you will want to use interrupts for when you get hit, which is handy since if you want to decode information from a modulated IRDA
serial LCD is nice, but you'd probably be better off with a parallel LCD using a 74HC595 shift register that way you'd have an SPI interface, that'll keep your serial free and shouldn't affect interrupts
are people going to be watching their LCD's continuously for who shot them? might be better just to store a serial number then upload that after a battle
