if u were really picky u would have said i need the computer to be fast, reliable, virus free have long battery life a webcam, aluminum body, worlds most stable operating system and be bundled with software, and you would have picked a mac
@themacfan16 dumbass macs get viruses to, some pcs do have aluminum battery, hela great battery, a webcam(in hd to) and a software......and 3 times more powerful for less than 2x the price....tard
@themacfan16 Linux is more stable then OS X. And almost every PC now is bundled with software, or else you would get "OS NOT FOUND" or as you mac fanboys call it, "Blinking ?". And Macs are slow and do break. My old dell from 1997 still works.
@HaloSpartanG13 yea and my old imac g3 still fucking works. My old ibook still works and yea linux is great i dual boot it, but i will never run another os that is not unix based, and pc's are just made so cheaply with plastic and low grade parts so they can get them as cheap as possible, apple does not do this, i have never had one of my macs break, except for a hard drive failure in and older imac thats it
MACS are great computers and they run Windows too(the intel ones anyway). Battery life is around 8 to 10 hours. I wonder how much battery time you would get out of the model the actor bought? 4 hours max probably if you spend more money to get the higher rated battery. My 3 year old 17" laptop gives me barely 2 and a half hours and that is a 7800mah battery I imported from Hong Kong(mind you thats better than the 1 hour and 25 minutes I was getting the 4400mah battery that came with the laptop).
If all these people weren't actors (They ARE!), I wonder if they would still hand me the cash for a Macbook. They would probably take me out behind the best buy and break my typing hand :(
macbook pro/13: for around 1200, 2yr old core 2 duo 8600 2.4ghz... ram n vid card i guess are ok. for 1200 on a pc, we can probably find something like i7 720qm quad core, ati 5730 vid card, etc on an asus.
Nah, I don't bash on Macs, but Microsoft -Had- to do something I think. I mean, Apple did start the war didn't they? They're the reason most people get out of line, and give false information to argue about both the Operating systems.. ^.^
@DickKnowsBest Wow, you really work hard to make that hardcore 83 IQ head shine through your posts, don't you? :) I mean, you're GOOD at this blatant stupidity stuff.
@DickKnowsBest My mouse IS working properly, and is doing exactly what it should. If you're on a Mac, however, you can plug in whatever high-end gaming mouse, it is still infected with mouse acceleration from OSX. Just try a gaming mouse on Win and then Mac.
Like everything - its horses for courses, we all do something different.
I need a computer that handles typography, the PC still uses true type, ironically designed by Apple. Its almost 20 years old and the PC hasn't moved since.
Apple is way ahead for typographers where fonts still look shitty on a PC.
However if I wanted something cheaper, asymmetric, with more flashing lights than a pinball machine, 2 inches thick and 'features' that did nothing in particular - I'd go for the PC any day.
The base model MacBook Pro meets those specs for $1199. Given the software that comes with it (iLife), lack of need for antivirus and the smoother, more efficient operating system I'd take the Mac any day.
@nifedj That's one YEAR after the video was released. A huge amount of time in computing terms. You'd find models with these specs in the budget range now at ~$800
@nifedj Mac (youre comparing 13" vs 16" and the 2010 model to a 2009 pc = unfair you should compare the 2009 mac): 13 inch 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo 256 mb vram 320M/9300M - 2010/2009 1280x800 $1199 PC: 16 inch 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo 512 mb vram Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT (Faster than Mac 2010 320M and muuuuch faster than the 9300M on the Mac 2009 which is the actual competitor since the Mac 2010 didnt even come out yet) 1920x1080 Full HD $1099 = PC is faster + cheaper, even though they are a year apart.
@K2ACP That was my point, idiot. He was comparing the base Macbook Pro (the base is the 13" inch) with this HP HDX (which is 16"inch) so I said it was an unfair test.
@nifedj yes and i'm sure its great for games, and has a non arrendale spu, and an interchangable gpu... sure, i have a laptop with 100ghz and it only cost me 2 bucks
@nifedj Mac's are good for work and partially media, not great for anything else...And they're so expensive compared to the actual specs...Feels like you pay extra for the design and the apple logo :P
@xillian14 work & media 100% what else are you supposed to do on a computer. games? macs have tons of good games, contrary to popular belief, not as many as pc, but it does
@nifedj gianopopo <- this guy knows no shit about macs. and why the FUCK were those macs still running tiger???? 2009, it's leopard or snow leopard, that store is an EPIC FAIL
@DavosMoon I've had my Mac for 6 months or so, I know people who've had one for years, they don't get viruses. There are technical reasons (eg. lack of System 32), and Apple would have been sued to no end if they claimed wrongly in their ads that their computers don't get viruses.
