  • Great job Emily. In teaching karate myself, it was always such an amazing thing to see kids with disabilities and problems start to improve. Congratulations Emily, congratulations Emily's parents, and congratulations Emily's instructor. Keep up the good work and I hope that you are able to change the lives of other children the same way that you are doing for Emily.

  • good but some seriously worrying pressups.

  • i am going to my first karate class monday so i am seing what its like i am going to my best friends karate place that she goes to she started 3 weeks ago

  • yet one more piece of evidence on how effective a part of a child upbringing can be enhanced through karate training

  • Wow thats great you will be amazed at what martial arts can do. I train in so many different martial arts so I can deal with certain things were I live not just self defense but things like staying away from drugs. Good luck Emily!

  • Wow, that was ncie video. Emily gots some Skillz! I bet when she's atleast 13, she'll be able to take down a 30 year old. :] Nice vid 5/5

  • Lol. I remember when karate used to be THIS easy!

  • Hello ilvsocksmonkeys, Go to wdef dot com and type in Karate. You can find the story "Karate Kids Qualify for Karate Nationals" It is about not only the first person in history but the second person in history with autism to qualify for the Karate Nationals in the Non-handicap division. Your daughter class lacks lots of discipline by the way. Thanks

  • Congratulations Emily! When are folks going to realize that children tend to rise to the occasion if given the opportunity?

  • hope that we can make as much progress in due course. best wishes

  • Looks like Karate was the right thing for your daughter. It's hard for parents with kids who have autism to find what's right for their child and what they can handle. They're able to learn just have to do it in different ways. Just like everyone else.

  • These instructors are just awesome working with her. They have done wonders with 2 other kids and even have a small class of adults. Its amazing what those guys can do. They enjoy it just as much.

  • Way to go Emily. I have a 7 year old with autism and understand your miracle so well. I think it's great that u videotaped the class to show the school. You guys are awesome parents. Keep up the great work!

  • I had begun to doubt myself..you know wondering if I was crazy, especially when she was making those tiny progress steps. Just the smallest changes make a huge impact for her. I know you know. :)

  • Magnificent! This class has obviously captured Emily's attention and imagination. Next she'll be TEACHING the class!

  • That would make my day :) It is a wonder what peaks her interest. We actually started Karate for her, not Ryan. She wanted to first. He started and we could not get her on the floor. A month later we got her in the uniform and on the floor. On some days we have to literally coax her off the floor and say all done because she wants to keep on playing (30 min class). She still gets anxious on those full class days.

  • I can sympathize with her on the full class thing. It looks like you have definitely found what works for both of them. You are a great Mom!

  • Whatever is happening, it's working. Looks like Emily is having fun and has interest too. Great exercise and circulation for her. Keep us posted:)

  • Maybe its the routine, the patterns, the energy, the patient instructor? But Ryan says its big brother when he comes with her class *wink* haha

  • Great video. Emily you are doing great in the Karate Class!!!!

  • Thanks :) I have an awesome little superstar to tape Mol.
