer greatly by such a horrible and dangerous(for the skin)mutilation of its natural beauty and biology!DONT DO IT!!

  • yeah, professional groomers rule of thumbNEVER SHAVE YOUR POM!that ridiculus loin cut nonsense will ruin a poms coat and skin, will cost you hundreds of dollars in vet bills, special weekly medicated baths, cortizone shots, anitbiotics, antiinflammatories, and in many cases whole patches of the coat will NEVER grow back in completely or correctly EVER AGAIN!your pom should never be shaved, except for unworkable inhumane to brush type knots.but sometimes you just have to.same with chows and goldens!

  • Bravissima Diana

  • Thankyou, I would love to work with dogs :) xxx

  • he's such a good boy!!

  • Slow down...! You are way too rough in almost every step of this Pom. grooming. The "hacking off" of those "pants" in the back was horrid. I am NOT a groomer, yet I do a much better job - I do it carefully, respectively and am attentive to the dog's comfort level at all times. Grooming is an ART. Treat it as such. Don't hurry just because you're "making a video" - it seems as if you have a bus to catch or something. Try doing that rough, hurried job on a St. Bernard!

  • OMG THANK YOU. you just saved me $150 every 8 weeks for my 2 poms!!!

  • @asenboyz i bet your groomer wouldnt charge you 75 each if you came in once a month like you should! here on long island, nassau county n.y. north shore, the normal price is 50 for monthly customers.with average condition freindly, small dogs.most groomers here would slam you like that if your dogs are a problem,or if theyere always a disaster when theyre seen.tipping well also keeps your groomer happy, thats the key for being considered for holiday appts or last-minute emergencies!

  • @irishbreakfast my male is pom terrier and hes more on the pom side when it comes to his fur i comb him daily to make sure he dont have much undercoat when he goes to the groomer (lol, thinking it wont be as much.) and my female is a long hair chihuahua/pom mix and her fur dont shed maybe 10% of the time. and wowzaaa $150 -__-

  • Great video , the best i have seen, i have two poms and i learned how to groom them both by watching this video, well done.

  • Great video, i have two poms, and this ciip made the grooming process so much easier as its in dept and informative, well done, i watched other clips on pom grooming by other users and they didnt go into detail like what you did,

  • I'm sorry.. But shut up and groom him xD

  • my groomer "cut" my poms hair. I only asked for a sanitary area cut...but she cut all her hair. The pointy nature of her fur is now gone and she looks ridiculous. Can someone tell me if her hair will do back to the natural way she was born and how long this should take.....Help!

  • my groomer "cut" my poms hair. I only asked for a sanitary area cut...but she cut all her hair. The pointy nature of her fur is now gone and she looks rediculous. Can someone tell me if her hair will do back to the natural way she was born and how long this should take.....Help!

  • @betsyneedsalife Same happened to my poodle. The lion grooming was perfectly kept, and it was all clipped down to 0. Growing it back was a pain, but twice the pain was to get the puffs back in order. It takes long, and it takes patience. Much grooming and brushing, for a pom´s coat to get back in order. I suppose, if it happens the same way it happened to my poodle, it does get back to the natural way with lots of care.

Although, I wouldn´t take her back to the same dumb groomer to did that. :C

  • @ jeng8s So where's your Pom grooming vid?

  • AreaR...PapayaR...Bahhbar....love the wicked bad new england accent!...adorbs pom though!

  • as a groomer myself I can say that pom grooms are cake work...easiest work ever...and yet you still made a disaster of that pup...not to mention youre teaching dangerous tecniques to pet owners who have no professional education...hopefully nobody slices their dogs pads off trying to scissor them or cuts their dogs belly from pressing so hard...this is honestly one of the worst grooming videos I've ever seen.

  • this type of clips really use full for those who are new pet lovers ....

  • How often is it okay to give my cats a bath?? I don't want to over do it... but it grosses me out to think about them digging around in the litter box and then walking all over my bed... I don't scoop the littler, I throw it out and put new stuff in because I want the least germs walking around my house as possible...

