  • As a child, I thought they were alot bigger than that.

  • that's a frickin whale. nota shark

  • @gameboy3800

dude its a rare species of shark that only has 51 know specimins and 2-3 on video

  • i know what it is.just sayin its a whale cuz iz frickin huge!

im doing a report on the megamouth... T_T

  • scratch last comment never mind >>;

  • @gameboy3800 its not that big, ive seen great whites nearly this size, the shark in jaws was 25 feet and they have found 20 foot great whites in real life..

  • @gameboy3800 Whales don't have gills!

  • if this is a whale, why does it have gills? -_-

  • That creeps me out! those divers are brave, that thing is fuckin huge!

  • its philippines dude I was born and i Iive there, remember that

  • no albo English? lololololololololololololol

    jk

  • you can find them at philliepienes (that how you spell it?) right now

  • nice. this is rare. the mega mouth shark was discovered in 1976 and there have only been like 44 ish recorded sightings, they are only 1 of 3 filter feeding sharks which means they feed on zooo plankton. this is an amazing shark and we need to protect it!!!

  • how can you protect something you know nothing about? How bout we just leave them be.

  • OMG its CUTE!! It's all sad looking lol

  • OMG THATS THE SHARK ay naku Na mega mouth shark sobra lumaki sorry if didnt say those filippino words right im filippino and im born in america

  • putang i na mo sa pinas na una ma keta eto

  • thats a huge bitch

  • i heard the news and they say there's only 40 left in the world

  • no.. there are only 40 encounters since it got first discovered.

  • 47 sightings, supposedly

  • its supposed to live hundreds meters deep in the sea, coming up at night

  • there have been 41 spotings of this shark

  • how scary

  • It goes to prove that there is so much life out there in the ocean (the world even, whether in land or at sea) that we don't know about. The first sighting was on november 16th 1976. There is so much life tht we are yet to discover! the megamouth shark is such a prehistoric creature aswell.

  • the filipino fisherman would not have eaten the shark if the WWF had offered to buy it from them. guess they didnt

  • It looks like a giant tadpole made out of rock!

  • A fine delicacy saute with coconut milk.. eaten by ignorant fishermen.

  • And on that note... This video is amazing. These sharks are absolutely beautiful. Diving with them must be an incredible experience!

  • We discover at least one new species (I'm talking about the entire plant, animal, fungi, etc. kingdom) per day. Typically when these discoveries are made, there is only one specimen found. Now, if what some of you are saying is true, that the amount of specimens you find equivocates to the number of that species to exist, then that would mean that each of these new species would be singular entities created from a random anomaly, and not by some form of reproduction. Therefore, it is not true.

  • You're an idiot. There are fewer than 50 left. It's on the brink of extinction. Maybe you should care less about making an idiot of yourself and more about the world around you.

  • Saying there have only been fifty or less sightings does not infer there are only fifty of these sharks... There may be many more. Stupid comments like the one you responded to are only put out there to get attention and ellicit reactions. Don't waste your time with them...

  • fortunately mate, scientist are much more smarter then you their predictions a very close to the real number.

  • How the heck do you know how many are left? You must be one of those "Global Warming" headless chicken wanna-be-better-than-the-rest say anything without any actual facts. I just read online that there's been 43 catch/sighting since mid 70'. How do you explain how many is left WORLWIDE???

  • Next some actor will be begging money for the Megamouth fund. Only 5% of the Ocean is even explored. No real scientist would say that there was fifty of these due to 43 sightings. There is so much politics in science now you cannot believe half of it. Kudos to real scientist that leave politics out. Real science is completely objective and can hold up to critisism... with evidence.

  • asshole, 46 have been caught or sighted since 1976. their could be alot that are living that we have no idea about.

  • true true, scientist just make estimates. no one can know for sure how many there left.

  • 1 just died today sad

  • pokemon! i gotta catch it!

  • tony dow is behind this siting....

  • cute shark :D

  • They look nicer then the other sharks, haha. I'd still be scared swimming with him.

  • barehands? how do you hold that money then? lol

  • i wouldnt kill a shark for a million dollars, these things are cool and represents the true beauty of the sea, well not unless you have a view of your leg in the mouth of a GW with red all over the place BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! I WOULD NEVER KILL A SHARK FOR A MILLION DOLLAZ!

  • yeah, only about 40 of these left in the world. ENTIRE world.

  • that we know of. there could be tons more. apparrently it was caught in waters that are about 660' deep. i mean we know more about mars than our own planet.

  • thats what i meant

  • ugh no, theres only been 41 of these ever seen. we have no clue about how many of these shark are out there.

  • @BMW325cinj Same

  • @BMW325cinj true true! me too!

  • @BMW325cinj A person that thinks like me? No.

  • so THRILLED to finally see one filmed. I was a teen in the 70's (??) when they first pulled this up off CA. coast, but haven't seen/heard they'd been filmed til now. Wow!

