  • Thats how I always feel always alone

  • Good god that was tragic.

  • I just want to give Jon a hug in this. D:

  • Garfield has been my favorite cartoon since I was a kid, and after watching this, I just died a little. It was so depressing. It broke my heart seeing Jon like that.

  • Nice touch with the Yamaoka song. Although, I would think that "Acceptance" from the Shattered Memories soundtrack would have been a much better match for the strange, wasted, lonely life of one Jon Arbuckle.

  • The Garfield movies should've been directed by David Lynch

  • god this is depressing

  • Jon is *forever alone*...

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Wow, this is even funnier than Schindler's List!

  • 23 people don't get it.

  • I'd rather see a film adaptation of this than those shitty animated Garfield movies...

  • sir, the akira masterpiece just earned u a fav

  • what is the song played on this video

  • @mike7939 "Room of Angel" by Akira Yamaoka

  • Jesus Christ how horrifying

  • This is sooooooooo much better than garfield.

  • Both hilarious and depressing.

  • this is fucking depressing

  • This has to b the worlds sadest and most depressing song ever

  • Goddamn this is depressing.

  • garfield is at 7:00

  • I just realized this comic is about me...

  • @Charmolution

    Ditto....

  • So without Garfield the strip becomes Max Cannon's Red Meat?!?!

  • Jon should be the poster-boy of the "Forever Alone" meme.

For all of these years that he's been alone...he at least deserves to be rewarded for it.

  • @TwinGuinep

Well, he did get with Liz eventually...

  • @atomofish

After like 29-something years...but I guess it still counts.

  • 3:54

Holy shit, was that really in the comic?

  • @zperra Yes it is. It's still depressing even with Garfield in it, but it's much more depressing without him.

  • We were just paying attention to Garfield all along. Poor Jon was slowly going insane right before our eyes. It's almost tragic...

  • 7:00

  • "I dread tomorrow."

We all do, Jon. We all do.

Fear that overnight what we've worked for will amount to nothing

Fear of what is to come.

    Fear of the unknown.

    I too dread tomorrow.

  • When the tears are gone, all we can do is laugh.

  • Sorry, I didn't find this funny at all. Too depressing.

  • Jon should watch Fight Club. That'll cheer him up.

  • I wonder what kind of monsters are in Jon's Silent Hill?

  • Jon's slow descent into MADNESS! D:

  • Outstanding!

Greater than the sum of its parts.

Thank you for sharing this composite work, HubertsCurse.

Kudos to Jim Davis, Dan Walsh, and Akira Yamaoka for the source material

  • Do you think the artist just drew Jon Arbuckle first, then added Garfield for comedy? So it was like a replication of his life?

    Really puts it into perspective

  • that is kind of sad

  • jon looks insane

  • God, this is hilarious. If the actual comic were like this (or perhaps with Garfield, but minus the thought bubbles) it would be a masterpiece.

  • @SquishyK

They have a Garfield minus Garfield book out. Jim Davis even made some strips for it.

  • @SquishyK But it wouldn't be a masterpiece because it needs the original for comparison to be so poignant. Alone it would just be a story of a man going insane from loneliness - not at all funny or endearing. Now it's a post-modern reinterpretation of a cultural icon, and manages to get good laughs to boot.

  • 2:07-2:18 wow :'s

  • Wheres odi

  • @Uberdoctorwhofan1 erased, Garfield minus Garfield not only erases Garfield, but all of the non-Jon Arbuckle main characters (including Odie)

  • Wow and I thought he was miserable with Garfield around. That fat cat actually made his life more interesting.

  • The sad history of a man slowly losing the battle against loneliness :|

  • It started with Garfield's thought bubbles being erased. While the result was basically what we have here, it being a much more depressing and realistic strip, Garfield still drank coffee and did things a normal cat obviously doesn't do which limits some of the potential.

Garfield Minus Garfield is brilliant, and Jim Davis has to be the coolest artist ever. Sure, Garfield has never been very funny (Unless you count the cartoon, which was awesome) but if it was anyone else, Walsh would get sued.