  • so cute <3

  • Where is your safety leash so that in case the dog jumps or slips it will not fall off the table and bathtub?? I do not use scissors on the paw pads, you can easily slice a dogs paw pad by using them! Only clippers. I like the way you squeeze the anals so that it ends up in the palm of your hand, thats a good one, folks don't try that at home!!

  • those are relly good techniques but she left a mess on that poor dong.

  • Awesome! Thank you for this video :) Very helpful!

  • Thanks for posting this video! I haven't been wanting to spend out the money to get my dog groomed so i have been grooming him myself. This video was really helpful. Thank you.

  • Did you hypnotise that dog? My cat would never stand for this. :(

  • Hi, Diana.

    My name is Diana, too!

    But, that's not the point!

I wanna ask you for a little advice.. how do you get the fur fluffed up real nice.. cuz my pom's fur is a bit flat.. please answer i really need and want to know.

    Thanks

  • im going to start a dog grooming business soon and it wont cost much i need more supplies but im going to get soon i be passing out flyers to

  • I hate trimming around the asshole. But its a little easier now with this video.

  • @amyriggsby lol, your right. mabey its just a rough in?

  • I learned when your Pomeranian puppy gets older they start to have puppy uglies and there fur starts become matted and it hurts them. If you cut the top rougher layer of a Pomeranian you have a 50-50 chance of there fur not growing back and they look very choppy if you do a bad job.

  • What is the brand and type of the electric razor you're using in this video?

  • the dog is so cute :D

  • Haha what a funny accent :p

  • wow, even a dog has to do a Brazillian wax.

  • im just watching this because i wanna be a dog groomer when im older its helping me learn ty

  • I have 2 litters I FROM one mom and dad i thought the mther was having a hard time nursing 1st litter so we gave them a little bit of goat milk when they were first eating and they are much larger than next litter that we did not give as much as little pups. the larger ones are about 15 to 20 lbs

  • i dont think she is rough at all with handling the dog, i don't see how the hygiene clip was 'forceful' i thought it was quick yet gentle. i don't agree with how she cut the pants tho, cutting it across like that, even for a pet trim. i usually cut it down to reduce the volume and blend it in. i usually rake it too to reduce volume, its usually full of dead hair. but other than that it was a good video, especially for those who are unsure how to approach tidying a pom.

  • Thanks so much for doing this! I thought you did a great job! I don't need to have a show dog. Just a sweet dog who's clean which is why I've been looking for how to do this myself. :) It was so nice to see someone do it so I have some confidence trying it. Imagine, I color my own hair too! ;)

  • Thanks for the great comments. It's hard to see comments that are bad about my mother, she has been grooming and rescuing animals for more then 30 years!

  • She has been grooming for more then 30 years. This is a pet grooming, not a show dog!

  • I rated this video 5 stars. She gave some good tips on at home maintenace. But I will leave the scent gland squeezing to the professionals :)

  • what type of nail clippers are you using?

  • thank you for this clip. I have 3 poms & this will be very helpfull when I do their nails/bath

  • I clip nails every day on a guilottine. From the front. Because I'm not afraid of being bit, because I know enough about dogs and their personality to where I can tell who's going to bite me and who isn't. How about you have someone take your arm from behind? It's a common defensive maneuver, isn't it? Wrenching your hand behind your back? Your pom is obviously used to this... but what about a dog you don't know? They can't get to your hand from behind, can they. Natural is always better.

  • What's the hammer for?!?!?!? J/K, great video. Thank you for posting it, it's been very helpful :)

  • I never knew about the smelly sack in their butts....wow, that's gross.

  • they are called anal sacks and should only be expressed by your vet. its very easy for you to rupture them

  • it's so cute and funny to see him being blow dried, my dog would be going crazy! this is one well behaved dog!

  • What a good dog! Wow, he did very well. Very informative. Thank you.

