@classicallady Exxon pays little US inc tax, other nations have lower corp income tax rates. So, Exxon works overseas, pays low rates in other nations, then leaves the money overseas, to re invest there. No tax liability. So, your implication is that Bush is helped them, but it still was NOT economic to be in the US. I bet you want more taxes and regulations. Ok, but dont expect them to want to stay. The deep water oil rigs in the gulf are going away for good, along with jobs, tax revenue.

@bohemianwriter1 I cant write a book, so, I will just mention that when Bush cut taxes on the "rich", he also cut on the bottom tier rate as well. Result was increased Dollars to the govt in revenue, and the percent of total tax burden received from the rich, as a % of total revenue increased as well. It is, of course, impossible to cut income taxes on the poor, lower middle classes, as they pay none. 47% of tax returns pay zero inc tax.

@luvcheney1 Taxes on the rich should be 90%+, like they were pre-Reagan. They only get "rich" due to having benefited from the commons, and those who labor for low wages and don't get a fair share for a day's work. In the '50s when there WAS a middle class, this was possible because CEO pay as a ratio to worker pay was not so out of touch with what is fair and just. The trickle-down nonsense is morally wrong, and has now been proven wrong. Government cannot be effective with under-taxation.

@ilanaaq "Fair" has nothing to do with anything in the real world. Exxon pays little to nothing in taxes to the US govt. Because the avg of Fed and state corp taxes is about 39%, while Europe ( OECD 30 nations) is about 24%. So, they choose to derive their profits outside the US. The rich have the ability to change their incomes, and if the tax is 90%, they will. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have most of their wealth in untaken capital gains, UNTAXED even yet!

@ilanaaq So, if the incomes of the rich are taxed at 90%, the Treasury will not earn revenue on that income. They will incorporate, moves businesses offshore, and avoid taxation, like many huge US corps do. If you would like more dollars collected, then cut rates. Right now, the rich and business are trying to get income into this year, to pay lower rates. After Bush cuts expire, you watch the tax collections fall, just as they rose when they were implemented. Same when John Kennedy and Reagan

Exxon chooses to operate independent parts of itself that pay taxes in nations that have 24% taxes, not 39% like here. LEGAL. Especially since that was done in a stochastic context of economic growth that was already coming, making the decision look valid. You cannot run a household if you cannot generate enough income to cover your expenses.