  • why do like this do want garfield to be removed , wow without garfield they should take all the garfield shows cancel i t and replace it with jon airbuckle , u guys really are stupid it just comic strip

  • There are funny moments, but some parts are pretty sad and downright creepy even. Proof that he can't do without his pets. BTW, nice use of Room of Angel.

  • ya know, I always knew that Jon was socially inept & all, but this really points out that he is one pathetic LOSER! Poor guy!

  • Wow, this is...really deep...Faved.

  • I just want to let you know that this song is wonderful and the Silent Hill soundtracks are completely wonderful.

  • I think Garfield minus Garfield just underlines the whole point of Garfield. Jon is basically alone with his thoughts and in general, I mean he talks to his cat and dog. Not unlike many of us I believe. So erasing those two characters just forces one to see what's really going on. And I really don't mean it in a bad way, thumbs up! This must be one of the most brilliant cartoons ever - with or without Garfield and the others. That's life at it's worst and that's life at it's most beautiful times

  • 5:10 is scary, and 4:04-4:07.

  • "How come you can't taste your tongue?" LOL. You gotta love the guy for being so dorky.

3:28 is kinda creepy... same with 3:37... and 4:39... hell, there's a lot of creepy moments in this vid.

I agree with the other comments, it's sad but funny at the same time. Poor Jon.

  • Tragedy is when you cut your finger, comedy is when you slowly watch a man drive himself insane from loneliness and depression.

  • Well, that managed to be simultaneously funny, scary, and depressing as hell. I approve.

Also, that music was from a Silent Hill game, wasn't it?

  • @FinalBrick

    you are correct sir.

the game is silent hill 4 and the song is called room of angel I believe.

  • @halfbeast

Ah, that's right... It's been a while since I played that game. Thanks for the info.

  • This is just depressing. :[

  • 4:37-4:47 Scared me.

  • I say we change the name of the strip to batshit Jon.

  • this video made me almost cry...wow it is so depressing, I think jon has serious depression

  • Wow.. I'm not the only one who thought of silent hill when reading these.

    Anyway, these are depressingly hilarious!

  • @jaderoseofchaos

The music IS from Silent Hill 4, after all.

  • Damn, without Garfield, the strip gets depressing. And a HELL of a lot funnier.

  • @smnoy23 Do you want to say that Garfield is unfunny??? That Jon is funnier?

  • @smnoy23 You are more a dog person?

  • @ri4get I am more of a cat person. Calm down.

  • 'What a day...my pants fell down. Right in public, too! I don't think anyone noticed' That is just a brilliant how it's supposed to be funny (and it is), but actually it's one of the most depressing things , to even happen on real life. You are invisible to others..

  • schizophrenic XD

  • Well... that left me speechless and crying I never knew he was that depressed it's impressive you remove the corner stone of Jon's sanity and you see what he really is a sad insane and depressed man.

  • Kinda creepy...

  • Comment removed

  • Jon's dissent into madness was a unfortunately short fall.

  • *sniff* :(

  • Sad sad arbuckle garfeild is probably what keeps his misery away until garfeild is gone. :(((

  • If anything happens to Garfield, Jon would kill himself.

  • There's a bit of Jon Arbuckle in all of us.

  • okay guys but GARFIELD Is as much a part of Jim Davis as Jon arbuckle you know, those people who take away garfield and say jon arbuckle alone is the REAL part of garfield comic strip you WACK GLASS HALF EMPTY NIGGAs...

let me put it this way. Jim davis has both a jon arbuckle side AND a garfield side. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH

  • @djkramnik I do not understand english.......... j/k. Of course, he wrote both parts, It is interesting to think about though because Garfield might also be something like the positive things he tells himself but doesn't believe or whatever. I'm not really going to get into it because really I don't care, Garfield without Garfield was just a great idea to do, but ... it is interesting to look at and think about for some people/in a way in general. So... really... why be so dismissive/rude?

