i'm lost for words. this is my favourite cure song ever writen. i literally just got shivers from watching this video. and like other people have said this is better than the studio version. absolutly stunning
Robert's vocals are ever so more haunting in this version. Shame its quality wavers, this would've made an awesome hidden track on one of their singles!
i love the sound of this drumkit! it's the same on 17 seconds, faith and the hanging garden studio demo. but for pornography and the tour they used a different kit. can anyone help me ? what's the name of the drum kit in this video? as far as i know, it's a pearl kit. please, help me, if you are a drumming pro =) thx!
I tell you, Lol Tolhurst was a seriously underrated drummer. He had this simple, hypnotic style of drumming, very tribal. Reminiscient of Can's Jaki Liebezeit. It was a perfect fit for the band with Simon's simple, but memorable basslines and Robert's demented lyrics.
I am never going to get tired of this...even when I am a hundred years old living in my rest home I am going to be pumping the Cure through my stereo during my 11:00 a.m. sponge bath or tube feeding. These guys are timeless
Beautiful lyrics and songwriting. It seems like he just wrote whatever he felt, its all so scattered, but it is perfectly fitted together. God, the Cure is amazing.
You really can't get any better than this!!!! One of the most amazing songs both in lyrics and sound ever written. I can listen to it over and over again and have for 25 years. I wish I was 14 again and could relive the times I discovered tHe cURe !!! They have been my favorite band ever since. "I WILL NEVER BE CLEAN AGAIN !!!!"
Absolutely brilliant...one of the greatest songs ever. Sadly they didn´t play it in Barcelona...but it di´dn´t mind, it´s the best live I´ve ever seen...
I liked the Cure before they did 'pornography'. 'Faith' was almost equally as good. I thought 'my god' I hope they continue in this direction. Too bad Cure fans too bad right? 'Splintered in her head' was a temporary return but I think they peaked around this time.
ive got this vid and you can hear a good quality version of this on the pornography double set this was shot at pippbrook mill studios or something ive got some other demos from this studio...demise,temptation,figurehead,100 years, hanging garden and siamese twins i would really like to hear all the demos from this someday though
I remember the cure in general and this album especially hammered down by the press that time, the discussions that had being a fan and attending their concerts....thank you again for posting!
Looking at this again...This gives me back so fond memories of my youth, the smell of beer and weed, stepping through dark snow covered winter streets in my trenchcoat, on the way to the next cellar party.......
excelent song! wouldnt say it was my favorite..on this album i prefure strang day n pornography and one hundred yrs.. but still has incredible talent (drugs) involved. gotta love it
This has become one of my favorite songs, and I just recently got into the cure. I don't really understand the lyrics, but somehow they along with the melody really gets to me.
Its my favourite song. The beat is great and Robert voice is so pure. The three records in a row, The Cure, Pornography and Faith...the best periode of the Cure. There lyrics are great..just listen to pictures of you...fantastic!
The Pornography record is a quintessential darkwave masterpiece! Such an important album, IMHO. This clip is a fabulous reflection of the Cure's young and vibrant creativity of that era. One of my absolute favorite incarnations of the Cure before they started becoming more pop-oriented!
I find this album hard to get into, as a whole....its very basic, songs based over one militant drum beat. But this song sticks out as the best one, IMO. One hundred years and short term effect are good also.
dammm, what a great song, i got tattoed 14 years ago with the pornography cd put over and over until the artist finished, never forget it, this is still my favorite song....

My only comment on the synths is that they look Roland-ish. At first I thought something from the Jupiter series, but they arent big and fat enough to be Jupiters, so im not sure...
Superb. Anyone know the story behind this video? All I could find for Pippbrook Mill is that a book publisher runs out of there now. In the countryside, not too far from Crawley - where're they're from.
THIS is exactly the Cure sound that I miss!! I wish they'd simplify their sound and move on from the ridiculously LAYERED, OVERPRODUCED sound they seem to be comforted with for the past decade or so. Simon, Robert, and a drummer...that's all they need!!!! maybe a keyboardist.
Ah, this is great - "Pornography" is one of my favourite albums ever, and this is a great song from the album... Cool footage and a great version of the song, for shure! :) Thanks alot for uploading this!
Thank you a million times over for posting, Id buy you a round at the bar. This is my favorite band of all time and this is so rare it totally rules!!!!
Great that you posted this - this is my favorite Cure song, off my favorite Cure album. Actually its the first song I ever heard from The Cure when I was 13 and scarred me for life :) I'd love to see more early Cure footage.
I h ave to agree with you there......... it really is as though this was a private filming for the band's own use. Who knows?
There must be more to the performance though.... makes me think of what other tracks could have been filmed in what appears to be an attic of a studio ; )
the best period of Cure: Simon hates Robert, Robert hates Simon, Lol is hyponotic
