  • part 1 and 11 was blocked!!!! please help!!!!!!! suddenly they kissed at the start of part 12..

  • We had to watch this movie in my english class, my friend megan stands up (during the proposal scene with mr. knightly) and says, "just kiss her already!!!" that made the three days watching this worth it:)

  • Beautiful movie. I'm glad I forced myself to watch it since I did not show interest after watching chapter 1. Thank you!

  • What a wonderful movie. I love Jane Austin@ pschloderer

  • what is with mr knightly's straw hat?!?

  • Colin Firth's Darcy, and Jeremy Northam's Knightley are the most wonderful, handsomest characters EVER created. I can't decide who's the best, and I adore them both.

  • An absolutely PERFECT ending!!

  • I think out of all the Austen heroes, I love Tilney and Wentworth the most... but Knightley is nice too.

  • @blubryfields4evr i may b infatuated with mr.darcy but my heart forever belongs to Mr.Tilney

  • Very nice. I can't stop smiling.

  • Gosh, I love that movie...

  • I am quite sure that if men today were to put their mind to it then, they may be just as gentlemanly as the men in all of Jane Austen's novels. As women we really are too severe on the oppisite sex when we ourselves are can be just as bad.

  • I love the way your heart just soars watching this...

  • "now I may not call you mr. knightley, now I may call you" - YES she's gonna call him by his first name how cute - "MY mr. knightley." yeah, great. very personal. :DDD i so do love this. :D jane austen forever!!!!!!

  • Mr. Knightley sure has some thick hair!!

  • D: where can I sign up to get a Mr. Knightly!!!!!!! There's got to be a form or something! I'm in love with him! I demand the form! I will fill it out for days, weeks, months, and years need be!

  • @ULieUBreakMe I'm not sure where you sign up, but I am so happy I finally found mine! He even has the poofy hair! The trick is to marry your best guy friend :D

  • Mr. Knightly married into a fine family. xD

  • I love all versions of EMMA, and it is a favorite book of mine.. I cannot be anything but ASTOUNDED at the talents of Gwyneth Paltrow and Toni Colette, one an American and one an Ozzy who both do FANTASTIC English accents.. BRAVO ladies, bravo indeed :0)x

  • If only men were still like this! :(

  • I want a Mr Knightley too. Meh.

  • i kinda wanted her to end up with frank churchhill....... but knightly was nice too

  • this version`s Mr.Knightly is perfect ;)

  • so lovely film, lovely story. Though I promised to myself not to watch the film until I had finished reading the book but couldnt wait. Thank you for uploading

  • The MUSIC is HEAVENLY! Does anyone know where I can get it. I tried Itunes, but they only had the 2009 BBC version. But, the last line..."Everyone could rejoice in the perfect happiness of the union." Truly inspired and inspiring! I wish all movies could end with lines like that!!

  • I LOVE this movie!

  • I can never tire from watching this movie. This was my very first Jane Austen adaptation I have ever watched (many, many years ago) and I read Emma prior to it. I must say, they did a very good job with the whole thing right down to the set and to the lighting. Everything was pleasing to the eye. Thank you for the post :)!

  • "There is a SHOCKING lack of satin!"

  • @lauraisamazingness No satin Miss laura, i beg of you no satin!

  • @FellowTownsman lol, I get the refference ;)

  • In Emma, I feel Jane's longing for a man such as Mr. Knightly. In real life she never found him, and that makes me a little sad.

  • thanks for the austen fix

  • If only I could have a proposal like that!!!!

  • Isn't it interesting fact, that the two main female leads are American and Australian..BUT I must say the both do a sterling job and the 'English accents' are spot on for the period... Well spoken Toni Colette(AUS) and Gwyneth Paltrow(USA), well done indeed, I am jolly happy with this version of EMMA... But I must say that the 2009 one with Johhny Lee Miller and Romola Garia is my favorite...

