  • LOOK AT THE SMILE ON THAT MAN'S FACE AT 3:38 ! LOL!! so awesome! beautiful song! I created a much less awesome all-bass version of this song about 3 or 4 years ago. It is on my page.

  • Wow! What a shame we lost this guy decades too early .... beautiful song ...one of the greats. Ain't Toots just the best at his craft!

  • They are on the same page the whole time...unbelievable. Improv at it's best!

  • God bless Mr. Jaco Pastorious. It is beautiful to see the love between Mr. Thielman and Jaco. I did not know Jaco was such a accomplished pianist. He could play any instrument, he still plays today somewhere.

  • Sublime. Simply breath-taking.

  • That section Jaco added towards the end is absolutely beautiful

  • I think this wasJaco's favorite song to play, all these clips he looks so into it and in live recordings.

  • This is the first time I've seen or heard Jaco play the piano. It's absolutely great.

  • this is my favorite Jaco song/ Weather Report song. Whats more amazing is my favorite bass player/dude Jaco Pastorius wrote this magnificent song. The only one he wrote for 'Night Passage' LP. It's so beautiful and these live performance add unique charms to the original. Toots is perfect with that emotional kazoo a.k.a harmonica. I love it. Thanks for sharing this rare riverting clip :D

  • “There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”

I love this performance with all of my heart.

  • @WTHFX One of God's prototypes... My God, does that sum it up perfectly. Definitely never intended for production - in fact, not even properly equipped for it, and lasting only as long as he did through sheer force of purpose. It behooves us to remember.

  • @WTHFX Isn't that fear and loathing in las vegas? Great quote for Jaco!

  • @ConCarneBlues Yup.

Dr. Gonzo ain't got nothing on Jack.

Toots is also beyond comparison. As Quincy Jones said: " Perhaps the greatest musician alive."

It was no accident that these two geniuses loved each other - like father and son.

  • wonderful. God, how nice.

  • Straordinario il pezzo e incredibile, visionaria e poetica la cadenza di jaco a 6:30 e oltre.

  • I love this clip, thanks for posting it. The bit Jaco plays from 6:30 to 6:50 is from a hard to find composition Three Women. I know of 2 recorded versions of this beautiful tune. One was done by the Spanish bassist Carles Benavent on the album "Fenix." The other was on the great keyboardist/arranger Gil Goldstien's album entitled "Under Rousseau's Moon."

  • love the funky dx7 in the background

  • absolutely bloody awesome! how has this only got 2169 views? you only need 3, obviously, in the end

  • I'm just Speechless... Great song!!

  • God this is gorgeous. It truly brings a tear to my eye. thanks toots and jaco and thank you mancmuso for posting this.

    Peace

  • from 8:20 to 7:00 is insane!!!