  • I think it's really funny how she said that she didn't want to pull out the undercoat because it's beautiful. The dog would look a lot better if the undercoat was the be pulled out. The hair would look a lot thinner and it would lay better on the dog. I also think it's funny how her scissoring was all curved. The pom should be a tight roundup straight around. And this dog is a pure bred.

  • @darkhaeli the undercoat is important on a pom. It is a part of their coat that should never be removed. Poms should never be shaved only trimmed and thinned in spots.

  • my dog weighs over 9 lbs. and is a purebred pom. he is a bigger of the poms is registered with the ckc. but is a pet. he will let me blow dry him no problem and when he comes to getting a bath we have it down pat now. to me my dog is precious and even though he is not a show dog, he is the best to me. i bathe him to keep him clean

  • wow! my dog can`t stand to be blow dryed. he`s a good dog

  • thank you so much for this video! grooming my pom can be difficult, because she hates going to the bathroom, she hates her brush, etc. i'm going to use your tips the next time around. :)

  • Ruby is such a good dog, do dogs usually fight back in a violent matter?

  • it depends on the nature of the dog... if they are aggressive or friendly... Rudy must be a well trained dog to put up with the tugging and pulling recieved...

  • actually, Rudy is a purebred Pomeranian though on the large side... Poms used to be as large as 30 pounds in the past but over time have been bred down to the dimunitive size we see today. but certainly a Pom can be purebred and weigh more than the AKC, CKC, UKC and NKC standards..... you just wouldn't show them in the show ring...

  • i wish she was my groomer. she was so gentle. my mom caught our old groomer beating our dog once, and we never went back.

  • And what would you do if your dog is not a saint like this one and wants to lick, smell, chew everything that gets near?

  • i just cant stop watching this video! I really love your work, and that dog is a saint!! :)

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO. Thanks a lot for your efforts to make this and post it for us.

  • WOW you dog is so quiet and patient :)

  • my Pomeranian hates it when i try brushing him

  • mine too! and he doesnt like bath time either!

  • i love dog gromming i want to be a profeshanal grommer

  • Pomeranians are a type of spitz so they decend from the much larger spitz breeds like the japanese spitz and the samoyed this is why you often get poms larger than the standard it is not necessarily bad breeding!

If you are thinking of getting a puppy please check that its not from a puppy mill by seeing the parents and if you can, consider a rescue dog they really are the sweetest dogs sometimes rather than supporting cruelty to animals!!!

  • That Pom is alot bigger than I thought =/

    maybe its a mix ?

  • No. Just bad breeding. We get Yorkies that are three times the size or more of a normal Yorkie. It's probably a puppy mill dog.

  • I did the think with the smell in its but. IT ISNT JUST A SMELL ITS A LIQUID THAT GOES ON PEOPLES FACES. It happend to me. But I think she should of mentioned that it was a liquid. That goes on peoples faces like mine. Its true it smell HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Thanks for the video. That's one well behaved pom but why is there a hammer on the grooming table? Isn't that dangerous and quite an odd place to have it. I'm counting the days when my little pom comes home to me! :)

  • are there two different types of poms?? because i was expecting mine to be smaller but shes really big???

  • Then she's not a pedigree pom. There is only one type of pom, they are all counted as toy.

  • there is only one type of Pomeranian. However, while breed standard is only up to 7 pounds, some poms have been known to be as large as 18 pounds.

  • mine is 15 pounds but hes not registered and i got him form a BYB....you could say ! but he is pure bred !!

  • The standard Pom is actually a dwarf version of the larger more proportioned German Spitz Klein(looks like what is in this video) look at your poms face, do you notice it is slightly longer than the smaller poms you see and the eyes are smaller and closer together? They are all purebred but because they are dwarfs just like in human dwarfs their offspring is sometimes not a dwarf(it skips a generation) So your Pom maybe a German Spitz Klein, which is cool, I have one and am very happy with him.

  • What a cute dog. Very well behaved throughout that entire ordeal.

  • anyone agree she was a little rough on the poor chap?

  • No, not at all!