Oh did i say that I loved EMMA, isn't Jane Austen a legend :0)x

  • "And he asked to see me the day after that, and on the day after that, he asked if he could see me all the days after..." <3

  • Those Woodhouse sisters do love their Knightley brothers. :)

  • Thx 4 adding

  • j northam is handsome

but i like the bbc version better

  • God bless Jane Austen, such a beautiful history! Hope to find a man like Mr.Knightley one day, so generous, protector, charming, mature...a man with a big M, it must still exist somewhere!

  • @mari2710br it surely does although it won't be easy to find him, right? ;-)

  • I just watched the other miniseries version of this book and I must say that I really liked it, but when I came back to this film, I find I prefer this version a lot more. I guess it's b/c its the one I fell in love with in the first place. it still doesn't mean that its better than the other adaption though, just different and captures me more. it seems so many people dispute which adaptions are better than others for all of Jane Austen's books, but really every adaption has its good qualities

  • This is my favorite version.... by far

    G. Paltrow and J, Northam have great chemistry and make the characters nicer than you imagine when you read the book.

  • I don't know id Jane Austen had the opportunity to meet such men as Mr Knightly, Mr Darcy or Mr Tilney...Or if she, like us, never met such men and just...made them up. Is so, what a shame. I would kill or die to find a man such as them and marry.

  • It wouldnt be right if i comment on this film, as i am an old married man, but were i not an old married man, then i should gladly comment.

  • O that is a beautifully wonderful story!! I just adore Jane Austen stories...so romantic!!!!

  • Just lovely!! thanks so much for uploading! :)

  • This is for sure Jane Austens best books ever. In no other book of her she makes me pleased with a proposal or the details of the happy end, but in Emma. I love this story, this book made me cry, just this one of her. It is full of real, real love, even if you don't want in the first place or you do so many bad things, real love never fades..

  • I've seen every version of Emma that been made, and this is by far the best! The quality is so much better even than the most recent version (2010, Romola Garai/Johnny Lee Miller). Jeremy Northam and Gwyneth Paltrow both do exceeding justice to the characters. Paltrow's able to portray Emma's devious nature, while still retaining an air of good breeding, and Northam has the perfect slightly brooding yet caring temperament that fits Knightly so well.

  • I think Knightly is every girls dream! That was the most gorgeous proposal ever! I don't think I will ever meet a guy quite like him. Kind, caring, generous, rich, handsom, and loving even through faults. But IF I ever do, I will be sure to write a book about it.

  • @Disneyballerina And I'll be sure to read it.

  • Damnit! I want to live a Jane Austen story!

  • i'm sooo blamin jane austen for my high expections in men!

  • Ugh - I want a man like Knightly - a good looking gentleman that I see as a friend and loves every single part of me - faults and all.

Emma is lucky. Now all she has to do is actually grow up to match his maturity and they can "check and balance" each other for the rest of their lives.

  • This is one of my favorites, because she married her best friend. That's what I got. He's not perfect (as Jane's characters would be) but he's wonderful, and he makes me fall in love again every day.

  • i never liked the character of harriet, i always found her foolish and idiotic

  • Thank you so much for uploading this movie!

  • I love this movie...thanks for posting!

  • Girls, please let´s enjoy Emma for what it is, a work of FICTION. Please. Wake up. Stop looking for Mr. Knightley in the real world.

  • @diamantina101 why not look for someone with the qualities of the character Mr. Knightly? Should we as humans have no hope in anything? Or maybe your suggesting that people should be with others they don't nessesarily like or love. yeah....some REAL world.

  • @beanyweanyteany Agreed! And besides, Knightly actually has positive qualities about him that would be highly beneficial in a relationship.

  • @diamantina101 There's absolutely nothing wrong with looking for a guy with the same character traits as Knightely. It's the matter of realizing that the literal character of Knightely will never be found is what counts. There's nothing wrong in looking for qualities that are identical - particularly when they're genuinely good ones.

Now Edward Cullen, on the other hand, is an entirely different story...a stalker and a control freak does not a good lover make.

