  • Excellent video Steve thank you for sharing much appreciated

  • @charleydeepwater Thanks!,I'm just getting started.

    Steve

  • We are doing more very soon, concerning hand lettering. I'm glad they are appreciated, thanks.

    Steve

  • Thanks for the videos Steve!

  • Great video, Steve. My question has to do with spraying kandies over the gold/silver leafing. Once the leaf has been applied, can the kandy be sprayed right over the leaf or does one need to apply the size and/or quick coat of clear first? Thanks!

  • @veloziraptor A good rule of thumb is to always clearcoat over any art before spraying anything, it alows repairs to be made sately. If your clearing over one shot put several drops of the catylist into your thinner to marry the chemicals, it will prevent lifting/wrinkling.

  • @veloziraptor A good rule of thumb is to always clear over art before doing more painting, it will allow you to fix errors. Also add a few drops of your catylist to your thinner ,that will "marry" the paint and will discourage lifting/wrinkling when final clearcoat is app-lied

  • Hey Steve,

I tried some leafing, but with imitation leaf (I'm only 16 and don't have the money for real gold), and I was wondering if you knew if the imitation gold would not burnish like true gold. How long should I wait after putting the leaf on to start burnishing? When I tried burnishing right away it would peel off and not make the swirls. I am just learning for my 31 ford hot rod. Thanks, keep up the awesome videos. It really helps.

    Chase

  • @DCnHotrods Hi Chase, there are so many variables with leafing ,the size wasn't dry enough,, leaf applied too early, too hard of a spin, not the right spinning material. Don't get discouraged it's worth the effort! I also had a 31 model A when I was your age, lots of fun and education. Keep at it and if you need help, just ask.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve love all your videos, very helpful, I ordered the Rolco Quick dry guilding size, what are you using for the clear coat? Thanks Shirl

  • @tenor0555 In the video I used the size as clear, this works according to the label. They make a clear but never sent any for the demo, I have not tried it to date. I have brushed on a catalyzed urethane with success, and you can be sure of the durability.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hey Steve. The Rolco Quick Dry Gilding size I ordered just showed up this mornin'. I finally found a place that would ship to AK since my local art supply store doesn't carry it. I put out a call to Dave at Frame Masters and got some 22k and 23k on the way. He's very nice to deal with and wanted to thank you for the recommendation. I can't wait to try it out. I'm going to watch this video a few DOZEN more times. Haha. Take care, and thanks for all the help Steve. :-)

  • Nice job!

I'm in Phoenix also. Could I stop by and get some pointers sometime?

  • @natealb M-F 9:30-5:30 good to call ahead to make sure I don't miss you .

    Regards,

    SWteve

  • can rolco with 2k clearcoat paint over ? because I want to make a car ...

  • sorry it's not letting me post the photo. I'll shoot it to you on the FaceBook.

  • Welcome to My World P2 came in the mail today. This one is a GREAT follow up to P1.Love the work on the Harley.I haven't quite found the right consistency for my paint on a consistant basis.Sometimes I can get it just right, and WOW it's a blast, but when it's too thin,or for some reason just comes off the tip and almost reacts like oil and water.I usually wipe it clean, and try it again. It's just too much fun when paint mix is right to give up on it.Here's a pic of my Kafka inspired hood piece.THNX

  • Almost sounds like the size is still in the brush , clean it out again , and give it another go. It's always fantastic to hear from guys like you ,Glad your enjoying yourself, let me know if you need help.

    Steve

  • Hey Steve. Just got Welcome to my world vol1 for Christmas. Loved it! Can't wait to buy vol2, and the lettering brushes when they come available. Even with the YouTube vids, those DVD's still offer cool tips and tricks. It was very inspirational, after watching it I HAD to grab my #3 and some 1Shot. Thanks Steve

  • @precision25 That's the reason I did the dvd's I wont do anymore because of smartflix, they rip off all of the artists by renting their products. I'm really glad you've been inspired ,it has been my intention to do this all along,if I can help you just ask.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Thanks

    Sean

  • @precision25 I'm trying to have them available after the first of the year ,they will first appear on my site, everyone that's tried them wants a set ,so I feel more confident about bringing them to the market.

    Steve

  • @kafkapinstriping Cool! Can't wait.

  • Hey Steve have ever used 1shot 4008 Fast Dry Gold size? What do you think of it? Or does the other stuff just perform better?

Thanks for all the great videos,

    Sean

  • @precision25 The Rolco quick size is the most cooperative sizing I have ever used, it's sold everywhere , and I've leafed in as little as 1/2 hour(in phoenix in the summer, try it you'll like it .

  • Steve-

    Raf

  • very cool! simple but striking!! look forward to more of your videos.

  • Always look forward to your videos Steve. It nice to see a true legend share his knowledge with those of us just trying to figure this stuff out! Thanks for all you do.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words,it never gets old. Alton Gillespie just showed up to do the lettering on the Von Dutch Bus restoration project and misc. other projects, should be fun,I'll be putting up more on this later.

    Thanks again,

    Steve

  • You are a good guy Steve. You promote our industry and art form. So many of the real pro stripers are premadonnas and will not show the guys coming up the tricks of the trade. I have found that competition actually increases business. God bless you and your family

  • It is refreshing to hear from someone that remembers how tough it was to get ANY advice from someone in the trade, most of use were self taught and know how it feels. This is the greatest art form I've ever been involved in and I want to share it with as many interested artists as I can , developing as many helpful tools as I can. Some people just don't get it ,if we don't help , the art form that we love will suffer without new blood . Thank you for your kind thoughts.

    Regards Steve

  • Wish I were back in Arizona - where I am it is 20 degrees - horrible!! Just got the car going and now I can't wait to try striping! Best wishes.

  • @66Lincoupe I came to Az. to avoid those temps I feel sorry for your frozen butt!, better you than me,even the Az. winters are getting too cold. If you need help to get started just ask.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Wauw love it,

    very nice job Steve!!!

  • @renegade1be Thanks for the kind words, you should try leafing it's a lot of fun

    Regards,

    Steve

  • compared to a regular striping job, whats the cost difference?

    love it still!!

  • @psychodelicdragon All the work I do is custom there is no standard price because I charge per design, per color ,and double for centerpiece designs ,so the client can spend what he wants. I tell them they can go as fast as they want to go or as wild as they want. I hope this helps you.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • what would you charge for a job that size?

    very excellent job!!

    love the vids!

  • Once again...good job my friend. preacher

  • @PINSTRIPERART Thanks Preacher always nice to hear from you.

    Steve

  • Thanx for posting this very inspirational video,...Did you say you used the size thinned out as a clear coat?

  • They say that their sizing can be used as a clearcoat , although it can turn yellow. The topcoat that they were supposed to send didn't show up in time, so I'll do another video and use it then. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

    Regards ,

    Steve

  • very nice steve

(would have loved a close up though).

    cheers mate!
