Tal rocks! I was blown away first hearing this album in '07. and continue to be with every listen. what an amazing beautiful talent. The world needs more musicians, and less computers.
Monster band with Carlock on the drums. Basicly Wayne Krantz Trio who are unreal.
Tai has a very long career ahead of her. Hope to catch her sometimes because I love her bassing. If you want to get blown away check out the Wayne krantz Trio on Yourtube or just Keith Carlock the drummer on this album. Holy shit is he sick.
most inspiring piece I've seen in a while keep up the amazing work !!! its music like this that should be on our radio's and not the the may I call them more entertainers than Musicians but still a real musician appreciates all walks of music but this music really should be appreciated more cause of the time and effort put into something amazing as this thanks for the inspiration
what's the time signature? I think it's like 2 meaures of 4/4, one of 7/4, then 2 of 4/4, one of 7/4, then a measure of 5/16... at least in the first part, then I think that repeats or something... or however you choose to divide that up... ? help me oot
i just realized that Tal is just three days older than I am, and she out outplay me in every way possible. except maybe tremolo picking. there is no hope for me as a musician.
@iskim86 read your comment and went to wiki to find out how old she is and you know what? she is 1 day older then me! bloody mysticism! thank god I am not a bassplayer=)
IF she sang, she'd easily have won a Grammy before Esperanza Spalding. They're both great bass players. The point I'm making is that Tal is definitely as good of an overall composer as Esperanza.
The way I feel this music.... Tal is definitely playing from that "Inner Space" that only great musicians know how to tap into. She is definitely one great bassist!
It seems her imagination in composition is tied perfectly to her ability to play it. Tal taps in and flows - she is remarkably mature in her taste while expressing with pure enthusiasm and joy what it is to make music and art. There is no hype here - Her gift is real so just enjoy it.
Jazz drummers, even average ones, are so much more musical than most rock drummers. Not saying Keith Carlock is average, I just had a general thought listening to this smokin' groove.
out of everything i have heard about this girl..that shes spossed to be the most amazing new bassist on the scene.this is it?..shes an good bassist but seriously. she isnt a bass god.
I love how she enjoys and supports what the other musicians are doing. I'm sure she makes everyone else play better. That's what a true musician will do for you.
Now THATS!! what I call music. This IS real musical talent, she has a gift and she uses it to make wonderfull, creative and intelligent music. There's nothing faked or fabricated here...She is AMAZING!!
Jeez girl, you are so melodic... along with everything else, chops, charm! I haven't heard new music that good in quite a while. Thanks for the inspiration!
I play bass since 10 years ago, n still studying music, its not the way how she plays or the technique....cuz I know lots of people that has been playing for even 40 years but cant solo like she does.........., its how u express urselve with the bass.....thats more than technique, thats connection..........u cant really understand when she solo, she speaks........and very nice, not just nice words....but nice sentences!
How can you start learning guitar at 14, switch to bass at 17, and be brilliant on it by 18? Would it be wrong to suggest that this girl is not only a natural but a genius?
To: Mr Yellingelk...Tal's talent is a matter of debate for anyone except the likes of you. Your response to me had to be removed because you lack the maturity to observe common decency. You should stick to the internet because your attitude will someday write a check that you can't cash in person.
I wonder if that is a short scale neck bass? SHe is very petite and the bass doesn't look that big. I play a short scale bass with a 30 inch neck and it looks about the same size compared to her.
I can't speak intelligently about the music, but her tone is nice. She is captivating to watch, with her dear face and the way she gets into the music.
I love the song, it sounds very beautiful... but it's so hard to figure out. Like that melody that keeps repeating before the improvisation. I'm trying to figure out the time signature... I'm sure the drummer starts out in 4/4 but the bass and sax are playing in different time. And the improvisation part... forget about it!!! Tal is a genius, and very beautiful!
At her age and with her talent and work ethic, she could be the greatest bassist ever. including Stanley Clarke and the King of Weather Report. She is young, impassioned and already has a perfect gig with a legendary guitarist who will share the stage. Jeff Beck already has a monumental legasy. But, his greatest gift might be bringing Tal into the mainstream consciousness.
I can definitely hear some Jaco in her phrasing. But she stands on her own, and her talent is undeniable! I'd love to hear her in a more traditional jazz-setting, perhaps a trio. I first became aware of her through her playing with Jeff Beck, and she impressed me with her maturity as a musician. I can't believe that she's only 23 years old. She sounds like she's been playing professionally for 30 years!
The only thing i can say is MERCY MERCY MERCY,,,,What a talent Tal has,, one of the Best Tal is just Amazing...one of the Greats,, what a gift..thank you .. dam1622...for the tune,,,LORD have MERCY,,,,just AMAZING...peace from the ..415...