  • -sigh- You can never find a more perfect ending then this :) oh its so sweet and heart warming I love you Jane Austion your a a genius and an artist :D

Sadly...there aren't men like Mr. Knightley anymore ooh :) hes so dreamy

  • awww how sweet!

  • I want to find a Mr. Knightley too! =P Is there actually any guys like that anymore?

  • Well, finished the story of Emma. Now I am going to write my paper.

  • Jane Austen's novels are all stupendous!

  • For a matchmaker, Emma sure perpetrates a lot of mismatches.

  • I do very much enjoy emma however I feel it is similar to northanger abbey, which although often over looked and forgotten I slightly prefer.

  • @SuzyTurquoiseBlue I LOVE Northanger Abbey! Though shorter, it was only second to my P&P obsession until I read Emma.

I think Emma is liker a longer, calmer, and maybe more mature version. NA was a bit of a whirlwind romance ;)

  • yeah

i can't stop loving jane auten's novels, i just read emma and i love the movie!

  • Thankyou =)

  • 0:44 - 0:54

    My favoutite Emma monent!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this :)

  • @ Mrs. Elton:

Your friends do NOT say you have quite the eye. They'd just say anything to get you to keep quiet.

P.S. Satin can often be over-rated, so there!

  • i cried on this part

  • thanks:))

  • every girl deserves a Knightley....they are out there! dont settle for less...i have an "austen" man...every day is like valentines day with him...its been 2 years and he still kisses my hand goodbye...

  • I seriously recommend the BBC version of Emma. A much better made adaptation. This movie falls far short.

  • @lychee57 ANY adaptation will fall short of her novels--don't you think?

  • I'm convinced that Jane Austen never ment anyone even close to the men she wrote about in he books, that's because men like Mr. Knightly don't exist!

    P.S. Jane Austen never married.

  • @SpendLessBeauty1 aw..no..he did met someone like Mr. Knightly and it was Mr.Thomas Lefroy, but she left him.. for some other reasons.. Ms. Jane Austen was a LEGEND.. i so admire her, and now inspires me to buy her books.. =) all of her books always end with happy endings.. but she never had it, even just for once.. =(

  • @blackspy13 sorry Lefroy was no Knightly ask the Irish whom he treated so badly. Lucky for Jane Austen I do wish she had found her Knightly. She was and remains one of the greatest writers in English BTW I am not sure Mansfield Park has a happy ending--Edmund is no Knightly. But by all accounts Jane Austen was a wonderful person as well as writer

  • :) I love this movie. Mr. Knightley is just *sigh* perfect. And best bit is... I have a real life "Austen-man" chivalrous, smart, loyal, caring and my best friend. Every girl deserves one :)

  • @Lizzy0Lucy Yes, Mr Knightley is wonderful! Oh my goodness, your statement gives me hope! So how did you meet that fantastic gentleman of yours? Please tell. (:

  • Awwh i love the music in this! :) Such a good Movie! :)

  • The elation Mr. Woodhouse felt??? LOL - Not in Jane Austen's universe...

I love the book and the 2009 BBC adaptation, and find this, as ever, badly done.

Especially that blue cloth with the abominable embroidery!:-))))

  • @HermioneNo1 I agree! I, too, love BBC's 2009 adaptation! And Romola is just BEAUITFUL!!!

  • This is undoubtedly the sweetest version of Emma. Fantastic cast, great directing, and wonderful music. Thank you so much for posting!

  • Thank you for uploading a wonderful movie! I just hope Austen's wonderful men do not have a negative influence on single ladies out there, making them dream of

    "Darcy"s and "Knightley"s...

  • D; how I envy all Jane Austen's happy endings. And the men in the stories never fail to charm me. Let's hope there's a Mr Darcy/Knightly/RIGHTLY (as I read in some other post) for ALLLLL of us :D! Austen's stories always make me giggle like a silly 6 year old... Oh wellllll *melts anyway 'cause the ending was so sweet* ;_; !

