  • Oh and please stop comparing Karnivool to Tool.. they are NOTHING alike!!!

  • Sorry but Karnivool are so much better than tool. And if you seem them live you will see they sound exactly the same as on the CD. They are perfectionists. What a band to come out of Australia. Its about time we had something good of this Genre.

Now check out Birds Of Tokyo. Same singer Ian Kenny in both bands. It's a must.

As you will read, the unforgettable voice of Ian Kenny !!!

  • so good music, and so few people, who heard it... :(

  • Who gives a toss about Tool, this is an awesome band!!!!!!!!

  • Check us out, new track up! Influences from Tool, Alter Bridge, Karnivool, Mastodon, Dead letter Circus, HIM etc...

  • TOOL is overrated.

  • I'm sorry, Steve Judd and Danny Carey are two total different styles. It's like comparing BB King and Slash on guitars. People are different, and thus bands are too. When you open your imagination, the lyrics that come can be so deep and metaphorical, or literally and transparent. It's easy: Like or Dislike them. I love the diversity of the songs, lyrics, the timing and just the melding of it all.

  • I F-in love Karnivool! Being a massive Tool fan, when I first heard them on triple J I knew I had to get all their albums & went out the next day and got them all.

They're Very similar to Tool but not the same which is the best part as who wants another copycat band? he's got such an amazing voice.

  • *Puts on repeat*

    *Puts on repeat*

    *Puts on repeat*

    etc :D

  • <<<==== If you absolutely love progressive music and have a few minutes, check out my music channel

  • asd

  • I was late to the table on these guys, but I am so glad I found them. Digging Birds of Tokyo as well.

  • tool has the hability of carving into my mind and being from all above everything.... karnivool has that same effect, but i feel them carving through my veins, right into my heart... both are the best diet to a soul :3

  • well i was sound awake untill i started this video...gnite

  • I read all the comments on how karnivool sounds like tool, and at one point i want to throw my monitor in to a wall, but then i listen to Karnivool's music and i realize it doesn't fucking matter, what so ever, who is better, because no one is better. I feel bad though, that SO MANY Tool fans are elitist, and almost always talk about how they are better than another band. Music, to me, is a last safe haven from competition.I guess I'll just put in my headphones and tune out the world,

  • I posted a video of this song played twice over each other like a delay... i did it by accident one day and it sounded soooo coool!!!!! go check it out if ya love this song trust me it sounds awesome! Thumbs up if you like it :D ... /watch?v=gGDXaqfr-oQ

  • @thejoey0610 haha.. were you really wasted? ;)

  • @Kymatose haha no but my brother who found it out with me was trippin ;) haha.

  • Im a new fan!! YAY!! :D

  • @Mya101795

I remember when I was one of these once. Like bliss...

  • always make perth proud.all great songs with heart and meaning not to mention sounds fukn dope!

  • Over a year later, almost 40,000 views and over 120 comments!! I hope everyone purchased the album and embraced its incredible glory...

  • @kasheeshed420 I did. I plan on buying both MP3 and Cd of everything. I do that for bands that deserve it most. They are not making millions I am sure but they sure do deserve it. What an awesome band they are :) Cheers

  • Karnivool obviously take influence from Tool. but they are not completely in the same Genre of music. I love them both(although Tool has been my favorite for years). Haven't seen Karnivool live sadly, Tool is breathtaking live. but both of these magnificent bands are wonderful. amazing drummers, vocalists, bassists, and guitarists. Just all around amazing bands. I truly cannot see a place(nor reason) to compare them. Lets all just listen and love them!!!!

  • superlative.

  • Karnivool ROCKS!!!!!

  • Ok...Firstly I'd like to say that I literally just started listening to this band today. I'd heard of them but didn't really know what they sounded like. I heard "Set Fire to the Hive" and loved it. But Tool has been my favourite band for forever. No doubt this man can sing, but MJK just has honey that drips from his vocal chords like no one does. It's Maynard's soulfulness that sets him apart. This guy is sharper, like more throaty where MJK is more chesty. Just sweeter. But I do dig this band.

  • im waiting for the savior, to heal us and erase us too!

  • this is a great band. anyone who appreciates Tool..should recognize the influence and still be able to appreciate that Karnivool is also a great band in their own right. Yes...the influence is obvious. But this band has heart and great songs. The musicianship, production, songwriting, and performance is top notch. Not too many bands can offer that these days. I applaud this band and am a new believer.

