I was in the audience and as I recall, it was a Saturday afternoon and the song was scheduled for release the following Monday. Here was this guy beating on a bell and I was thinking, WTF? I began texting some friends back in Philadelphia and got replies like, "oh yeah, that's Coldplay". In spite of what the viewers' impressions are of the audience, it was a great performance.

I remember seeing this live for the first time streaming from MTV's website! I remember James Franco and Seth Rogen lighting a joint earlier in the show, and then seeing this masterpiece. Nobody knew just how big of a hit this was going to be. An absolutely magical and timeless classic.

This wasn't the best performance vocally. It actually sucked to be honest. I know this cat could of done better, maybe his voice was giving him issues prior to this. He has sounded really good live in other occasions.

@FelixMarshall1 The crowd didn't having dancing software uploaded to their memory banks. They had mild happiness and excitement uploaded, though, hence the random cheers and applause. It was all moderated by their emotion suppressor hardware, however. It's hard work programming the drones of society you know. We can't have this many people expressing an exuberant amount of joy on national television. It's not part of "the plan" if you catch my drift (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Chris Martin performing his masterpiece in front of THE music audience for the first time live. It doesn't get any better. I think even he knew it was likely the climax of his musical career. He's almost in tears at the end when he's thanking them.

i was there. chris seemed drunk but it was a really good performance. what the video doesn't show is that chris knocked over his keyboard on purpose - on his way to the mic about 3.15 in. probably just a cheap midi-thing but still cool to do at the stupid movie awards. gotta love coldplay.