  • mr knightley actually looks a lot like paul rudd from clueless :)

  • Mr. Knightley to Mr. Knight? great

  • of course the pretty girl got the handsome kind man from the beginning of the movie... everyone else's story was frivolous.

  • i love jane austens books and all the films made based on them. They are all so romantic, its truly beautiful.

  • @Zalienka agreed, Kate's my favorite

  • The scenery in this movie is beautiful, I love the tree they are under..1.12...okay heart is swooning! The men seemed to love so deeply in these movies. Thanks for posting and I like reading all of your comments, like watching the move with a group of girlfriends.

  • i loved that movie...it was so cute! i love jane austin's books and the movies they make inspired by her books!

  • Beautiful story! The narrator was Mrs Elton, right?

  • mrs. weston

  • Are you saying that the lady in 4:08 is Mrs Weston? I'm pretty sure it's Mrs Elton, unless there is something I'm not seeing. I'm just a little confused..

  • ohyea the woman at like 4:08 is Mrs Elton, but Mrs Weston is the one who was narrating the whole time. thats what i thought you meant :)

  • I didn't like Emma too much. Book or movie. I'm more fore Pride and Prejudice. :)

  • Thanks for posting.

  • I wish he were with me now but someday hel come

  • WTF, that was Ewan McGregor?!?!?

  • lol! omg i didnt realise until the credits too!!

  • Gweneth Paltrow is gorgeous~

  • It was good, a nice watch, but it seemed to rush the plot a bit and the characters weren't quite right. But then I guess you can't really compare a novel to a film as it always has to squash it up a bit.

Anyone wanting to watch a better version should look for the BBC1 series adaptation of 'Emma' it was really good.

  • Ooooh I've seen it... indeed, it was really good! Better than the movie, but they're both great :D

  • which one would that be? the one with kate bekinsale or the latest one with ramola

  • My boyfriend told me that he loves me tonight, and this is the movie I wanted to watch! haha im such a girl

  • @leahelainewolf I'm so sorry! I accidentally thumbs downed your comment when trying to do exactly the opposite! I am using a new laptop and must have not noticed my pressing the mousepad down. Dx Sooorrrrryyyy!

  • Well done as a film, but the new BBC 4 hour version is excellent IMO.

  • lovely lovely lovely xD

  • No. Greta Scacchi (Mrs Weston) was the narrator.

  • lovly ending to a perfectly lovly film. *smiles happly*

  • mrs elton was the narrator? what the heck?!

  • Superb plot Jane Austen and magnificent casting of the movie...I love to watch it over and over again!

  • DELIZIOSO

  • Frank Churchill is in desparate need of a comb and a deep hair conditioner treatment--or a new wig.

  • Great. And here begins my search for an "Austen-man" in the real world.

  • join the club

    lol=)

  • ha, you're not alone in that lol

  • Yeah. No kidding!

So, where are our "Mr. Rightly's"?? lol

  • Indeed, I guess we just have to look hard to find our Mr. Knighly's LOL

  • me too. shame men arent as gallant now. :'( i could do with a mr. Darcy <3

  • I think we could all do with a mr. darcy. It you know that frank churchill (ewan mcgregger) plays Obi Wan Kanobi in star wars!!!! When i saw this movie i was like "hey look its obi wan" i was so excited

  • no!!! no, you're joking!!! thats impossible!!! oh my bloody god. that is wierd.

  • @lonesomelittlegirl - Exactly the same here. Shame women arent as amiable and gentle now...'(I would love a miss Fairfax myself), and be a content old married man.

  • @lonesomelittlegirl and a Mr. Knightl(e)y :-)

  • @Fulumirani I want an Austen-man so badly too!! their so awesome

  • @Fulumirani I feel your pain. lol

  • @Fulumirani LOL!!!

  • @Fulumirani

you'll be sadly disappointed.Men are trash in real life.Only Austen-men could have the guts to go through all this.

