  • Captain Johan Lindeman is a great man

  • Awesome movie but did you by any chance take out some clips because I remember watching this on TV a couple of years ago and there is one clip of Tokaya telling his family to reach for higher grounds and that he would look for them.

  • @SolarisDeLuna - Hi there! In regard to the clip that you mentioned, that segment would have been included in "Krakatoa: The Last Days, Clip 1 - Tsunami" (watch?v=UQdxFHmaKP0 or watch?v=e0nky4I35xo). But back then, YT had a 10 minute limit on videos so I couldn't include everything. I decided to just focus on the tsunami itself because including the Tokaya and family segment would have gone over the 10 minute limit.

  • @MelodyOfVision I'd love to see the full documentary, instead of just clips. Can you put up the full documentary?

  • i live in Scotland closest volcano to me is Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh which is approximately 12 miles away. Thank god it's extinct lol

  • i have to go get this movie I forgot how incredible it is.... makes me glad the nearest volcano to me is Yellowstone...which is nearly a thousand miles away. Still not far enough for my tastes but anyone living near one should stop and think how powerful those eruptions are. And than Whatever you believe in it's sleeping.

  • good heavens. I thought i was crazy living in tornado alley. I hope people have plenty of warning before Krakatoa's son erupts.

  • fuckin' jerks.....that captain saved all there lives, and only one girl gives him a kiss

  • The film was moving aswell as the music score, thought provoking especially when you live within sight of a volcano. When you have the things around you then have it taken away makes it more the need to think what is more important in life and be thankful. But just because we don't live near one doesn't mean you escape natures grasp there are other cataclysmic events that can happen. The loudest noise if it was heard 3000 miles away what it must have been like 20-30 miles away. Phew!

  • Uhhhh... yeah, this house is a great deal! It even has a great view of.... a mountain... yeah, lets call it that. What's that? It looks bigger than it did yesterday? That's as crazy as the price this house is going for! *packing bags*

  • 1:00: What's the name of that woman in the story, who lost her whole family? The one whom the scientist is saying: "I'm sorry"?

  • @qwuezalothus - Catharine Schuit. The lightkeeper husband is Jacob Schuit. And the boy, their son was Josef Schuit. In the real account, it was the lightkeeper who survived and the wife and son were lost. Maybe the movie had the wife survive just to surprise the people who already knew the story.

  • @MelodyOfVision

    I see. It must've been a storytwist.

  • you do know edingbourgh castle is built on a volcano extint thought

  • did the island and volcano vanish after it and why did krakatoa was destroyed

  • hahahahahahahaha it's very funy i like the part when they all got burn hahaha

  • why did they have to burn the bodies

  • A few questions: 1) In this movie, the tsunami first hits the land, then all the people on land go in further. Then later, the tsunami passes the boat. Is that a second tsunami or they're just showing the even for different people?

    2) The woman on the beach who went after the dog--she avoided the wave, but how did she avoid the pyroclastic flow? Because at that closeness, by the beach, she would have died, no?

    3) Did the tsunami move a little slow for the movie's sake?

    Thanks. Let me know.

  • @questionman5 - Hi there. Just read the descriptions to the videos. They explains a lot - there was more than one tsunami. for example. Concerning the pyroclastic surge, since people only recorded about it affecting Ketimbang (which was northeast of Krakatoa), that's what the movie focused on. The lighthouse was on the east of Krakatoa, much farther away, and there was no record of the flow reaching it. As to the last question, I don't know! :o)

  • learning is fun! :D I've always loved Geology and History

  • so sad

  • Well done.

  • One should note that the 1883 eruption was the second big bang in the geological history of the island. "Original Krakatoa," which was hypothesized as a single volcanic cone, blew up 60,000 yrs. ago (when Neanderthals and wooly mammoths still roamed the earth) and created the first caldera. The 1833 eruption produced a second caldera. Anak Krakatoa, which appeared in the 1930's, is the volcano's equivalent to Crater Lake's Wizard Island.

  • This movie was awesome. It looked so convincing. The background music for when the ship goes over the wave fit the drama in that seen. All in all, it was a good movie. - Posted by Johnny

  • I love the music in this clip

  • @Velganice I know! Especially the piano piece. This docu-drama is a work of art. Really captures the essence of fear and the power of narture. It's amazing how frail yet how strong human beings truly are.