  • @blankppr what I was objecting to was people who assume that the dark side/jon arbuckle must be more truly representative of jim davis than garfield + jon taken together. but mostly I was just joking around/wanted an excuse to use the phrase "wack glass half empty niggas. im actually a handsome brilliant young diamond in the rough a la Aladdin in the 1993 Disney movie of that name. have a good day.

  • @djkramnik I am totally sure.... =P

  • @motherfuckingsnakes1 we don't know what is actually "truly". I slightly agree with you

  • @motherfuckingsnakes1 I don't think that's true..Sure, sad things can be funny, but that doesn't mean it's not funny unless it's sad. There are some things that are just funny because they're silly. A dancing banana for example, or Jack Sparrow's mannerisms. Maybe that's just your sense of humor though.

  • This is just...wow...the mood whiplashed.

  • Jesus christ this is sad.

  • Poof

  • This raises the question of whether Garlfield is just a imaginary friend he made up. Wouldn't that make it even more crazy? Wouldn't it make sense?

  • I have to compliment not only the chilling portrait of Jon's character in this series, but also the wonderful choice for the soundtrack! Lullaby is easily one of the most effective and emotional songs in the Silent Hill series and sets the tone perfectly

  • I'm just saying what everybody's thinking... at 1:17 That red thing on the table looks like an overcooked penis.

  • What?

  • LOLOLOL

  • I love the implied suicide.

  • how do u even erase garfield

  • why am i watching this?

  • Oh god...

I almost started crying. To see our Jon like that...ouch.

But the picture of Garfield at the very end scared the crap outta me. As well as the very last panel.

  • Its clearly a descent into psychosis, witness the birth of a serial killer.

  • @feybyte

Depression and psychosis alone doesn't make one more prone to murder.

You better not further befoul where it's not necessary.

  • just a guess is Jon depressed?

  • Wow. This is so bleak, yet some of these are side-splittingly hilarious at the same time.

  • without garfield in the comic strips, jon is just a depressing sadsack that wouldn't sell at all lol

  • Im so lonely.

  • So depressing, the music doesn't cheer up either

  • AHHAHAHA when he's eating the soup then he gets scared and starts crying, this is no doubt depressing, but in context i'd say it's very funny in a unique way

  • Wow. I never knew how existenstial John was...I guess Garfield was just getting in the way.

  • It's like I'm watching a serial killer in his cabin, all by himself...

  • Wow I dont know whether to laugh or sob...

  • This is extremly depressing!!!!! I think i going to die of depresstion. :-(

  • A lonely depressed man's thoughts set to Silent Hill music and, somehow, it's funny.

  • My soul died a little.

  • silent hill + garfield - garfield ~ macabre yet beautiful. wow.

  • i feel like commiting suicide, thx

  • Wow, I do not think I will ever be able to look at this comic in the same way again...

  • 2:00 - His attempted suicide was much like all else in his life; doomed to fail, and another step in his decent into madness...

...And funny if you try not to think about it too much.

  • AS A SUFFERER OF "ASPERGERS SYNDROME" I CAN DEFINETELY RELATE TO THIS. THANK YOU.

  • Wow, while we were all just paying attention to Garfield's antics, Jon was dieing slowly inside. If I didn't know about Garfield, I'd believe that this was a stand alone strip.

  • I'm not sure if I should laugh, cry, or just be weirded out.

  • the song?

    is that imogen heap?

  • this is just awesome in every sense. it just broke my soul.

  • Damn, the Silent Hill music just increases the creepiness factor up to eleven.

  • @MrWarheadFilms yea, it stopped being a comedy and it just turned very dark.

  • I was having a totally great day up until I saw this.

I really just want to give Jon a hug, because I feel like I certainly need one.

  • 3:51 and the last one are probably the most chilling of the group, creating a simple yet frightening window into Jon's very being.

    I'm sad now.