@nifedj even so, it will primarily depend on what your doing on line with any computer...as long as your not dipping into torrents on a regular basis or browsing through potentially illegal stuff most computers are usually fine mac or windows alike.
@DavosMoon Sure, being smart can keep you from getting viruses. Macs don't get viruses anyway, although i haven't tested mine personally with doing illegal stuff ;)
@nifedj - The laptop he was looking for obviously had a larger screen than 13". The base model MBP with a "15 display is $1,799 - which was not within his budget.
@nifedj First of all, this ad is one and a half year old. Thats big difference in PC market (well not in macs, lol). Apart from that, macs are gay and so are you
@DomelBf2PL First of all, my comment is 3 months old. That's a long time for you to find an example of a PC that deals with the points I actually made (well not for idiots, lol). Apart from that, I will continue to hold the belief that PC users are not universally stupid, despite your best efforts to prove other wise.
It's not the PC users that are universally stupid, it's the fanclub that jumps around bashing everything that could possibly be compared to it.
Same is said for the Mac fanclub. It's not the users I hate, it's the fanclub that's... Fighting for mac? I really don't get it. These people aren't being payed th advertise. Stfu and go play on your Computer..Or whatever you might use it for. <.<
@nifedj - The entry level MBP with a 13" display is $1199. You can't touch a MBP with a 15" display for under $1799. The last laptop he looked had at least a 15" display. As for the smoother, more efficient operating system - well that is just your opinion.
@nifedj I'm with you on that one. And you know what, everyone has there own opinion right. If people wanna buy a PC (Piece of Crap) then let them. But people who like easy computing and great performance get a mac. Bill Gates uses a MacBook Pro 15". I saw it on his desk, most of the employees at Microsoft use macs. Some use PC's but most use Mac. It's because Microsoft only markets the software and OS not the machine it runs on.

most powerful mac = ati 4870 or 4x gt120 < mac pro whereas you can get up to 4 x gtx 480 from nvidia or 4x 5970 from ati if u got enough pcie slots. macs are limited, with windows, theres no limit.
@minh10091995 go for ATI now they are the best again! the 5950s even overpower the GTX480s :) i mean ATI have better cards for cheaper prices now Nvidia really need to get their designing shoes back on :) and they will never have direct x 11 hehehe you used it yet? :) its awwessomee
@PwnedByTheBANZAAAI + @theykilledkenny8 Well go celebrate because finaly few organizations decided to give Mac OS gaming a go, because there is a lot of spoiled teenagers who got Mac for Christmas :D
@mandowarrior123 combine that with being worth more than microsoft now and i'd say their doing pretty well. most market share doesnt mean best products ;)
@MyBrainIsMush least market share does seem to be higher prices and to convince people they need a new one every 6 months. im not debating their sheer ability to sell crap. they make good business sense, not consumer sense
@mandowarrior123 you cant underestimate good marketing. if you cant trick stupid people into thinking they need your product every half year you cant be expected to make much profit, doesnt matter if your name is microsoft or apple
@AppleTechReviews You know, with the talk you're spewing you are not living up to the credibility your name lends you. But then again, what screams fanboy more than putting "apple" anywhere near your username, amirite?
omg wayne? it sucks that you have to pay money for an update wehn you have paid 3000 § for a pc with worse hardware... Apple pcs are tooooooo expensiv ... its simply to expensiv... and that is what apple dont get... Some people only want to surf in the internet or something like that and dont want to pay 3000$ for that...
They are getting more equal in terms of hardware but only because Apple is dropping their own hardware line in favour of using Intel components. Intel, which has long been the staple brand behind PCs and is frequently partnered with Microsoft.
Why do this? Because Intel builds what Apple needs cheeper and better. Then Apple can drop its own brand, whith a legacy of poor quality and problems, without dropping their prices because they've established themselves as a fashionable brand-name.
skype is there on mac... dont use icq.. im not sure if thats there... but there r too many alternatives that do the same stuff.. its like saying ichat is not there on windows... wouldnt be a strong argument.
i think its all about wats more expensive in the long run.. gerenally not every one is a computer geek... people end up paying hundreds on reinstallation of windows, antiviruses and registry cleaners... it wouldnt be wrong to say that after buying win 7 many pc users would have still leveled the cost with macs.. everyone hated vista... and not all of us are pirates :D
Why would anyone pay hundreds on re-installations of windows? a system restore would solve most problems, and the repair on the windows disc will fix anything else. Anyone with even basic pc knowledge can do both. reinstalling OSX requires the same level of ability.