  • every karnivool video has peopel comparing them and tool

  • WOW.....just Wow

  • "Sound Awake" is WAY better thqan "10,000 Days", thats just a given. As for Ian's lyrics, well, only a small movement of people actually fully understand them in all honesty. One day all will be deciphered, I'm sure of it.

  • @splat78423 How can you even compare Tool to Karnivool? Tool blows them out of the water in every way. You might say Ian can reach higher notes then Maynard, but who cares? Maynard doesn't need to reach high notes. And these lyrics will never compare to Tool's.

  • @SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk Possibly the fact that karnivool don't need four minute breaks in their songs with pointless little pieces of droning sound to try and satisfy some sort of pathetic we're so much cooler than everyone else ego....

  • @SpRoAtMEALWiThMiLk Hell no.Tool and Karnivool are both amazing. Every point you put forward is pure opinion, nothing more.

  • I think everyone needs to chill out about Tool... don't get me wrong they are fucking amazing but they aren't gods!... in my opinion sound awake beats 10,000 days

  • Karni are easily best band ever in my eyes, i listen to this album 3 times a day from start to finish, its texture still manages to astound me still after 2 months of doing so.

wow. simply wow. All the musicians are just perfect.

    Illumine is just beautiful.

  • Its Actually Not " So Break Down" Its "Celebrating"

  • I like the album cover

  • Ian has a better voice, his lyrics aren't as good because he didn't have misfortune of being buttraped by his dad. cos australians aren't fucked like americans are.

  • BEST LIVE BAND. i lvoe this song

  • Great Song!

  • Deff one of my favourite song of theres...always takes me places....

  • I like how you added the lyrics in there. Nice job.

  • Great song 8D

  • This song and L1fel1ke both kick ass.

This song is EPIC all around.

But then again the whole album is EPIC!

Great band, can't wait till I get this album.

  • This Whole Album is just epic!!!

  • i'm soooo excited that they're on tour in the US.... * ear to ear grin *

  • this isnt on itunes where can i buy it??? :(

  • should be on itunes, but they just released the album here in the states... check amazon :P

  • @lilaznkami

its on iTunes but when i checked last week u can only find it on out of country iTunes

  • try looking again, they just released the album to the US this week...

  • thanks For lyrics.

  • One of my new favourite bands. Great album over all

  • One of the best Albums I have bought , if not the best

  • I saw them as support with skindred, and tbh, they blew skindred out the water, much as skindred did when they supported bullet.

  • It still boggles my mind that a band/song this friggen good only has 18k views.

  • Thanks a lot for the lyrics ! Great album as usual !

  • Karnivool is kind of like tool or A perfect circle

but very unique in their own way

  • Yes, like them in that it's a similar genre. That's it.

  • @toolvool it reminds me more of a perfect circle because it's more like a balad..Just more focus on the chanting in general :)

  • Comment removed

  • @toolvool

"Karnivool is kind of like tool" and Birds of Tokyo are like A perfect Circle ;)

  • Is it just me or does this song have an ethereal quality to it?

  • wow i love it, i wish these guys all the luck with this album its sounds great :)

  • they could be influenced by much worse bands..

  • karniTOOL

  • hahaha

  • Tool and Karnivool are of similar genre, but very different style...

  • holy shit this band kicks ass

  • i always listen to this song while running

  • focussing on vool...this song is an amazing aspect on why sound awake is such an epic album...truly shows their capabilities as composers and musicians....pumps me up so well!! :P

  • If Lan can sing like that live then i'll give it to you......also I am abit byass because Tool is my favorite band... long live Bill Hicks

  • thats actually Ian's strong point. he sounds identical to the CD when he sings live. Maynard does a great job too. Either way it doesnt matter, both bands are amazing and when it comes down to it..tool is more powerful and in fact is a big influence on karnivool...

  • This band has a good sound but i wouldn't dream of putting them in the same category as TOOL not even in the same ball park.. Mainly to do with the fact that Danny Carey is unrivaled in his skill and exploration of sacred geometry, putting that into music is real artwork ...only my personal opinion.

  • I do agree with you as far as Danny Carey..he is just incredible. But I would say that Ian is a better singer than Maynard. He can hit better notes and such..