  • another example of a thought none existing animal to exist..makes u wonder if bigfoot, mokele mbembe and Nessie really exist also

  • Things that should be made extinct through the liberal use of explosives for $400, Alex!

  • lordauron

    Why?

  • Because it is not well enough known for the $100, $200, or $300 spots; but still known well enough to not warrant higher than $400.

As to my hatred, it is simply based on my dad bashing my head into the glass over the megamouth at the LA Museum of Natural History it gave me a wicked case of megachasmaphobia. So, like clowns, they need to be destroyed utterly.

As to people who ask, "Why not hate your dad then?" I do hate him more than the shark I can just hate more than one thing.

  • lordauron

That didn't make much sense. But thanks anyways!

  • eh, you sound like you deserved it

  • This is what mick jagger would look like as a shark, Thanks muchly for sharing video, and releasing to the public a video of the illusive creature in it's natural environment.

  • megamouths dont eat meat lol they eat alagea and plankton.

  • man !! wat the hell is that megafish o.O

  • so THRILLED to finally see one filmed. I was a teen in the 70's (??) when they first pulled this up off CA. coast, but haven't seen/heard they'd been filmed til now. Wow!

  • wow that looks like a kool shark

  • megamouth scientific name: Megachasma pelagios

  • id like to be very clear to anybody that has read the post by ImOnTopOfBrokenTrust while he was aabsolutely correct on the fact that the megaladon (c. megaladon) is in fact an extict species. He was, however, incorrect on his comment about the megamouth. Though the name of this shark may lead some to think this is a hoax (i hate the name) it is in fact a true living palagic shaark which feeds exclusively on planktonic life.

  • wow. i really hope he/she finds a lover, we need more of these

  • yep this is a megamouth. but cant believe only 37 confirmed sighted..

  • Wikipedia says 41... where did your figure come from?

  • The megalodon most likely went extinct durring prehistoric times, but the megamouth is still around.

  • this is a megamouth

  • 1 hell of abig shark

  • i don't think this is a megamouth shark. they are deepsea sharks and incredibly rare.

  • the face looks like pacman!

  • rofl . it does.

  • basking shark/plankton feeder, mega mouth are a deep sea spiecies and dark brown in color.

  • WEIRD ASS SHARK!!!!!

  • it is a shark for those who dont believe and one of the recently discovered (in comparison to other sharks) and is also a very old species of shark

  • poor shark looks dumb, not saying that in a condescending way....it just looks dumbfounded. like many people i see on the streets....scary!

we rely on these dumb people to help us manage the world. often they rely on the smarter folks.

  • nut-ah its a giant gray deep sea cod.

  • what is that

  • fucking weird

  • This isn't a whale shark. It's a Megachasma pelagios or more commonly known as the megamouth shark.

  • HAHAHHAA he thought he knew what he was talking about... OWNED!!!!it clearly looks nothing like a whale shark... AHAHAHAHHA i pitty the fool!!!

  • tch tch no need to be nasty about it lol. Anyone can make a mistake. And shame on whoever thumb downed sirovidius (I thumbed him up to 0), he was politely correcting him, that's all. Now about the video, this is easily the best video of this extremely rare animal which has only been seen dead or alive 37-39 times officialy (every site I go to has a different number). It's as mentioned before harmless to anything but krill, and perhaps one of the strangest animals in the sea.

  • an organism doesn't necessary have to look the same to be in the same species

  • Whale Sharks are darker in color and have white dots along their bodies. This is clearly not a whale shark

  • Wow!

  • woah.. nice looking! i wouldn't dare to be an second with that beast in the water XD

  • The shark is harmless dude. It eats plankton and small fish despite its massive size. Its kind of like a whale sharks. Its also a rare shark so SAVE OUR SHARKS!

  • No, its actually quite docile, a lot like the whale shark. It's main diet is small shrimp, and it actually comes up from its habitat in the deep sea to feed on the shrimp during the night. Excellent video of a beautiful animal.

  • is it vicios?

  • That thing mouth is huge! xx{

  • wow rare shark man

  • well despite its name the "megamouth" shark its pretty obveous that it has a big mouth hahaha im just messing with you

  • I agree with yshew! I wanna see the Megalodon! It did exist! I have a 6inch tooth of it! :) I luuuuuuv sharks! -iSharki (Watch my show!)

  • wow its supposed to be extinct

  • Japan scientists say it's related to the Megalodon.

  • it looks like a puppy =)

  • looks liek a pokemon.

  • lmao

  • rofl rofl lolz

  • guys,go onto my profile, look at my favourites, ive got another one like this about a prehistoric shark, probably the last of its species.whitch some asians killed.(why did the dumb pricks take it out of the water in the first place!?)

  • It was a deep water shark found in shallow water, either because it was fished up and thrown back, or because a current had carried it up. Either way, its gills were blown out by the decompression, so it wouldn't have survived. And the "dumb pricks" who took in out of the water probably learned more about that species than we ever could have learned otherwise. They made the best of a bad situation, and what they learned will help us protect that species in the future.

