This is the 1962 Bagshot Scramble, (21st January).
Keith Mernickle came second to John Atkins in a sprint finish.
I came 41st.
My Club (Middlesex Clarion C & AC) rode out from London, rode the Cyclocross, rode home after ( total 70 miles) and then in the evening went out drinking at a jazz and blues club (Eel Pie Island)!!

They all seem very over-geared compared to today's riders spinning away with compact gears.

Never had compacts in those days. The leading rider is Keith Mernickle who later became a pro.