As for Antiviruses, you're probably paying $100 over 4 years, $100 does not level the cost difference, assuming you're not running an antivirus on a Mac, which you should as they are susceptible to malware.
1. visit websites of computer repairs companies for finding out how much they charge for resolving software issues.. some even charge outrageous hourly rate... if what ur saying was true in everyone's case... they wud have been out of business by now.. windows restore doesnt solve severe issues.. format is the solution in the end.
2. Cost of upgrading the OS: Upgrading to windows 7 is gonna cost u $200 (full version $300).. whereas snow leopard( full version) is $30.. a windows 7 capable computer's cost + the upgrade cost comes very close to mac+ cost of snowleopard. sake of argument OS crashes... time machine is the solution (fixes everything!)
Upgrading to Windows 7 costs $70, even the full retail version is only about $100. I don't know where you get the $200 price tag from.
And Snow Leopard is not $30. When you buy a Mac the cost of OSX is bundled in with the price, just as it is with a Windows PC. You are paying $30 for an upgrade.
A windows XP/Vista machine plus a Win 7 upgrade is only $30 more than a Mac plus Snow Leopard upgrade. Hardly justifies the several hundred dollar price difference.
@arthmus01 Where did u get those figures from? Windows 7 prices from the Microsoft Website: Full version: Home premium: $199 professional: $299 ultimate: $319 upgrade (from XP or Vista): Home premium: $119 professional: $199 ultimate: $219 Apple wants $29 to upgrade to 10.6 snow leopard from 10.5 leopard or 10.4 tiger. (officially only from 10.5 but u can upgrade from 10.4 without any problems.)
Also time machine is just a Volume Snapshot Service using a remote disk. Windows has this service built into the OS and you can choose to use a partition on the same disk, a different drive or an external drive.
System restore peforms exactly the same function as time machine, and system restore or Windows repair will fix almost any issue. The only reason you need to reformat is if you have a corrupted file system, which is extremely rare and usually down to a hardware fault.
You mean PC repair companies rip people off *shock*. I know the prices they charge, i used to work for one, and i know they are not needed in 90% of cases. But that doesn't make a difference since they charge the same for a windows install as they do for an OSX install.
typical iZombie statement. "They get viruses...waaaaa" stop quoting those obnoxious commercials (which you pay for in the bloated price tag of Apple hardware, btw). I built my own PCs and have several units running for years without a virus. You have to be a freekin' 'tard to get viruses these days.
Actually, that might be why Mac keeps pushing the point with their own customer base. lol
@BearBoi69 apple bloated price tag? try watching video on apple making there hardware and you'd see the engineering and precision that goes into them, why dont microsoft make PCs? because theres no profit in hardware there is in software and charge you £80 to upgrade from vista to 7 should be free as a good will gesture for having to use vista. not to mention £150-250 for an OS for the full version thats a bloated price tag
But I can install it on any platform I want, which I can build myself using components from virtually any manufacturer, bought new or second-hand, thus cutting out the middle man and more importantly not being chained to Apple.
When you buy a Mac you dont own the computer; you are just paying a dowry for the privilege of living with it.
Oh, and my Windows 7 can run all the latest games. ;)
Congratulations. You can run windows based applications via a bootstrapped emulator... on an otherwise overpriced computer. It probably cost $60 to make in China. Making a product "trendy" comes with a big price tag, which they pass on to you. ;)
By the way, I can run Leopard on the PC I built myself... not that I'd want to. ;P
My PC can run Blu-Rays. And a webcam that doesn't suck. And full HD while still being a laptop. AND I don't have to pay extra for a matte screen (or the Apple on the back).
@PowerTorsk yea, the only thing going for pcs is blu ray. i would prefer it in the macs, but having it hooked up to the tv is alright for now ;) MBPs are full HD, and the webcam doesn't suck, it's great. if you want an excellent cam, you buy an external one. matte screens i don't like :O they're a bit dull. glossy screens are viabrant and nobody makes better glossy laptop screens than apple
@K2ACP Do you have problems with recognizing colors properly? Have you ever SEEN a good matte screen? I mean...Apple makes decent glossy screens and all...but have you seen a MBP with a matte screen? My teacher has it, and it blows anything else outta the water. And have you noticed ANY expensive computer screen not being matte? Didn't think so.
