Very good lesson, finally I found the reason why i couldnt hit balls long and straight, I have a 22 hcp. After this lesson, I went to the course and hit my longest and straightest shots ever, Cheers mate.
I tried the wrist hinge method. It seems to work well with my wedges however, when I tried it with my 9 iron it had a tendency to hook left. Perhaps it's just a matter of timing?
Basically, the longer the shaft, the more the tendancy to force the shot from the shoulders. Hard to accept I know, because you don't realise you're doing it! You can flush a wedge, then hit a 3 wood with what ''feels'' like the same swing...different result! Keep doing the half swing drill and your shot pattern should gradually get tighter, its an ongoing thing. Stick with it and all the best.
Just tried the drills today on the range and it was amazing what happened to my iron shots! added a good 10 yards to each iron. the only thing is to stay patient and don´t get my right shoulder involved too much. otherwise I start pulling and hooking them ;) but when I keep the pattern it´s just pure and crisp ball striking. THANK YOU for keeping it that simple and explaining the hand-action and proper release. I play in the high 80´s and am sure to get to the low 80´s within the next weeks
Great lesson, helped me alot.
