I've recently started my own journey through the bible, beginning (as you said) at the ACTUAL beginning. My favorite part in all of Genesis 1 though is how it says God made the stars on the 4th day. With an amateur telescope, you can see stars that are 100 million light years away, meaning the light took 100 million years to reach earth. With the simple existence of stars, I don't understand how anyone can believe the earth is only a few thousand years old.
You know... your are so completely right. It makes WAY more sense that we should believe in science.... Monkey giz... thats where it allll started people. It makes no sense to believe in God. But put all your faith into the "theory" we came from money giz. I don't think so.
When you translate something from a different language your are translating idea for idea not word for word. So ofcourse you are going to get a bunch of wacky crap in the bible if you don't know what was actually meant. A comma in a sense can cause the sentence to have an entirely different meaning. So you should bully how people interpret the bible, not the bible itself.

when reading an ancient text it is important to know that things change in the course of all of humanity. it is far less important knowing the proper modern english language than being open to realizing the meaning behind the words for a vastly different time where advanced concepts would have no language to play out in, but rather symbolism, imagery, and metaphors. We're just about now reaching the point where we can fully understand everything in specific words and Genesis was long before now

Its no compromise to say there is symbolic imagery is used in the Bible. I'm not sure if Christian apologist is an insult or what it exactly means, but when I read literature by ancient people who claim truth, I look to see the parallels with truth. And in english when we are referring to a day we are specifically talking about a 24 hour day - the 24 hour period it takes for the Earth complete a full rotation on its axis, which was originally judged with a Sun dial. If the Bible wasn't talking about one of these 24 hour solar days, then "day" is a mistranslation, and they should use something more accurate. If there's nothing accurate we have to use the original Hebrew word or else it's just wrong.
