Me gustaria responder a tu pregunta glunded, bueno la razón (que por ahora se me ocurre) es por que están saliendo al mercado cada vez más hardware nuevo, esto significa que deve cambiar el sistema operativo para poder usarlas o mejor dicho soportarlas, o de que serviría tener un linux que no pueda manejar wireles o bluetooth, o los nuevos quemadores ligthscribe, todos tenemos que evolucionar algun día.

bueno en eso tiene razon solo se que en la proxima version van a mejorar mas que todo el tiempo de arrance y que solucionen los problemas de aplicaciones con java por que a veces dan problemas cuando uno cierra aplicacion y no lo cierra pero del resto ubunto es 100% estable que la mierda de vista o 7

esos efectos se logran no solo en ubuntu sino, también en cualquier distribución de linux gracias al administrados de opcines compiz-settings-manager, este es un poderoso administrador de efectos para el escritorio de linux que integra lo mejor de compiz y beryl, puedes buscar mas información en youtube buscando por estos nombres

Linuxs strength/weakness is open source means anyone can and does take it in every direction. Imagine how Linux and its programs would be if the whole Linux community focused one just one or two distros!

Im not trying to be flippant I use Ubuntu, OS X, and XP love/hate them all. Programs and compatibility are the driving force! Spinning the desktop around is cool for maybe 5 minutes  after that I want stuff to work! Im not bashing Linux - OS X, and Windows are just as guilty.

LOL. I don't mean the compability for my hardware.

I mean that there are several programs that isn't compatible with Linux Ubuntu.

For example MSN, Skype, WinAmp, WinRAR, Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro, XFire and Fraps.

And I'm a big fan of games, so I play Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142.

If just those programs was working with Linux I'd switch this very minute.

Are those programs really that important?

You can play videos and MP3 with any other player, zip/unzip with ubuntu's native zipper (or download any other, like 7-zip wich , by the way, is the best and is free).

Also, there is a version of skype for linux, and a clone of MSN (aMSN).

I don't know the other applications, but there's a good chance you can either find similar ones for linux or execute the original ones under WINE (windows API clone for linux).

well wine is really good program ...........but u can download linux version of skype ..from it's website......well games..u have to wait for future...till use the dual boot in notebook

Well, I think I stick with Windows untill Ubuntu LSB4 is standard for all versions of Linux.