  • my words exactly

  • This Pom is so calm. I'm jealous. ....but this information is so helpful... If only my little girl will sit still.

  • What about the dog's pee string? The long tuft of hair on their penis? I thought it was used to guide the urine to to ground and not on their bodies? She clipped it right off!

  • hm thanks now i know not to cut it off like she did thanks

  • you should clip it off not leave it as it gets dirty fast

  • if i leave it on will i lead to infection?

  • its fine if you shave it off, its supposed to be shaven, its just hair

  • I've been thinking about starting as a pet groomer myself.. As my own business or at the vet.. but do you need education for this?

And how do you get it, if that's the case?

I'm already good at grooming, cutting the fur etc etc.. Thanks for answers :)

  • i have a qusetion. How can u tell if ur pom is pregnant??

  • She gets fatter? maybe she needs to go to the vet.

  • She skips a heat or stops her heat early

  • My pom is also terrified of noises and the vacuum, so I use scissors on top of a comb to cut his hair. It's takes 1-2 hours but he loves it and he 's always very happy with his new hair cut. If I try to cut his claws he shows his teeth. Some times his just impossible.

  • That is one docile pom!

Mine see's me coming, armed with brush, comb, scissors and nail clippers, does 25 rounds of the front room, and disapears into his crate!

  • dazzledog6

  • THAT'S A VERY DISCIPLINED DOG!!!

  • He has to be rugby tackled to get him in the bath, and a hairdryer is a no no,he bolts under the bed.

  • That is a very well behaved dog, mine is called tiger, for a very good reason.

  • Hi Diana,

Thank you so much for your very informational video. I have always groomed my own Pom but after watching your video I have found this is a better way. Have a great valentine's day.

  • Some times i get scared of clipping my dogs nails but i have to do it. Im scared ill cut the quick. Plus Poms have black nails :S but ill learn :D

  • great vid! thanks a lot

  • That pom is so well-behaved. I can barely groom mine without chasing him around the house first.

  • great video , someone who actually cares about your dog when its being groomed . i live on the other side of the world . i wish this person was here in australia.

  • heLLO! maybe because they are groomed very differently. I mean think about it... I professionally show poms with my mom and they are groomed very differently then this. This is a pet clip, you would never shave or do any of this stuff to your show pom.

  • this should be called "GROOMING A PET POM" because show poms are groomed much definetly, and sorry, but to look prettier. I would know I show and groom my poms.

  • Maybe you should open your eyes and read the title. "PET GROOMING". How is that any different than "GROOMING A PET POM"?..

  • cats have that anal gland too, I have to empty it all the time.

  • Can you tell me a brand name for the de-matting comb shown, & where it's available?

  • does anyone know if the pedipaws type nail trimmers work?ive seen both the manual and electric versions at the store and was just wondering if they work well or at all?anyone try them?

  • I have the PediPaws and I dont like it. My dogs didnt mind it but I found it didnt have enough power. It would be OK if you clipped first and used the PediPaws to round over the end of the nail. Id give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

  • okay,good to know.Thanks

  • My pom is terrified of the sound of the motor... actually he is afraid of most things. I think he's part chicken. lol!!! So basically mine is just sitting there not getting any use at all.

  • shes using the wrong kind of nail trimmers. those are cat nail siccors. guillotines are the worst thing to use though.

  • Did you know there is a better way to nail cliped a dogs nail..its called peddypaws

  • I got a tiny pom she 10yr love to take bath she hate to have her nail clip...like your video..

  • The color and coat of this dog definately resembles a Pomeranian. Poms were modified in England in the 1800's and bred down from 28lbs. to 4 lbs. I checked out pictures of both the Italian Volpino and the German Spitz and and their coats are slightly shorter and tails longer. I think that the groomer is correct that this is an example of a large Pom. I enjoyed the video and thought it was informative.

  • IT's sooooooooo cuuuute! after it got washed! I LOVE POMERANIANS!!!

  • Hi there is Diana going to make anymore dog grooming videos???? I'm training to become a dog groomer back in the Ireland and really enjoyed watching her videos.