  • This has to be one of the most mix-emotions videos I've ever seen... I laughed several times while watching it the first time, in the morning before going to work, then i got into my car, turned the key, and started to cry....

  • @HighHatSalem ur sad

  • Oh. My. God. I think I'm gonna go kill myself now....

  • Nice to see Jon being suicidal and having an ice cream-in-the-face fetish.

    These comics were always brilliant.

  • Cool, thanks for taking the work of others and doing nothing exciting, special, or creative with any of it.

  • @LiamDonov Jesus Christ, what a sad, bitter person you must be. Kinda like Arbuckle

  • @eirikwegga You're the one going through six month old Youtube comments to say stupid things about dumb shit.

    a durrrr

  • Comment removed

  • @eirikwegga except i'm not overreacting. the video is a bunch of work other people did with a song that somebody else made. there is nothing creative, insightful, or cool about it. i don't understand why you or other people think this guy deserves credit for doing literally nothing.

  • I hope now everyone knows why Garfield is so important to the character Jon. Without Garfield, Jon would never have met Liz (after all, the cat IS Jon's ticket to the vet). Apparently, Odie (and Lyman, if you remember the early years) are also absent from this. They would also have prevented depression and insanity.

In short, the other characters (Garfield, especially) are the life of the comics.

  • right now there is a black hole named after this comic and kratos shall kill john for jon has become emo! LONG LIVE KRATOS THE GOD OF WAR.

  • ''There's something

    wrong with my pants.

    0.o''

  • What about Garfield minus Jon?

  • Is it bad that I laughed at this?

  • Garfield has died, and is survived with an empty shell of a depressed man in denial.

  • this is fucking depressing.

  • Why does Jon's descent into madness give me nightmares?

  • W/e, I found this to be hysterical, but you'll only find it funny if you're into dark humor which is what this is. I remember reading a lot of these comics with Garfield in them and it's amazing how distracting Garfield is from Jon's issues. The combination of the music and the comic at 5:41 made me laugh and die a little bit on the inside at the same time.

  • Jon just sounds nuts in these strips

  • Wow. A bit overmuch, wouldn't you say?

  • silent hill song for garfield? what is this shit!? fuck you, man!

  • @Neoadministratoria I don't think you understand the point of Garfield Vs Garfield. Try thinking about it for a bit.

  • @Neoadministratoria I think both you and jon could use some professional therapy. You've got some serious aggression issues, dude.

  • what if this was jim davis' true intention? was he simply inserting garfield in as the smiling face to john's subconsciousness so that there was an appeal to those not necessarily keen on watching a lone man with depression and mental issues? There may well be a chance that Davis is playing out his own thoughts or even satirically providing insigt to how lightly depression is portrayed when there is something so simple as a cartoon cat to distract them...

  • @gloserface

If that was a joke it didnt make me laugh. If it wasnt youre just attention whoring.

  • @Bubbiea That isn't a joke and it has nothing to do with attention whoring? How did you even get the idea that has the purpose of attention whoring? Stop saying random stupid statements

  • @gloserface ..You're joking right? If not, quit reading into things too much this video's hilarious.

  • @Zerrith ever heard of alternate character interpretation? this video is legitimately depressing, in a way because of it.

  • @gloserfaceDo you wat to say that Garfield is simple??? So simple that his only purpose is to distract people? Have you ever read comics about Garfield?

  • @gloserface Do you wat to say that Garfield is simple??? So simple that his only purpose is to distract people? Have you ever read comics about Garfield?

  • This makes Sartre and Camus look like used car salesmen.

  • rofl, he seems so crazy and depressed. What if this is reality . . . and garfield is a part of his psychotic mind?

  • I thought that too. Poor guy needs help. He's going to become a Spree Killer or something if he gets any worse.

  • @KingofStarfox That is why Garfield lives with Jon: to keep such a thing from happening.

  • . Genius

  • that last one is epic

  • This must be the flip side of the "Garfield is slowly starving to death" theory

  • John really needs to get help

  • great XD

  • This is great stuff!!!!
