Just saw Mike Doughty at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI 2/21/12. Such an honest, guy, a great live performer, he read excerpts from his book to us in between songs; had seen him the year before at the same place with "Scrap" Livingston for "The Question Jar Show", and it was frank, open, and wickedly clever and funny. Get the new CD "Yes and Also Yes", it is outstanding!!
@hopitopia I remember discovering Soul Coughing and later checking them out thinking "gee, it'd be nice to actually see this band." and yeah, their site said something like "well, we're sad they broke up but we'll keep up the site for fans" etc.
This reminds me of living a block from Wilshire and La Cienega, going to the Velvet Room in a velvet jacket, PJ bottoms, a wife beater and a '20s corduroy cap. The line had a line to the VIP line, which had more people, bouncers, Hefner & his girls in the house. I looked to my left and Craig Kilborn in his he day with an f'ing hot model wasn't getting in.
I beat Kilborn in & wound up on the 2nd floor that was like the first with cocktails, bunny tails, long winded tales of screenwriter blues.

I love Mike's story, in "the book of drugs," about how this song came to be.

I didn't realize how brilliant this song was until I listened to it while reading the lyrics.

One of my favorite bands of all time; the man has a way with lyrics and the band perfectly backs it. I miss them.
