  • Mono?

  • I bet he can say "crotch."

  • When was this made? It sounds really amazing, especially since it's made for the commodore 64.

  • i prefer SAM, he had a funny personality

  • Shall we play a game?

  • The "game" didn't look or sound all that impressive even for the C64.

  • I had a similar software, called "Il chiacchierone" (the chatterbox), on a C64 tape... it seems an hacked version of this cartdrige, but it runs without external chips so I think that it's only a software solution!

  • BEE SHEVUNTEEN BAWMER! LOL.

  • That thing can't sing.

  • That was pretty scary

  • epic

  • "What" exactly is this? I am pretty sure you're using some sort of emulator for this video, right? (VICE perhaps?) Assuming that's correct, is it a "Program"/ROM (.d64, t64, prg, etc)? As a kid, I remember back in the mid 80's, I had the speech cartridge for my real C64. I've been looking for a .crt/ROM for emulators so you can emulate the speech cartridge. By any chance, is THIS 1? If so, what is it/called & where did you get it? Regardless, & whatever it is, Let me know please? Thanks!

  • @gjc82071 Sorry, this looks/sounds like it was recorded from real hardware. AFAIK there's no speech module emulation in VICE or any other emulator.

  • That song will haunt my dreams forever

  • amiga and c64 rulezz the has no soul

  • Hatsune Miku's got nut'n on dis shet.

  • 0:48 ...how i wonder what you argleesh... awesome

  • lol twinkle litle star

  • absolutely amazing!

  • dude.. is there anyway i can download this and use it on my windows vista 64 computer.

  • The woman sounds like Cher! lol

  • Over 100 words huh?........ They should have gone with OVER 9000!!!!!!!!

  • Where is the voice from when he says "I might even be you" at 0:26

  • Brilliant! The intonation on the voice is great.

  • Wow. It sounds absolutely wonderful!

Gotta get me one of these....

  • this sounds a bit like stephen hawking ;-). i had speech synthesis myself on an amiga 500 and it sounded very similar to yours! great! this is a cartridge software? is there a version around for the emulators?

  • As of 2009 he uses this one.

  • Is there a possibility to use that in an emulator?

  • Holy crap over 100 words!

  • this is soooo cool

  • this..sounds like fortran from the weegee fad lol

  • Sounds better than microsoft sam, this one actually changes the tone of voice during speech, unlike the absolete narrator...

  • That's what I thought!

  • @Helldiver450 I think what this system does is transform complete recordings of real voices, such as a spoken sentence, into a highly compressed format using formants and pitch, possibly with a noise channel. Then, the synthesizer reproduces the waveforms. The synthesizer isn't generating the changing tones of the voice, the inflections, or the accents. Compare with watch?v=Jx2FDZIvg_0, where these are computer generated. Notice the difference?

  • Holy moley! The singing part was crazy! Commodore had the first vocaloid. Where the heck has this been hiding all these decades?!

  • Over 100 words :)

  • Did that use a TMS5220C to generate the voices? It sounds exactly like all the mid-80's Atari talking arcade games (paperboy, gauntlet, APB, 720, etc)

  • Close! It can be argued it's of similar pedigree. It's a custom chip developed outside of Commodore R&D, but for CBM, by the TI Speak and Spell team.

  • nope man! the old sid

maybe it is the low sample rate that makes it sound like old games, wich I think they used prerecorded effects

  • Say goodbye to human existence...

  • hahahahhahahahhaahah

  • Please see to it that the demo is preserved and made available

  • I AM MICRODAFT SAM!

  • ;-) well done