@PowerTorsk iMac screen are NOT matte. yes, i have seen a good matte screen- on a MBP, a few weeks ago. they are really hard to clean though, there's that unnecessary bevel, and i am typing on a glossy screen right now, you wont notice any reflections once you get used to it. I don't like matte, well the Apple matte, i didn't check PC matte screens, i think they are crap, sure if you want accurate colors, for photoshop or aperture, but for general use, glossy all the way
@PowerTorsk will it also last for ten years, be safe from viruses with no need for resource intensive antivirus, come with an office suite for spreadsheets word processing with easy to use templates, and presentations for free? will it be built of quality parts that won't fail on you, require drivers for peripherals, and have a screen with a higher resolution than almost all pc laptops of the same size? and will it have a trackpad capable of numerous gestures useful in apps like photoshop?
Only you dumbasses Googling for "free music downloads" get viruses. I don't even notice my FREE Antivirus which barely leaves a footprint on the RAM. And don't even go there with Office. MS Office is so far and beyond anything Apple have ever dreamed of making. For instance, what do you Mac-users use instead of OneNote?
And why the hell would I wanna have a laptop for ten years? I have this thing called "job" that helps me upgrade my computer more often then the decades pass.
@PowerTorsk so you can save your money for something else instead of a computer. powermac g4's still work great for internet use and you can have one for 300 that will do everything a normal user needs without worrying about viruses, malware and registry errors. here's a question for you- who uses onenote? i own it as part of the office home and student 2007 suite and see no purposefulness for it. nothing that a "new notebook" can't do in office word for mac.
@KingofComputing Well if you do anything else than surfing and document editing on your computer, you need to upgrade at least once every five years to don't fall off the bandwagon (ie. gaming, watching full HD video while doing other stuff, Photoshop...or any media application at all).
OneNote is good for creative work. When you have an idea or when you're working with other people who use SharePoint, it's great.
@PowerTorsk once again, how many people use things like onenote and sharepoint? isn't that like part of ms expression web or something? i feel that ms makes so many useless applications. like what is windows cardspace? i always get the update to that on my grandmothers vista computer and don't see what it's usefulness is. the hd stuff is nothing a gpu upgrade can't do. right now a 8 year old g4 mdd with dual 1.42ghz processors, and a radeon 9800 mac edition with 2gb of ram is fine for that stuff
@KingofComputing I didn't know you could upgrade the GPU on a laptop...? At least not a newer one. AFAIK, the GPU, CPU are soldered to the motherboard. As is the soundcard.
Even if you can, how can you survive the horror that is old Macbook screens and mouse pads?
@PowerTorsk well i have an acer aspire laptop and i opened it up, popped out the cpu and upgraded it to a dual core processor in ten minutes, changed the ram, and cleaned the heatsink on the gpu, but i didn't try to take it apart. i'm sure that you can easily replace them on certain motherboards, especially the discrete graphics not necesserialy the integrated ones. and who watches hd movies on a laptop to start with? you can't get the resolution unless you're on a 17" so it's pointless.
@PowerTorsk they have what is considered hd because it is above 720p but they lack true hd 1080p. most 15's are 1366*768 or 1440*900 but far and few are 1920*1080 which is a big difference pixel wise. if 1920*1080 is 2,073,600 pixels and 1440*900 is 1,296,000 pixels that "small difference" is really a loss of over 37.5% less pixels, which greatly affects picture quality. also processors aren't listed as changeable because they're not "user serviceable" but they're replaceable for repair purposes
@PowerTorsk And your computer freezes, have 4-5 h of battery, is made of aluminium not plastic, have strong WiFi, trackpad with lots of tricks and of course its for years. My next MBP for 5000zł thats 1500$.
@pawelo81 My computer never freezes. And I can get all those things you listed for a cheaper price than a MBP, only with a better processor, better graphics card and DirectX 11 gameplay. And I almost forgot.... 8GB RAM and 500 GB hybrid HDD.