  • Thank you,Diana! Your video was the most helpful guide I've ever come across. I followed all of your advice and my little Roscoe looks great! I was particularly glad to learn more about trimming his nails. I was always afraid of hurting him and his nails were way too long. He feels a lot better now :) Bless you

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I especially enjoyed learning how to use the thinning shears...those have been a mystery to me and now that I know how to use them, my Pom is going to look so much better. This was a great video.

  • I like the dremmel myself better for the same reason. It is much harder to hit the quick with a dremmel.

  • i meen, like not all sizes, but they don't neceserily have to be tiny.

(soz I realised wat i sed about "all sizes" was wrong, so i just wanted to correct my last comment)

  • No, thats definitly a pom, they come in all sizes, and all colours.

  • it is a pom and if you check your facts the average is 3-7 lbs not a maximum. They can weigh as much as 15 lbs depending on alot of factors.

  • that is a pomeranian, they do come in differant sizes,i have a little male pom and he is very tiny even for a pom,he waighs 3lbs,and yes he is a pure bred pom!

  • That is not even a pom - its a Volpino! Why do even professionals get the dogs wrong? My Volpino Italiano would never sit still like that! I've been taking him to groomers for 12 years now and I've been under the impression that "he's been so well behaved...". Until I took him to another lady that told me he would not let her near him, and that he is incredibly hand-shy. I always knew he was a bit of a firecracker at home, so I've been wondering how the groomers could cope with him so well.?

  • i was thinking german spitz definatly not a pom

  • Volpinos are only white though, so if your dog is red/sable then it has to be a pomeranian ( like the one in the video ). Pomeranians can be white too.

  • i cant belive a groomer would even consider using anything but clippers to do the pads.....way to easy to cut the dogs pads....also not a good idea to use your fingers to pull the hair a comb would leave a much nicer finish

  • it is a standard pom...there is a small breed tho but there is no such thing as teacup poms.

  • Yes it's a pom. Poms come in many different sizes and no there is no such thing as a Toy. Standard poms that you see in shows are just that, standard.

This is a great grooming video Diana! Thank you!

  • That dog is too large to be a pom. I think it is a kleinspitz or a mittelspitz(small or medium German spitz).

  • Oh my, he's very well behaved! my pom is manic all the time! Even when he is sleeping!lol My dog is very messy looking, just like that dog at the beginning, i was too scared to cut his long fur, but i will try now! thank you very much for helping!!! though that dog looks more like a klein spitz than a pom bcos of his size! could be the camera mind you, but thanks anyway!

  • It is a pomeranian gosh

  • She is really rought. That dog is really well behaved though. I don't like how she did the rear... it was so choppy looking.

  • ino yer it was all over the place she shouldnt be a dog groomer

  • Very helpful, thank-you.

Not so sure about draining the anal sack though!?

  • why was there a hammer next to the table when she was drying him off? maybe he was behaved because he knew if he acted up he was going to get the shit beat out of him.

  • Good info, i'm getting a male pomi in one week.

  • what a beautiful Pommie and so well behaved!

  • no are you stupid

  • she was preety good.. did everything really fast..

there was alot of useful tips..

  • Didn't you notice that she left that dog on the table without a leash! She's lucky that it didn't jump off the table :(

  • This is great a great tip because I'm having a Pomeranian dog sooner.

  • she is not hurting the dog at all. she knows what she is doing

  • This dog is SO good! My dog would FREAK OUT if I tried to do all that to him!

  • Very nice video showing the basics of grooming as well as all of the work that goes in to a tidy grooming job.

  • If only they were all that good for a groom. When a dog is matted.. It means the hair gets knotted up. Please brush your dog daily.. theres nothing a groomer hates worse than a matted dog!

  • amen!

  • wow that pom is really well behaved!

  • Are poms easy to train and how are they with other animals like cats? I cant make up my mind between a pom and a Papillon.I dont want a aggressive dog PLEASE HELP. Great video.
