My screen currently has about a 1" strip that goes down the entire screen that shows shows distorted pixels, which leads me to believe it is a loose connection somewhere. Anyone else had this problem/ know a fix?
@scottydoe133 - Most likely the problem is the LCD. It's a common issue. If you're interested in having it repaired, you can give us a call at 1-866-726-3342, option 2.
GREAT VIDEO! I have loose hinges on my 15" MBP Unibody, early 2009 and I had doubts about how to remove the glass screen without breaking it ! I really, REALLY don't know why this video got dislikes .... They probably come from people who aren't skilled enough to perform this action without breaking something. My advice for them: "Go to an apple store and get it done ! "
@mart182003 Let me tell ya - it's super easy. They're separated as you can see in this video. I closed my macbook, not knowing a power chord was between the glass and the keyboard - and it cracked my glass screen.....
@letsmakesounds not for cosmetic reason -.- apple charges you for taking that glass off and making it anti glare... so i was wondering if you can make it antiglare by taking it out...
@macbookfix hey basically it wont fit, nd i cant send it back, do you know anything about a converter for the connector so i can use different model screen in my mac
I had to replace the glass on my macbook. It didn't come off nearly as nice -- I didn't have a heat gun so I used a hair drier till the edges were hot to the touch. The suction cup ended up breaking my screen further, and I had to break the glass very carefully in order to get the damaged screen off. I didn't put a mark on the screen, but the display is lit, but only displays white. Is there a way to fix this or do I need an new LCD? It worked prior to the glass removal.
I got it from Deal Extreme. Just google deal extreme and the site pops up, then search in the site for macbook. It's about $10 with free shipping.
This one isn't glass, it's plastic. Comes with two sided tape already applied, just peel and stick it on. From the looks of things, the plastic isn't quite as clear as the glass was, but the difference is slight. Other than that for the price it seems to be a good deal.
Respond to this video... Search google for deal extreme. Once you get their site, search for macbook, 15 inch is only $12. This one is made of plastic and isn't quite as clear as the original glass, but that difference is slight. For $12 it's a good deal.
I broke the glass of my macbook pro 15" unibody display =(
Can I still use the suction cup to remove the glass?
What are the risks?
There is a very little splinter just on the right of the isight, some cracks/fissures on the black edge and a crack that runs through the screen ( from the right of the isight to the middle of the left side of the display)
Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for the english mistakes ( I speak french) I hope my description is understandable.
@BrunoBaudewyns - You can still use a suction cup, but the process is more tedious as you'll have to remove the glass in sections ad be careful not to have it splinter in your hand.
Can you use the thin knife you used on other macbooks to remove screen bc i have a display problem somethings pinching a cable making the screen look distort..
@Vashed555 that is so they can charge more for the insurance i went into a shop and they wanted me to pay £250 to replace the glass i looked o ebay and i can get it for £20
Its a translucent polypropylene cover. for one, actual glass as a cover would be to heavy and too expensive. try taping on the cover of your Pro screen and the go tap on a glass window in your house. dont sound the same do they. thats because its a 2mm thick piece of plastic.
Powerbookmedic, did you even watch your own video? If that Panel were glass it would have broken while your "expert" struggled to remove it.
its the same plastic put over an ipod touch to protect the glass in the LCD.
actually, the glass they use is a flexible glass, so when force is exerted into the glass slowly, it can crack the LCD easily. So its more of a 50/50 chance of glass and LCD breaking and LCD only
Not as advance as the 2011 MacBook Air which actually features a unibody "display".

how does anyone break the glass screen on this, i dont see any way of breaking the glass screen without damaging the rest of the computer
mart182003 9 months ago
@mart182003 - The glass breaks pretty easily. It's easy to break the glass and not damage anything else.

@kingsalasi Yes it will work. The only difference is the Macbook is missing the "pro" logo. Email me if you have any questions.

When Apple does this repair, they don't even bother with the glass, they simply use an entirely new display assembly, including top lid and cover.

I can't believe they glued the LCD in like that. Such a bad idea to require pressure to be used on something so pressure sensitive.