@PowerTorsk Only thing is you don't get the better operating system that the Mac offers and the better software bundle. Macs give you everything you need right out of the box. Not to mention, you get a better design in the process. If you can afford a Mac, I'd seriously suggest buying one. You can't go wrong buying a Mac. Plus, you won't have to worry about those pesky viruses.
@blicksflicks Are you kidding me? Go google mouse acceleration and see why Mac suck ass for speedy power users. And wtf is up with no 1080p matte screens? How can I do graphic work.
For MUCH less, I can get myself an SSD eqipped, i7 pakcking race car for video editing. And don't give me shit about Final Cut Pro. There is a reason AVID'ss DVD about learning to switch from Final Cut Pro to AVID is sold out at their online store all the time.
@PowerTorsk Mouse acceleration. There's applications for mouse acceleration on the Mac. There's a free one called Mouse Acceleration Preference Pane for Mac. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Also, if you want to mess with your mouse more, you can always get SteerMouse for the Mac. I have it. It works great! As for 1080p matte screens, you can hook up any monitor to a Mac. You don't have to use an Apple Cinema monitor. Last, Avid will never come close to Final Cut Pro. Get real!
@blicksflicks I won't get into the discussion of AVID vs FCP. Either way, it doesn't matter, since I don't need all the super-advanced features (yet). I only need speedy editing tools, which Premiere Pro is more than good enough for.
I need an awesome 1080p matte screen, and sadly, I actually need it (more than I want it, lol). I need to be able to work from home and school, without byuing anther screen for each place.
Lastly, I don't wanna hack my mouse to get it almost good enough.
@theykilledkenny8 The funny thing is that some mac users say that they can run any game with bootcamp, and therfore Mac dont suck...but you run Windows when using bootcamp soo... xP
Yes we can... with ideneb we can use OSX on PC this is free and supports a lot of setups thanks to the exra drivers included, there is also ideneb lite if you want to use OSX on a netbook.
if you want to spend money and build your own PC with hardware commonly found in apples there is EFI-X.
@SCHIZOPHRENlC i know that. and anybody who knows mac's boot camp and install windows onto it, def knows how to install osx on a pc. not to mention multiple os since you have such a big hdd at half the price.
Neither Apple, HP, Dell, Lenovo or any other manufacturer make their hardware. Everything is made by component manufacturers, from the processor to the chassis. The Foxconn motherboard inside a Macbook is made in exactly the same factory, using exactly the same engineering and precision as a Foxconn motherboard in a HP notebook.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
did he really said macs are more looks than power?!?!? omg! that guy knows nothing bout computerssss... hate this ad... i mean i have a pc... a dell xps and i love it but i have to recognize that macs are great!
are you an idiot. Macs are about aesthetics but computing power is all in there. For $1500 you could go all the way to the 15 inch mac pros with a much better history of software, and the worlds best operating system. You get 7 hours battery life on macs, and my pc only has 2 hours.
I don't get where the "much better history of software" and the "worlds best operating system" comes from, but you're entitled to your opinion I suppose
On the other hand, the 15" MBP start at $1700, but assuming you can pick them up $200 cheaper somewhere, their specs are equal to an $800 Dell or HP. And if battery life is that important a Lenovo X series gets nearly double the MBP at nearly 13 hours, has similar specs and cost almost $100 less.
dude you got ripped off if you bought a macbook you would go over your limit but $100 more for apple care, better portability, 5 hours of battery life but power I can't tell but I would say mac has way more power
@Vadim86738 They're trying to prove that PC's are move powerful when it comes to heavy tasks such as gaming and high end applications. He bought an HP HDX, 17" laptop. I'm pretty sure hes using it as a desktop replacement, not a portable machine, meaning why would he even care how long the battery lasts.
If he bought a Macbook he would not only go over his budget, he would also be spending at least $400 more than the $1100 this laptop cost.
As for power, he's looking at least $2000 for a Macbook with the same specs as that HDX 16t, $900 more than he paid, and for what? 3 hours better battery life, which he could get from a replacement extended battery for less than $100.
@arthmus01 he wants portability dude. specs are HEAVILY priced on size. Macs are over $100 cheaper than comparable counterparts. My 13" macbook was $199.99 cheaper than an HP with a SMALLER hard drive. (all the other specs matched). At least with apple you get a good METAL design.
It's true that in most cases potability and power are a tradeoff for each other, but in this case clearly power was more important to him than portability.