  • Haha, now that's one brutal captain!

"Well, I've just spent the last couple of days inhaling ash and sulfur... I think I'll have a smoke."

  • All clips are good and touches, and I'm thinking about what if Anak Krakatau eruption like this, will it become big disaster ! when it will come ? no body know.

  • that was amazing, i cried

  • BRAVO BRAVO!!! wow, true life stories really do change you life. And now Anak Krakato is growing up like his elder . Imagine that History repeating itself once more , declaring that earth is the boss not us humans.

  • This is only A VEI 6... imgaine... yellowstone is going to be at least a VEI 10! That will definately destroy north america!

  • @OneOfThree101 VEI 8 is the highest level, so no, VEI 10 won't happen. I actually think scales above VEI 8 would be redundant anyway, seeing how we'd be doomed enough at that level of eruption. It would be like devising a scale to determine the level of deadness - "somewhat dead, normally dead or very dead". It wouldn't make a difference.

  • @OneOfThree101

Yes but according to research, Anak Krakatau is much more likely to create a supervolcanic eruption than Yellowstone. And also, Anak Krakatau will be even more violent than Krakatoa. Add millions of people around the shorelines, and you my friend, have the worst disaster recorded in modern times.

  • @BCSpore

You are correct, but stilll when you say Anak Krakatoa is more likely to produce a VEI 8, thats illogical. Yellowstone is proven to create a supereruption while krakatoa isnt. But the problem is, scientists believe that Anak Krakatoa could erupt any day at any time. When it comes to volcanoes, there are 2 big blind spots, timing and scale.

  • @BCSpore Anak Krakatoa will eventually create a super volcano but the chances of that happening in out life time are pretty small. super volcano's happen once every 500 - 1000 years if im not mistaken, correct me if im wrong.

  • Anak Krakatau is growing at a rate of 5 metres a year and continuing, this will be history repeating itself again one day and it has the potential of being just as bad as its father if not worse, it is like all seismic and volcanic activity its not a matter of if but when

  • Indeed, I agree. Scientists fear that Anak Krakatoa might blow with a force of VEI 7 rather than VEI 6 that Krakatoa itself did in 1883. Also, the Rakata vent was not destroyed in the eruption and scientists have said that ancient vent from 1883 is also becoming active. Part of Anak Krakatoa's father remains with the son... now that is scary.

  • That won't do much of a difference. They would have at most ~10 minutes warning. Not enough. If it's a pyroclastic flow you'd need at least a headstart of 30 mins to barely outrun it in car. Even with the best equipement, there are still two things experts can't tell; when and how big. The early warning system is there to tell you 'It's starting" right before it blow up in your face.

  • very scary ...but A WHOLE MOVIE WOULD HAVE BEEN FANTASTIK !!

  • wow...

  • There is a video of a small eruption of Krakatoa in the videos on the right, entitled "Krakatau erupts up close!!!!" Notice the pyroclastic flows running down the side of the mountain.

  • Yeah, I saw it - amazing! The flow looked harmless, but imagine it on a grander scale and crossing the water!

  • Good to hear that the captain of the ship got rewarded for his incredible bravery.

  • Yeah, he was awesome!

  • i nearly cried after watching the 6th one!!! :( i feel Sooooo Sorry 4 them all eSpecially that family of 4

  • Son Of Krakatoa or we call it Gunung Anak Krakatau,,,

  • which makes me ask this question.. why the hell would anyone live within 100 miles of the " SON " of krakatoa

  • Well, I can understand your alarm, but when Krakatoa isn't active, that area is actually very beautiful!

Since scientists are monitoring its activity, I expect the Indonesian government to be able to devise an emergency plan to evacuate the coastal areas as far as perhaps 50 miles inland at the first sign of trouble. And yes, this is a plea to the Indonesian government to set this up if they already haven't done so!

  • They need to. I read somewhere that it is building up slowly but surely. I wouldn't be surprised if it explodes more powerfully then Krakatoa did.

  • because its their way of life i guess, or something to do with religeon

  • it is sayang to those who have lived there their whole life. I had a girlfriend who is from Bali

  • so good , we watched it in geography class..during the ship scene i was like : Mr Green is this as bad or worst than the titanic ( destruction) ? he said : i have no idea what that means !!

  • absolutely fascinating!
