I think it must have been frustrating to box Tyson. His head movement is phenomenal. The way he bobs & weaves and slips punches is much more entertaining than his big shots. You can get any big cat off the street and he can throw a big punch. But Tyson was unbelievable
at making you miss.
I wish Mike would get into coaching. I know he says he will never get back in the ring and I understand and respect that. But, he has so much knowlege of this sport, it's a shame he doesn't teach.
Bone Crusher Smith is one of the toughest SOBs in Boxing history. He took Tyson's best punches and smiled at him and he almost got Tyson at the very end. Smith had only been knocked down ONCE in his career when he fought Tyson and you can see how tough the man was because Tyson was not able to knock him down once. You put a young Bone Crusher smith in there and Tyson would have huge problems.
@kanguesso I think that Smith dude is just thrash, he's not tough at all. Tyson barely got any clean punches in and his face swelled up anyway.
Also, Smith fights like a bitch. I can imagine him fighting against everyone like that, which makes it only natural that people have trouble knocking him down.
Smith did an oustanding fight takinc consideration 2 things: Tyson was on his prime, and 13 years younger than him. Smith was showing better manners and way much more experience. Tyson was just brute force and needed a lot to learn yet. Hej: I love watching Tyson fights. Is not this one one of his best.... at all..
@impac01 It's not intentional; just what happens sometimes when you miss a punch, but keep your elbows up high. In fact, most fighters are taught to keep their elbows up high when punching just in case an elbow may land if the glove misses. It's just a part of boxing like kidney punches, holding and hitting, check hooks, etc. All technically illegal, but often times allowed to slide because boxing, being a very physical sport, would suck if you stopped the action everytime something happened.
Bonecrusher fought this fight like a fuckin' bitch. He knew he couldn't win, so he just did everything he could to keep from getting knocked out. Pretty pathetic, really.
@vacakpocok No, idiot, you fight to win. Bonecrusher was a champion and a seasoned pro. If he was so scared of getting hurt or knocked out that he felt like he would have to run away all night, then why bother taking the fight at all? In other words, this is the worst kind of performance there is in boxing. If he took some chances, fought a good fight with Tyson, and got knocked out, the fans would have actually respected him a lot more. Running for 12 rounds gains you no respect at all.
Its not a muscle twitch, Tyson is moving his head trying to anticipate punches and throw off the timing of the other guys punches. He was a very good boxer early in his career.
Fuckin' WOW!! I'm aware that this fight was not one of Mike's best. and, yes, there was some stretches of boring boxing, but, "DAMN!" with the editing. I felt like I was witnessing inside the mind of someone with ADD.

what i loved most about Tyson was his fearlessness! In every fight he had he never took 1 step backwards he was always the instigator! and to think he was using this style knowing he's younger than his opponents ! what a legend!
@iaintmadatcha yap, even in the fight where he was losing... against douglas, holyfield and lewis... he still trying to coming forward and throwing punches, even in weak condition. You cant find any fight of Tyson where he acted like Hopkins!
this guy looks so bumy in the tyson fight in the beggening he looks lousy and slow motion and tyson didnt look his best here he looked like he was like practicing how to move just u know having fun.. were already out here lol
Smith's corner was screaming at him in this fight. He was tying up ok, but he had gone into a defensive shell, he was going right hand crazy, and he basically gave up his belt without even trying. He did connect with some big punches in the last round, but at that point his only hope was a last second KO, and it just wasn't in the cards. Smith never really hit the big time again.
Smith just wrapped up Tyson, ran around, and frustrated the hell out of him. This was about the only way anyone could fight Tyson without getting killed. Couldn't believe that Smith actually got some good shots in at the end. Horrible fight, though.
Tyson was definately one of the most entertaining fighters to watch. His look...his speed....his powerful knockout punch.....and his ability to defend himself Fighters like him made the sport great. Too bad he let himself to to pot.
kind reminds me of the tyson mitch green fight he never had a chance just kept on clinching i think at this point of iron mike's carreer his oponents were happy to go the distance
@MrIronval You're absolutely right! I remember back then and Tyson fights were so short in time, people expected him to knock his opponents out quick. So his opponents use to hold him and try to last, just to prove some sort of pathetic pride of lasting.
Tyson was like a Chicago bulls game with Jordan, you expected him to zoom past opponents, lol!
Mills Lane earned his money for Cus this match, first instruction "don't push off", but seriously Smith showed great ring generalship, a bit of head bounce, some movement, an iron chin, plus having your head together and being stronger than Tyson and you go the distance for 12 rounds, what would have happened for 15?