I'd be interested to know what "comparable counterparts" cost over $100 more than a Mac, because I've never come across one.
for example, the $919 13" HP dm3t compared to the 13" $1,199 MBP, with the same CPU, similar GPU, 1GB more RAM and double the HDD capacity and a decent 5 hour battery life, and comes in nearly $200 cheaper.
@arthmus01 And the software? BTW saying "slightly low res" is actually a pretty big thing. Some companies (like dell) charge like $199 to upgrade a 15" laptop from 1280 x 800 (a 13.3" resolution) to 1440 x 900 (a decent 15" res).
I didn't know Dell did 15" laptops in those resolutions. Dell use the HD standard now on most of their laptops (720p hd, 900p hd+, 1080p fhd) and to go from a 720p to a 900p (1600x900) on say an inspiron cost $75, i don't know where you get your information from.
As for software you get a 15 month antivirus subscription and Microsoft Works. But with $700 saving you can buy whatever software you want. You could get an equivalent to the iLife suite for about $100, still $600 cheaper.
Macs and consumer PCs suck. Custom gaming PC ftw.

@DavosMoon I've had my Mac for 6 months or so, I know people who've had one for years, they don't get viruses. There are technical reasons (eg. lack of System 32), and Apple would have been sued to no end if they claimed wrongly in their ads that their computers don't get viruses.

DeepMaster123123 1 year ago
They are getting more equal in terms of hardware but only because Apple is dropping their own hardware line in favour of using Intel components. Intel, which has long been the staple brand behind PCs and is frequently partnered with Microsoft.
Why do this? Because Intel builds what Apple needs cheeper and better. Then Apple can drop its own brand, whith a legacy of poor quality and problems, without dropping their prices because they've established themselves as a fashionable brand-name.

i think its all about wats more expensive in the long run.. gerenally not every one is a computer geek... people end up paying hundreds on reinstallation of windows, antiviruses and registry cleaners... it wouldnt be wrong to say that after buying win 7 many pc users would have still leveled the cost with macs.. everyone hated vista... and not all of us are pirates :D
umairyc 1 year ago
Why would anyone pay hundreds on re-installations of windows? a system restore would solve most problems, and the repair on the windows disc will fix anything else. Anyone with even basic pc knowledge can do both. reinstalling OSX requires the same level of ability.
As for Antiviruses, you're probably paying $100 over 4 years, $100 does not level the cost difference, assuming you're not running an antivirus on a Mac, which you should as they are susceptible to malware.
arthmus01 1 year ago
1. visit websites of computer repairs companies for finding out how much they charge for resolving software issues.. some even charge outrageous hourly rate... if what ur saying was true in everyone's case... they wud have been out of business by now.. windows restore doesnt solve severe issues.. format is the solution in the end.
umairyc 1 year ago
2. Cost of upgrading the OS: Upgrading to windows 7 is gonna cost u $200 (full version $300).. whereas snow leopard( full version) is $30.. a windows 7 capable computer's cost + the upgrade cost comes very close to mac+ cost of snowleopard. sake of argument OS crashes... time machine is the solution (fixes everything!)
umairyc 1 year ago
Upgrading to Windows 7 costs $70, even the full retail version is only about $100. I don't know where you get the $200 price tag from.
And Snow Leopard is not $30. When you buy a Mac the cost of OSX is bundled in with the price, just as it is with a Windows PC. You are paying $30 for an upgrade.
A windows XP/Vista machine plus a Win 7 upgrade is only $30 more than a Mac plus Snow Leopard upgrade. Hardly justifies the several hundred dollar price difference.

clubpenguin1help 1 year ago
Also time machine is just a Volume Snapshot Service using a remote disk. Windows has this service built into the OS and you can choose to use a partition on the same disk, a different drive or an external drive.
System restore peforms exactly the same function as time machine, and system restore or Windows repair will fix almost any issue. The only reason you need to reformat is if you have a corrupted file system, which is extremely rare and usually down to a hardware fault.
arthmus01 1 year ago
@arthmus01
Time Machine will back up to a partition on the same physical disk, an external drive or a network drive just like Windows Backup.
I don't think there is any difference between Time Machine and "Windows Backup and Restore"
Molo9000 1 year ago
does "extremely rare" mean twice in 3 years?
wohoo5150 1 year ago
You mean PC repair companies rip people off *shock*. I know the prices they charge, i used to work for one, and i know they are not needed in 90% of cases. But that doesn't make a difference since they charge the same for a windows install as they do for an OSX install.

