Yo man, if you have EQ/COMP/FX on the dub track and you bounce it in place, you will get the EQ/COMP/FX bounced along with the vocalign. There's no way to just print the vocalign without the others unless you get rid of them... Just sayin'. You have to have a clear channel strip like you have on there, but I rarely ever have it like that.
Yeah, as much as this tutorial helps me in using the plug-in, what do I do afterwards?! I am runnig LogicPro 8... not 9. So, this "bounce in place" feature does not exist! If I'm only aligning chorus dubs, the other regions NOT touched in the SAME track won't play uness I bypass the plug-in. but when bypassed, obviously the region I DID align won't be. haha.
separate the sections you want to align onto another track. or you could cycle the part of the track you want to bounce, solo the track and bounce from file menu. then import the bounced audio onto a new track and align it to the area you cycled.
In Logic Pro 9, this tool really doesn't seem to shine because you can do more accurate alignment with the Flextool since Vocalign doesn't fix pitch which is the exact same thing ....for $500 less.
2. You said one thing that's different in Logic from Protools is that you can assign Vocalign to multiple tracks (?!?) all you did was to assign each track a new instance of the plugin which you can do in any DAW out there including Protools with any plugin actually.

Hey man,Good recording technique there.. So is this like a side chain compressor/ doubler/pitch correction plug in just for mastering vocals?..I believe this thing is 600 bucks..
So what does thing do besides pitch correction and side chain and what a good delay and chorus effect can't do? This thing is to expensive to replace some good stuff that I already have..I mean what is so good about it that deserves the price tag???
it's not pitch correction. it takes an 2 audio files and lines up the transients and automates the volume so they sound the same. it just makes double tracking easier, well worth the price tag if you do a lot of double tracking with people who cant double track.
That is a cool tool. For those without this plug in, don't worry. The same effect can be achieved by copying the region to a new track, slip it just a touch and pan them left and right. We have been doing this (stacking tracks) since the 70's. This tool really shows it's value when you have harmonies that are out of alignment.
Duplicating an audio track is not the best solution, maybe if the vocalist is shitty and you know that he can't do it that well again, but the cool part of dubbing a track is that the first take doesn't sound exactly the same as the second take.
It's like saying, record four bars of the verse, and copy paste 4x. Record four bars of the chorus, copy paste 2x...
I know how to use Vocalign in protools, but for some reason not in logic..... glad I found your video. I subscribed... thanks

would it be more or less affective to use flex mode and physically line up all the transient markers? because thats what i have been doing.

@BIGBLUNTBROWN dont have flex M on, and then line up the tracks and TMs.

Vocalign takes the money used of recording backing vocals and makes it sound like a simple pitch-shifted mix.... way 2 g0....

Could you do the same thing by creating a Groove Template with the master vox track and then Flex Time the vox dbl and apply the Groove Template?

i really need this.. though this seems like a difficult task. its sort of like melodyne but the sidechaining thing confuses me.
MichaelKhanTV 2 years ago
@MichaelKhanTV
sidechaining is like a copy of the signal that trigeers the effect, that's how i first understood it and now i use it all the time.
especially for vocoders.
