Romney is absolutely correct, the poor have Medicaid, food stamps, free school lunches for their kids, access to welfare, government housing, work programs, Head Start for their kids, etc. What do the middle class have? an uphill battle as we face rising food prices, rising gas prices, rising healthcare premiums, rising college education costs, lower salaries, unemployment, job outsourcing, etc. Meanwhile the middle class continues to carry this country financially.
They have a safety net, which he wants to rip away so that the middle class falling into the same path will have nothing, no food stamps and no shelter, when they've lost work. If you're middle class, and you're looking for work, as he said, you are in fact no longer middle class but poor.

Now imagine if I was interviewing for a teaching position, and I said, I am not concerned about the gifted kids and I am not concerned about the very challenged (special ed) students because they have accomodations and modifications? I wouldn't get hired. See the analogy? Based on what Romney said, he is not presidential.

I know people who were very poor, but used education to pull themselves out of poverty.
As a teacher accomodations can assist students who are special ed and low achievers, but it never helps them boost their reading and math level. The reason for this is because it creates a condition of learned helplessness. Like, they are going to do this for me so I don't have to do it. As teachers we use remediation, different strategies, and different learning paths to assist those students who are sped students and underachievers. A hand up-not a handout.

Well put. I am teacher and I teach a variety of students: gifted, the vast majority of kids in the middle of the Bell Curve, and the very challenged (special ed students). Now imagine if I was interviewing for a teaching position, and I said, I am not concerned about the gifted kids and I am not concerned about the very challenged (special ed) students because they have accomodations and modifications? I wouldn't get hired. See the analogy? Based on what Romney said, he is not presidential.

The so called "safety net" is not desirable for poor people because they stay poor and have no major chance of mobility. The safety net treats the symptoms of poverty. I know people who were very poor, but used education to pull themselves out of poverty.

As a teacher accomodations can assist students who are special ed and low achievers, but it never helps them boost their reading and math level. The reason for this is because it creates a condition of learned helplessness. Like, they are going to do this for me so I don't have to do it. As teachers we use remediation, different strategies, and different learning paths to assist those students who are sped students and underachievers. A hand up-not a handout.
