I don't understand this. I saw it in IMAX 3D, and it was TERRIBLE. The 3D is crap, and in fact ruins the rest of the picture (only one part of the screen is supposed to be focused on). The story is utter shit, the sfx were fine, but at the point that the story is absolute crap, the sfx simply can't make up for it. Now, I went into the movie knowing the story was crap, but believed the 3D would immerse me into the movie and therefore it would be worth it. But the 3D fell WAY short. Just Hype.

@SadisticEra I do agree that the story was quite, "generic", but don't you think that that is how it might supposed to be? Stereotypical General, stereotypical story of "person goes on a mission and then falls in love" but it was also quite original with its new world James Cameron gives us all - full of wonder, and amazement. I saw Avatar opening day in 3D - loved it. I saw it the next day without 3D. I must say - The 3D immerses the viewer much more than the non-3D

I did not feel immersed at all because, in my experience, the 3D was nothing special (it was actually BAD). When the plot is terrible, there needs to be something to make up for it. The acting didn't, the 3D didn't, and the sfx, while nice, where certainly by no means enough to make the movie enjoyable or even "OK". Perhaps I had a single bad experience, but at the end of the movie the entire audience gave it a standing ovation. This left me confused and even a little depressed.