@wusundowma naah... we have to learn to work together with beautiful people. It's not their fault to be beautiful or attractive, it would be unfair for them to have problems with their work because of that. Happily this world is becoming more used to it, specially in arts. I'm glad that such things are happening, the wake-up call is getting to young people. They're following their passion and not their nice faces to get somewhere in life. Good for her and for all of us!
I grew up listening to fusion from the In a Silent Way on up and this girl is really a natural groove rider. man, she sounds so comfortable shifting the gears of the band's rhythm and plays some very sweet, fluid solos, leading the melody at a very graceful pace and direction.

To the GreatLoumass.......some get the big breaks....many are fortunate do it for a living....and love it even though Joe from Wal-mart doesn't know their name...and yes many people have great chops and don't make it....and many carry that same attitude that you seem to have....I just saw the one comment but it reeks of misguided arrogance, jealousy and resntment....Tal rocks..
Some people get the breaks MOST PEOPLE DON'T. THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS of gift musicians who can play the hell out of their instruments at age 10, 12, 13...etc..... SOME STEP IN SHIT MOST DON'T. I was kicking ass when I was 13 years old, also. Shit, I grew up with a kick ass player who was singing like Robert Plant and playing guitar like Jimi Page. He was in the 7th grade (Age 11). THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF SUPER YOUNG musicians out there.
@dbt07 "Jaco". And she's good, amazing even, but she won't be revolutionizing music anytime soon, I don't think. She does sound kinda like Jaco, though.
lies. there are many great bass players out there that no one has ever heard of. The fact that she's a girl and that she's young and cute is the reason she's almost famous
'lies'?!!! you need to understand the difference between someone stating something they know is a falshood and expressing an opinion that can be argued on. I gave an opinion in a throw away comment to another person on here and you come back with 'lie'?! FU
She is a remarkably talented young woman. I saw her at the Fillmore last April with Beck and will see her again at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 19 when Clapton and Beck perform again.
Perhaps 909 ben or what ever you call yourself. But when was the last time people cared to watch you the same way they enjoy watching a young brilliant artist thrive like Tal... Hmmmmm....I thought covers were just a standard portion of everyones reporte'....dink.
I saw her and Jeff Beck together...I am a veteran of the Music scene...She is a great player..and I know Jeff used her as an attraction..still good..

I want to do terrible things to this girl, and take lessons from her, too! What a badass.

@dbt07 "Jaco". And she's good, amazing even, but she won't be revolutionizing music anytime soon, I don't think. She does sound kinda like Jaco, though.

I love this track, Tal is a wonderful up and coming bass player in jazz fusion.

> "Tal is a wonderful up and coming bass player"
I've heard people describe Tal as "up and coming" for about four years now. She's 24 years old, at what point will she have arrived?!!!! Lol

good point! if she was a 'he' she would already be in the 'guitar God' status! but a woman?..well, you know, she's getting there...LOL!

lies. there are many great bass players out there that no one has ever heard of.

FU

Agree...playing with the likes of Jeff Beck and Keith Carlock (one of Steely Dan's go-to drummers) I'd say SHE'S ARRIVED!

Hmmmmm....I thought covers were just a standard portion of everyones reporte'....dink.
redfox2blueleader 2 years ago
wow, who wrote this song? Who writes most of the stuff she plays?
such a treat.
ben909ben 2 years ago