  • I happen to agree, with you on that, Ian has a much much greater vocal range and is more crisp with his notes than Maynard, but Maynard is so far ahead of him in the lyrics department it's not even fair to compare the two.

  • couldnt have said it any better my friend..

  • Although, now having said that, I'm not sure that Ian even writes the lyrics for Karnivool's songs...? I think the guitar player(Andrew Goddard) is the driving force behind their composition. In which case, Ian is just a singer while Maynard is both singer and songwriter, so a better comparison of musicians would be between Andrew and Maynard....

  • Jono on bass has a large hand in composition.

  • You know, just from listening to the new songs, I figured the bass player had hand in the composition. Their songs put the bass right up front and I love it, it's not hidden or down-played. Their drummer seems to be pretty damn good too. Great group of musicians, hope they have many years of prosperity.

  • wells said

  • @Vallnerik They have totally different voices and they're totally different bands. Stop fucking comparing them. Christtt

  • @kasheeshed420 if you honestly think that.. then maybe you should listen to a perfect circle, or maynard's earlier days, eg aenima tours... because although ian is a good singer... the emotion he brings to music isnt even comparable to maynard james keenan!

  • @karnypie "Danny Carey is unrivaled in his skill and exploration of sacred geometry" HAHAHA Since he is a ancient Greek mathematician, He is UNRIVALED IN DRUMMING BAAHAHA

  • @karnypie

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Carey's one of the best, but he's not by any means "unrivaled". In terms of timing and technical skill, Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree could school Danny, even though Danny has the edge in terms of power. And however over done the Tool/PT or Carey/Harrison debate is, I'm really tired of literally every comment on Karnivool's vids comparing them to Tool as well. They are influence by Tool to an extent, but both they and Tool have their own unique sounds.

  • @karnypie His pursuit of sacred geometry is not is not singular to him. Earth Magic/jewish mysticism is sought after and applied by many musicians under labels.

  • fuck!!

    very Impressive!!

  • After 4 months I come back to youtube and found this video has received 11,500 views!!! Thanks so much everyone for watching, hope you bought the album!! its amazing!

  • they were support band when i saw skindred on saturday

  • Wouldn't mind seeing these guys do a world tour with Dredg, Tool, and Porcupine tree. Ha i can dream cant I??

  • saw them support skindred in exeter amzing band 5/5

  • Excellent song, excellent band :)

They fucking owned on the 10th with Skindred. The lead signer is pure brilliance.

And nice work with the lyrics on the video :D

  • saw them support skindred in glasgow

they were pretty good, vocalist is amazing, he can totally sing..

    skindred obviously were awesome

hadn't heard of karnivool before i saw them, glad i saw them live, worth the listen

  • karnivool songs are so intellegently written

  • Ayy don't be goin downloading the album, you gotta freaking buy it!! Support the band you cheap-Os!!! Addicting song btw

  • Great song, but in my opinion the lyrics and the vocals aren't as good, as the sound.

    Dan

  • I think the vocals (in this song especially) are top shelf.

I will agree on the lyrics however. This song has great lyrics, but I found the lyrics on this album as a whole to disappoint me a little.

Here comes the vulgarity and the thumbs down....

  • Themata is really punchy... Sound Awake is real... inspiring, sort of. It lures you in, where themata punched you in the face.

if i was to guess at anything, their next album will be VERY techy with the instruments, very LOUD and very in your face.

  • I agrre with you with their albums. In terms of Tool (Coz they are very much like Tool. Which is awesome!): Themata is like Undertow/Ænima, more powerful and angsty, whereas this album is more like Lateralus, more calmly progressive but still with major impact.

  • wow uh wow.. this is beautiful, what a talented bunch of dudes

  • Most amazing song ever.

  • Thanks a lot everyone for all the views and the ratings. This is one of the greatest bands out there today, and I really hope their recognition continues!

  • best fucking songgggg !

  • Amazing album. Half of the tracks from Sound Awake are masterpieces and the others aren't bad either. Definitely album of 09 so far.

  • No1 song

  • awesome awesome awesome

  • it's really similar to The tempest by pendulum the beginning of the song!!!!!!

  • kinda know what you mean:P

LOVE this band, saw them in todays kerrang! :$ def getting this album!

  • I'm glad everyone enjoys this album, finaly Karnivool will get the recognition they deserve.