  • @maham21jan I beg to differ madam, when a true gentleman comes along with all the best qualities to qualify him, albeit somewhat slightly lacking in good looks, they are not given a second glance, that is the sad burden of living in present times. As things stand I wholeheartedly promulgate such disappointments in such foolish females.

  • @GARRYKINGLIVE

maybe.but Austen men were a bit good-looking if not too good-looking in addition to being gentlemen.

  • @maham21jan Thats not true. I was single for 5 years before I met the love of my life. And he is as kind, gentle and loving as Mr K. There are men like M K out there in this time and this world.

  • @TheGlassbooks you're very lucky. :) there might be but Very very FEW. and fewer of them have a chance of fancying you if you've actually found one. so consider yourself VERY lucky.

  • @Fulumirani

I wish you very good luck, this is written so cute hehehe,

    Dont give up!!!!

  • Why is the 1996 BBC version the only one with the line: "I held you in my arms when you were three weeks old" and "Do you like me as well now as you did then?" Favorite line.

  • Who is the narrator? Does anyone know? IMDB does not have that information.

  • Greta Scacchi (Mrs Weston) is the narrator.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh loooooveee thisss movviiieee!!!! =D

  • Thank you! This story makes me okay with being single for now. I want to follow in Emma's footsteps and marry a man that knows exactly how stupid I am at times and still adores me. This story never falls to inspire me

  • @vmuzic yours is a lovely comment I just came upon it--though your appreciation of Jane Austen's genius clearly shows you are hardly stupid---good luck! I suspect your "Mr. Knightly" will be a very fortunate man indeed! Cheers!

  • @vmuzic Thats a really nice thing to read. I was single for 5 years, not having met any decent men, but am now with the love of my life. Been together 3 years. There are decent men out there.,

  • @TheGlassbooks - yes you're right, they are out there and certainly worth the wait:)

  • No, sorry, too sugary for me. The joke at the end with the turkies was an Austen-end. But thank you for posting it.

  • Lol, i did cry; though happy tears. Thank you for posting:)

  • o i absalutly adored this movie i almost cried

  • Thank you very much for sharing this story here. It was interesting to see 'Emma' brought on screen. But I couldn't really get used to Paltrow and Colette as Emma and Harriet. They did a nice job and tried what they could, but yet, somehow even after watching the entire movie, I still didn't manage to see them as Emma and Harriet. But yet, it was an enjoyable movie adaption of the book.

  • Sorry, Paltrow didn't try what she could, even in the interview to the question " Which research you did, what books you reed", she answered "nothing"( sorry I don't remember exact her words)

  • That's interesting. I didn't know that.

  • Thank you so much for uploading! I had to cry in the end!!!^^

  • this was a beautiful movie! :)

  • have you ever read the book? Gwyneth Paltrow's character is of such qualities plus the naivety of a young lady who is brougt up with more resources than the rest of people who are part of her social entourage. I do think that Paltrow lacked tto diaplay hat innocence that Austen portrays so very delicately in her book.

  • I hated Gwenyth Paltrow in this movie....but that just means she did a great job! She played the character very well, and in the end, I was happy she realized her true love!

  • And he has been in love wifth her since she was about 13 years old...

  • i love this movie

  • emma is 21, mr. knightley is 37-38 in book austen

  • emma is21, mr. knightley is 37-38 in book austen

  • Comment removed

  • thanks so much for posting this :D

  • thanks for uploading, i love this movie!!

  • and how old is she supposed to be?

  • I think 16 or 18. I haven't read the book in a while, but he is quite a bit older than her. But this was completely normal for the time.

  • She's twenty-two; she said it herself when she was thanking Mr. Knightley for rescuing Harriet. : )

  • Emma is almost twenty-two (she says it herself in the course of the film), and Mr. Knightley claims to have been sixteen when she was born--ergo, he is now thirty-eight.

Fortunately, they both agree that the twenty-two intervening years of growth have narrowed the gap somewhat. : )

  • Emma is 22, Mr. Knightly is 36 ;)

  • oops!! wrong age there, he is 16 yrs older :)