BearBoi69 1 year ago
@BearBoi69 apple bloated price tag? try watching video on apple making there hardware and you'd see the engineering and precision that goes into them, why dont microsoft make PCs? because theres no profit in hardware there is in software and charge you £80 to upgrade from vista to 7 should be free as a good will gesture for having to use vista. not to mention £150-250 for an OS for the full version thats a bloated price tag

PowerTorsk 1 year ago

KingofComputing 1 year ago
@KingofComputing
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk so you can save your money for something else instead of a computer. powermac g4's still work great for internet use and you can have one for 300 that will do everything a normal user needs without worrying about viruses, malware and registry errors. here's a question for you- who uses onenote? i own it as part of the office home and student 2007 suite and see no purposefulness for it. nothing that a "new notebook" can't do in office word for mac.
KingofComputing 1 year ago
@KingofComputing Well if you do anything else than surfing and document editing on your computer, you need to upgrade at least once every five years to don't fall off the bandwagon (ie. gaming, watching full HD video while doing other stuff, Photoshop...or any media application at all).
OneNote is good for creative work. When you have an idea or when you're working with other people who use SharePoint, it's great.
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk once again, how many people use things like onenote and sharepoint? isn't that like part of ms expression web or something? i feel that ms makes so many useless applications. like what is windows cardspace? i always get the update to that on my grandmothers vista computer and don't see what it's usefulness is. the hd stuff is nothing a gpu upgrade can't do. right now a 8 year old g4 mdd with dual 1.42ghz processors, and a radeon 9800 mac edition with 2gb of ram is fine for that stuff
KingofComputing 1 year ago
@KingofComputing I didn't know you could upgrade the GPU on a laptop...? At least not a newer one. AFAIK, the GPU, CPU are soldered to the motherboard. As is the soundcard.
Even if you can, how can you survive the horror that is old Macbook screens and mouse pads?
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk well i have an acer aspire laptop and i opened it up, popped out the cpu and upgraded it to a dual core processor in ten minutes, changed the ram, and cleaned the heatsink on the gpu, but i didn't try to take it apart. i'm sure that you can easily replace them on certain motherboards, especially the discrete graphics not necesserialy the integrated ones. and who watches hd movies on a laptop to start with? you can't get the resolution unless you're on a 17" so it's pointless.
KingofComputing 1 year ago
@KingofComputing I've heard that on newer laptops (ie Alienware), you can only replace HDD, disk drive, and RAM, as far as internals go.
And plenty of 15" screens have HD resolution. You would need that for (ie) Youtube, Netflix or maybe Hulu.
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk they have what is considered hd because it is above 720p but they lack true hd 1080p. most 15's are 1366*768 or 1440*900 but far and few are 1920*1080 which is a big difference pixel wise. if 1920*1080 is 2,073,600 pixels and 1440*900 is 1,296,000 pixels that "small difference" is really a loss of over 37.5% less pixels, which greatly affects picture quality. also processors aren't listed as changeable because they're not "user serviceable" but they're replaceable for repair purposes
KingofComputing 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk And your computer freezes, have 4-5 h of battery, is made of aluminium not plastic, have strong WiFi, trackpad with lots of tricks and of course its for years. My next MBP for 5000zł thats 1500$.
pawelo81 1 year ago
@pawelo81 My computer never freezes. And I can get all those things you listed for a cheaper price than a MBP, only with a better processor, better graphics card and DirectX 11 gameplay. And I almost forgot.... 8GB RAM and 500 GB hybrid HDD.
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk Only thing is you don't get the better operating system that the Mac offers and the better software bundle. Macs give you everything you need right out of the box. Not to mention, you get a better design in the process. If you can afford a Mac, I'd seriously suggest buying one. You can't go wrong buying a Mac. Plus, you won't have to worry about those pesky viruses.
blicksflicks 1 year ago
@blicksflicks Are you kidding me? Go google mouse acceleration and see why Mac suck ass for speedy power users. And wtf is up with no 1080p matte screens? How can I do graphic work.
For MUCH less, I can get myself an SSD eqipped, i7 pakcking race car for video editing. And don't give me shit about Final Cut Pro. There is a reason AVID'ss DVD about learning to switch from Final Cut Pro to AVID is sold out at their online store all the time.