  • Help! I can't stop listening to this record! The awesomeness is just too great!

  • The hole album is so awsome, masterpiece!!

  • Every time i hear this song... Oh god... This whole body experience...

  • I love the album too. It's amazing. Although I have to admit that Themata is my favorite of your albums so far. I just love the style of it. Despite that, this song definitely surpassed Roquefort as my favorite song.

  • love this song!! so many sweet riffs

  • I bought this album on sunday. It is amazing. This and Deadman are my two favourites at the moment. A very talented band, and they are from Australia aswell! Go us!!!

  • OMG! This whole fucking album, man.

    You just can't understand......

  • Yeah karinvool is pretty fucking awesome aee

Major influence for my band Anti Mxte

  • Can we get a link to your band? Might be good :)

  • What an unbelievably talented band. Outstanding.

  • This song is just so amaziing, words cant even explain it.

    :D

  • i dig this song and deadman! goliath is sick too!

  • sofias resturant

  • butterfly effect is playing at south morang hotel this month.

  • makes you realise music is still kicking

  • desde venezuela muy buena banda exelente trabajo yeaaah =]

  • someone posted a link to this band off of another site....i'm glad they did

  • how do you all speak, with a lying tongue* ;)

  • Thank you very much!!! its changed! =P

  • This is my number 2, my fav is All I Know, amazing fooking song. Props Karnivool, you've evolved!

  • When I heard this song Karnivool went from being an awesome band to my favorite band of all time. IV'E BEEN WAITING! ...... FOR THIS ALBUM! .... IT'S A SICK ONE! .... IM SICK OF WAITING .... lol ... just thought Id throw in my own lyrics

  • amen my friend

    amen

  • Agreed. I live in USA myself, and I didnt come across Karnivool until last fall. Wow am I glad I did! Spread the word everyone, these guys need recognition for releasing such a great album for us.

  • I was hoping karnivool would go more into the ambient side of their previous music. glad they did. monster of a song

  • Listened to this whole album at work today...which was posted on their myspace page... couldn't help but think this the "lateralus" album from Karnivool...but I think thats a good think. Honestly the best piece of music Ive heard since 2001. I'm pretty sure one o the lyrics is wrong though...i think kenny says how do we all sleep? w/ a dying sun, not dyed oh well....thanks for posting

  • Thank you! That was the only part of the song where I couldnt understand kenny 100%. Glad to get it right! =P Caption changed.

  • I'm not 100% either, but it just makes more sense to me...and the first time I heard it that's how it sounded. After further listens it does sound like dyed is a possibility, but I like dying better. lol...btw, there is a torrent on demonoid for the entire album, I got it last night. Umbra is fantastic as well as All I know, deadman and change part II....fantastic album, totally buying it when its released here in the US

  • ya i already preordered 5 copies for me and family members haha. im not too worried about torrents i just listen to it on myspace. thanks anyways tho bro! =D

  • No worries...just thought maybe you guys would like to crank it in the car, that's the only way to go for me...windows down, bose up

PS. the sound quality was ripped from their myspace page, so I cannot wait for the real cd

  • and also - how do you all speak? with a lying tongue - i think :)

  • do you know if its being released in the UK in the 5th as well or will we have to wait another year like Themata?

    -Cheers

  • I sent a message to karnivool on myspace and got a reply back from hoss. he said that the releases outside of Australia will be a lil later just like Themata =( oh well just preorder it and they will send it to ya.

  • nice work with the captions.... that song fucking rocks!

  • Great song. The beginning really reminds me of The Mars Volta's The Widow.

  • defs buyin the album

  • haha well we made it 4 comments before referring to tool

love this song..the second half especially

  • I really love how their sound has matured in this album. I mean Themata is a great album, but with the arrangements in what Ive heard from Sound Awake, the band seems to play as more single entity rather than seperate musicians playing together. Love it. cant wait.

Between this and Isis's Wavering Radiant, 09 is a great year for music.

  • I have to completely agree with you F1ncH01. They remind me of how TooL matured after Undertow and Aenima. Karnivool's new music is very atmospheric, which is something new and very much needed in the music world.

  • yup. and as soon as Tool release a new album ill be smiling for weeks. =p

  • Np I want more people to listen and buy their album. Its just amazing music!

  • thanks for putting this up

gives me a taste before i buy the albumn

my internet was to slow for myspace song lol