  • hwo culd they be a threat to humans if they are kinda "slow" haha but they are awesome frum wut i see

  • as big as megamouths are they are not man eaters they are filter feeders and are no threat to humans.

  • If you like sharks check out adoptashark dotcom where you can adopt a shark that has a satellite tag and find out where it went. They are tagging a great white this month

  • it's food, and people were hungry. i think its sad though, that they would fish these sharks though they're extremely rare. oh and they are such a discovery because they're a deep watershark. and people were surprised that a shark that grows up to over 10 feet long wasn't discovered yet.

  • Saw a dead one in a tank in 1985. Huge but flat looking due to the half nitrogen tank. As prehistoric as it looks, it a five gill shark....not sooooo old.

Older and still living sharks are the ultra rare 6 gills.

  • it might be a mutated whale shark lol

  • This is a Megamouth Shark,it's not a Megalodon,i really wish that it still exists.Anyway,Megamouth Shark's are very rare and was discovered a few years back, and it's already endangered,i think. And if you want to see something really bad,go and search for '5 girls,3 mexicans,1 big shark'.These people in the video are very cruel.I hate those guys.

  • I bet it gives great head.

  • i guess that goes without saying lol

  • i didnt know megamouth was that big...

  • thats 100 pounds of shark fin soup

  • it can actually weigh up to 1 ton

  • its eyes just look like bumps of skin. how does it see?

  • These sharks live usually at a depth of 500m and come to the surface to feed at night. They have been found mainly in the warm waters of the indo-pacific region but appear to be found all throughout the tropics and subtropics. This footage was taken from the first live specimen found in the early 90's, caught in Californian waters.

  • Lets help a few of you's guys out. This is rare footage of a rarely seen Megamouth Shark(Megachamsa Pelagios). This species was only discovered in 1976, and o this day, around 39 sharks have been spotted, washed ashore, and caught since then.CONT

  • i read that of those 39 6 of them were consumed after being captured. do you know anything about that? like if they tasted good or what reason was given for people to eat them?

  • Its not a megaladon those shark have been excient for 1,000 years.

  • cool

I never see a Megamouth before. I heard that the sharks are 5 meters long and that 6 ones are discovered

  • The megamouth shark is probably the rarest, gentlest, and most amazing creature in the ocean. Thanks so much for posting this footage...it's the only known underwater video of a live megamouth shark. Beautiful.

  • Japanese researchers just discovered a big,and i mean BIG shark lately,it resides in water as deep as 1500meters.

  • oh well if the japs discovered it then its fucked.Itll soon be for sale at the fish markets

  • That was amazing! Totally Old World design. Gimme More!

  • I knew a slut in high school who sucked a mean dick who was nick named "megamouth"

  • lol

  • There was a Huge shrark that is now is no longer alive that was nicked name Megamouth for for the size of the teeath. They were as big or even bigger as a mans hand. They could put baby humpback whales in there MOUTH!!!! thats how big they were. It was the real jaws

  • are you talking aboot Megaloden? man, that would be cool if it was still living. Those scuba divers are lucky, not everyone gets to swim with a megamouth

  • The name is Megolodon, it was a prehistoric shark big enough to park a VW Bug in it's mouth. Megs are my favorite.

  • I think you´re mixed up with the MEGATOOTH, the Great White´s ancestor (Megalodon)... over twice its size, and, right, teeth the size of a man´s hand. The one on this video is actually a MEGAMOUTH shark.

  • That would be the Megalodon shark. It was basically a giant sized ancestor of the Great White. And yes, it ate whales - prehistoric whale bones have been found with Megalodon tooth marks in them.

  • I read somewhere that the megamouth will sometimes surface when sick and or old. This looks to be the case here.

  • just think, sharks have looked the same for millions of yrs....that thing looked the same when donos were around...

  • It is a megamouth shark. Not much is known about this species. They are deep sea sharks that live below human limitations. They are a plankton feeder. NOT A BASKING SHARK! It is harmless to humans as you can tell by the shape of its mouth.

  • It's not a basking shark, it's a Megamouth (discovered in the 70's or 80's). An extremely rare species, this is one of only about two dozen ever reported (filmed off the Japanese coast I think). Clumsy, slow, not dangerous (a bit like the basking shark but not as big)

  • OMG thats soooooo scary! i would never be that close to something that big!

  • budyy what tha hell is that .....

what kinda shark is it ...??

  • Basking Shark

  • No, it's a Megamouth Shark. Basking Sharks are large filter feeding sharks. Megamouths eat detritus...which is dead animal parts that float from the surface to the deep ocean. They rarely come to the surface...the person who took this video lucked out.

  • Thats a big shark.Didnt know it lived in such shallow water.

  • Probably, I thought for meal. Or since swimming power was weak, may float by the rising flow.