PowerTorsk 1 year ago
@PowerTorsk Mouse acceleration. There's applications for mouse acceleration on the Mac. There's a free one called Mouse Acceleration Preference Pane for Mac. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Also, if you want to mess with your mouse more, you can always get SteerMouse for the Mac. I have it. It works great! As for 1080p matte screens, you can hook up any monitor to a Mac. You don't have to use an Apple Cinema monitor. Last, Avid will never come close to Final Cut Pro. Get real!
blicksflicks 1 year ago
@blicksflicks I won't get into the discussion of AVID vs FCP. Either way, it doesn't matter, since I don't need all the super-advanced features (yet). I only need speedy editing tools, which Premiere Pro is more than good enough for.
I need an awesome 1080p matte screen, and sadly, I actually need it (more than I want it, lol). I need to be able to work from home and school, without byuing anther screen for each place.
Lastly, I don't wanna hack my mouse to get it almost good enough.

xillian14 1 year ago 5
@xillian14 Can you run Snow Leopard on your PC too? At least we can run both operating systems. BOOM!
SCHIZOPHRENlC 1 year ago
@SCHIZOPHRENlC

I hate Macs. Apple is the most evil technology company today (google search for apple is evil).
And Apple fanboys - don't get me started on them GRRR

did he really said macs are more looks than power?!?!? omg! that guy knows nothing bout computerssss... hate this ad... i mean i have a pc... a dell xps and i love it but i have to recognize that macs are great!
massie0107 1 year ago
Macs are more about looks than power.
Sure you can get powerful Mac's, you can get powerful PC's too, but for the same price you get more with a PC than a Mac.
So why do Mac's cost more than an equal spec PC? It's because you pay for the aesthetics, and the brand name.

macs are wack

are you an idiot. Macs are about aesthetics but computing power is all in there. For $1500 you could go all the way to the 15 inch mac pros with a much better history of software, and the worlds best operating system. You get 7 hours battery life on macs, and my pc only has 2 hours.
ifreak31 2 years ago

Vadim86738 2 years ago
@Vadim86738 They're trying to prove that PC's are move powerful when it comes to heavy tasks such as gaming and high end applications. He bought an HP HDX, 17" laptop. I'm pretty sure hes using it as a desktop replacement, not a portable machine, meaning why would he even care how long the battery lasts.
Justiin25 2 years ago
If he bought a Macbook he would not only go over his budget, he would also be spending at least $400 more than the $1100 this laptop cost.
As for power, he's looking at least $2000 for a Macbook with the same specs as that HDX 16t, $900 more than he paid, and for what? 3 hours better battery life, which he could get from a replacement extended battery for less than $100.
arthmus01 2 years ago
@arthmus01 he wants portability dude. specs are HEAVILY priced on size. Macs are over $100 cheaper than comparable counterparts. My 13" macbook was $199.99 cheaper than an HP with a SMALLER hard drive. (all the other specs matched). At least with apple you get a good METAL design.
xsonicbladex 2 years ago
It's true that in most cases potability and power are a tradeoff for each other, but in this case clearly power was more important to him than portability.
I'd be interested to know what "comparable counterparts" cost over $100 more than a Mac, because I've never come across one.
for example, the $919 13" HP dm3t compared to the 13" $1,199 MBP, with the same CPU, similar GPU, 1GB more RAM and double the HDD capacity and a decent 5 hour battery life, and comes in nearly $200 cheaper.
arthmus01 2 years ago
@arthmus01 Have you considered RAM speed? (DDR3 is MUCH more expensive) How about frontside bus? GPU? Display and networking?
xsonicbladex 2 years ago
arthmus01 2 years ago
@arthmus01 And the software? BTW saying "slightly low res" is actually a pretty big thing. Some companies (like dell) charge like $199 to upgrade a 15" laptop from 1280 x 800 (a 13.3" resolution) to 1440 x 900 (a decent 15" res).
xsonicbladex 2 years ago
I didn't know Dell did 15" laptops in those resolutions. Dell use the HD standard now on most of their laptops (720p hd, 900p hd+, 1080p fhd) and to go from a 720p to a 900p (1600x900) on say an inspiron cost $75, i don't know where you get your information from.
As for software you get a 15 month antivirus subscription and Microsoft Works. But with $700 saving you can buy whatever software you want. You could get an equivalent to the iLife suite for about $100, still $600 cheaper.
arthmus01 2 years ago
@arthmus01 Have you ever used MS works? it is the single worst office suite i know of. openoffice is better!
